May Day 2016

1st May, May Day, the International Day of Working Class, is here again. The May Day is being observed and celebrated through out the world by the workers and other toiling masses. The World federation of Trade unions and the Central trade Unions have given call to observe the day. The memory of the Chicago workers who were hanged for demanding and agitating for the 8 hours working day inspire the working class. It is through such struggles and strikes that the working class have been able to achieve many gains and victories.

May Day 2016 comes at a time when the working class is facing many challenges. The neo-liberal policies being implemented by the imperialist and capitalist class has created misery and heavy burden on the people. For maximising their profits, the corporates and financiers can go to any length, as we have seen. At the same time struggles are going on in many countries against these anti-people policies.

It is not different in India. The Central Trade Unions are unitedly fighting against the neo-liberal policies of the government. The workers rights are being attacked by the NDA government. The hard won gains of the working class are being snatched away. The struggle to defend the already achieved rights and for further improvement will continue.

The struggle to save BSNL has started and many things are to be done in this respect. We have to make BSNL stronger and give far better service to the people.

BSNLEU has to be strengthened and converted in to a militant organisation to fight and achieve the demands of the workers. The organisations of the Pensioners, viz. AIBDPA and that of casual-contract workers viz. BSNLCCWF, have to be strengthened and their issues focussed and exploitation ended.

Let us pledge to march forward with determination and dedication. Organise May Day and participate in the joint programmes being organised on the trade unions.

Unity for Struggle! Struggle for Unity !
Unity and Struggle for Progress !

Revolutionary Greetings on May Day!

May Day Greetings, WFTU

May Day

World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU)  on the occasion of the International Workers’ Day – May 1, 2016 expresses its militant greetings to all men and women of the working class and its 92 million members in over 120 countries.
Women and men, young and old, employed or unemployed, immigrants and refugees: the WFTU wish them the strength, determination and courage in their small and large struggles.
Transnational corporations, governments reactionary forces, neo-fascist and racist, imperialist structures dread this day. Because it is a symbol of internationalism, symbol of the struggle, a symbol of class unity. They are our indispensable in our struggles for a better life, stronger tools against poverty and wars generated by capitalist barbarity.
Building on the strong, classist, mass, democratic, militant grassroots unions, we give strength to the WFTU.
And strengthening of the WFTU as class organization with roots at the base, internationalist and solidarity, we are strengthening our unions.
In all countries of the world with all kinds of actions, we demand the satisfaction of current needs, our employment, labor and social rights.
Our reality of poverty, unemployment, poverty and war, in contrast to the technological and scientific progress and wealth we produce, show how unrealistic rotten is the model of capitalist production.
We join forces and build our social alliance with the popular sectors against exploitation and capitalist barbarism.
On the occasion of the first of May 2016, we reiterate our internationalist solidarity with the people of Palestine, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and all peoples who suffer imperialist attacks and fighting for their right to decide for themselves on their present and future.
This year, 2016, the representatives XVII World Congress of Trade Unions will add class trade union movement, in the heroic land of South Africa. October 5 to 8, 2016, thousands of delegates, trade unionists real fighters from all continents will gather in Durban, they analyze the global and regional situation and resolve on the strategy and the WFTU Action Plan for next 5 years.
With this Congress, we take an essential step for the world-class labor movement. “Go ahead” for meeting the current needs of the working class, poverty and unemployment caused by capitalist barbarity.

French workers, increase of working hours, strike

Nationwide strikes are being organised in France against the government’s move to increase the working hours from 35 hours upwards, and damaging the hard won worker protections. Flights, Railways, other transport services etc. are badly affected. The unions demanded that the bill moved in the Parliament in this connection should be withdrawn.

We express our solidarity and support to the strike and demand the French government to withdraw the bill which attacks the rights of the workers.

Greece, Protest against pension reforms

Greece Protest against Pension reformsMassive Protest against pension reforms that are part of Greece’s third international bailout.

AFP

Athens, Feb 4 : Greece was hit today by a general strike against an unpopular pension overhaul that has rallied workers against the embattled government of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

The 24-hour labour action has deprived the country of train and ferry services and will sideline dozens of flights.

Hospitals will operate on emergency footing, gas stations will remain closed and taxis have been pulled off the streets.

Lawyers and farmers are also participating in the walkout. The general strike, the third in as many months, is directed against government plans to lower the maximum pension to 2,300 euros (USD 2,500) a month from 2,700 euros currently and introduce a new minimum guaranteed basic pension of 384 euros.

The leftist administration of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras also wants to merge pension funds and increase social security contributions by both employers and staff.

The plan has been criticised by a wide array of professional classes, from lawyers and engineers to sailors and farmers.

The farmers have formed protest hubs at dozens of locations on Greece’s national highways, intermittently blocking traffic with tractors over the past two weeks.

On Tuesday the farmers blocked passage of freight trucks into Bulgaria and Turkey, causing long lines on the respective borders.

Greece must save 1.8 billion euros from state spending on pensions under a three-year bailout signed with the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund in July.

The Tsipras government has warned that the nation’s  pension system will soon collapse without the reform, which is expected to be put before parliament for a vote later this month.
