Manoj Sinha, Communications Minister yesterday told the BSNL Management and employees to perform well. He also spoke about ‘performance related pay’ and VRS for ‘inefficient employees’. Well advice!
Shall we remind the Minister that it was not because of non-performance of the employees that BSNL came down; It is the same employees who had made BSNL grow year after year, increasing profit to Rs.10,000 to Rs. 12,000 crore with a revenue of Rs.40,000 crore.
It was the Communications Minister and government who cut the procurement of equipment, taken the funds of BSNL on one pretext or other and made the PSU loss making. We appreciate the new Minister for making payment of the 2014-15 USO Fund of Rs.1250 crore to BSNL, but much more is to be done. Refund the charges for spectrum returned, waive licence fee and taxes of BSNL, recruit sufficient staff, procure adequate equipment, give sufficient training to staff etc. will make a great change. Is the government ready for the same?
Due to the sustained efforts of management and workers the market share has gone up to more than 10%, thousands of additional towers are erected, BSNL has become the maximum new mobile provider – yes BSNL is advancing. The Minister should help the BSNL to restore its past glory.

The massive dharnas yesterday (27th September) all over India by BSNL Casual and Contract workers should open the eyes of the management to the genuine problems of the workers and settle the same. The brutal exploitation of the low paid employees should be put an end to.
The BSNL Management should remember that it’s credibility and honour are at the lowest level as a result of this exploitation and corrupt practices by denying the due wages and social security measures to the casual contract workers engaged for BSNL.

The reduction of international oil prices has its repercussion in the salary of government employees in Saudi. The
government has issued orders reducing the salary by 20% including for Ministers. The main revenue for the country comes from oil.
This crisis will have its impact on the employment chances for Indians.

Under Modi government, the joblessness is increasing continuously. The unemployment rate has increased from the 7.7% to 8.7% in 2015-16 which means that more than 70 lakh youths have been added in the last year.
Public Sector units are disinvested or closed, retrenchment takes place, no new recruitment in govt services/ PSUs – this is the policy of the govt. While the govt. claims more investment in the country, the youths are wandering in the streets for a living. This is ‘Ache Din’.

With deep shock and grief, it is intimated that Com. Desraj Sharma, senior P and T union leader and former General Secretary, All India Postal Employees Union, Postmen and Class IV, passed away today 24th September at 09.00 PM. He was ailing and had undergone angioplasty operation twice recently, the last a few days back. Only a few days ago I along with other comrades had visited him. Com. Desraj had contacted me day before yesterday and told that he was better. But now this shocking news of his passing away! It is a great loss to the union movement. My heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and comrades!

As per the decision of its Delhi CEC meeting, the BSNL Casual and Contract Workers Federation has called upon the workers to organise Dharnas/Demonstrations on 27th September 2016 demanding the government and the BSNL Management to concede the demands made in the 10 Points Charter submitted to the government, BSNL Management etc. The demands include regularisation, payment of minimum wages, implement social security measures like EPF, ESI etc. pay bonus etc. BSNLCCWF demands retrenchment of workers in the name of union activities.
My request is to the BSNL Employees Union and other unions/associations to extend support and solidarity to the fully justified struggle of the brutally exploited workers.

According to the latest Forbes List of Super Rich Indians, Mukesh Ambani has kept his first position as the richest Indian. He has also increased his wealth from $ 18.9 billion to $ 18.9 billion In the list of richest Indians, next comes Dilip Shanghvi ($ 16.9 billion), Hinduja Brothers ( $15.2 billion), Azim Premji ($15 billion)and others.
While thousands of such rich persons have increased their wealth substantially, crores of poor people have become poorer and more people have become in the poor category. The government is boasting of increasing the wealth of the country. Of course it is true that the wealth of the country has increased, but most of it has gone to the coffers of the rich and powerful. The ordinary and poor people are the losers. Can this be called democracy of the people?
All the people have got a right to live in this country and the government has got a duty to ensure it. But the actions of the government are only to help the corporates and the rich. Strong protest and retaliatory action are required to change the policy of the government.
