WikiLeaks exposes UPA succumbing to USA pressure

wikileaks India politics

The Left Parties have been continuously exposing the policies of the UPA Government which was more and more tuned to the requirement of the US as also was being pressurised by it. Now, the secret cables of US diplomats released by WikiLeaks ( published in Hindu on 15th and 16th March), establish the charges.Even in appointment of Cabinet Ministers, the pressure of the US had its effect.

Hindu is publishing many of these cable news in its columns. The M.P.s have already raised these issues in the Parliament. The UPA government which is already under siege in the huge scams, are again the target by the opposition for the former’s succumbing to US pressure even in internal matters.

This is indeed very serious. Where is the Independent Foreign Policy enunciated by the first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru and what is the policy under Dr.Manmohan Singh, present Prime Minister?

Kerala Model – Great achievements by LDF

This is the election time for Kerala along with W.Bengal, T.Nadu, Assam and Puducherry. Kerala has a special tradition of electing CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Congress led UDF alternatively. But it seems that this time it is going to be changed. The indications are there that the LDF may be elected again braking the tradition. Why?

The great achievements of the last five years of LDF rule itself is the main basis for the above presumption. Kerala is acknowledged as one of the best ruled state in the country. Let us see what are the achievements of the LDF?

Improvement of agriculture sector: Increased support price for paddy from Rs.7 to Rs.14 per kg resulting in increase of cultivation area by 60,000 acres and production by about 1.25 lakh tonnes. Production of eggs, vegetables, milk, fish and meat also increased.

LDF government increased budget allotments for traditional industries like coir, cashew, hand-loom, bamboos etc. which resulted in increased production and also better wages.

During UDF rule almost all state PSUs were in big losses. UDF government closed some of them and were proposing to close others to the benefit the private business, just like the Central Government. During the UDF rule out of 44 PSUs only 12 were profitable. The total loss in 2005-2006, last year of UDF, was Rs.69.64 crore. After 4 years of LDF rule 32 PSUs out of 37 ( some PSUs were merged together) became profitable. The total turn over of the PSUs increased to Rs. 2190.73 crore and the loss of Rs.69.64 crore during UDF period was changed to profit of Rs 239.75 crore in 2009-2010. In 2011-2012, Kerala will have the record of ‘no loss making PSU’.

In the previous 2 years period under the EMS Housing Project 8.5 lakh houses were provided to those having no house. It is proposed to provide more houses under this project.

SC/ST and minorities have been given top priority and special assistance in various ways. One acre land will be provided to landless tribal families. LDF has provided better social justice.

During UDF rule hundreds of farmers committed suicide due to debt and failure of crops. After LDF came in to power, special assistance were given to the farmers. debts were written off and the farmers suicide became a matter of the past.

IT parks have started which will give thousands of jobs to the unemployed.

Kerala is given award by the Central Government for Best Law and Order situation under the LDF rule.

Best literate state.

26 awards received in the tourism sector.

One of the best health system in the country under the LDF rule.

Many other achievements have been made during the LDF rule.

As such the LDF facing the coming elections on 13th April 2011 with confidence. I feel that the people of Kerala will change the alternate LDF -UDF rule and elect the LDF this time also for a better governance and benefits to the people.

SC – Probe Hasan Ali’s terror link

Why is it always necessary for the government to get directions from the Supreme Court to take action against the big shots like A.Raja, Hasan Ali, bosses of private telecom companies etc. in scam, corruption and black money charges. If there was no prodding by the apex court, it is very doubtful whether the government will take any action at all.

Now Hasan Ali Khan has been taken in to custody by Enforcement Directorate for one day. Whether it is going to be a cover up or a genuine enquiry. Let us see how it develops. But it is perfectly sure that big sharks in politics, business and shady deals will try to save him, because if he spells there, will be much damage for many.

Hasan Ali Khan questioned at last on Tax evasion and black money

It seems that the Central Govenment will act against scams, black-money, tax-evasion etc. only after pressure from the Supreme Court or after huge protest by the people and political parties. This is good in the case of Hasan Ali Khan also who is one of the big shots in real estate business, black-money, race-horse business and who has stashed thousands of crores of money in foreign banks. The Income Tax Department had levied a tax of Rs.70,000 crore on him but nothing happened.

It is only after the Supreme Court has chastised the government for its inaction and gave a deadline of 8th March, that the Enforcement Directorate has moved and taken Hasan Ali in to custody. By this few weeks before taking in to custody must have been used by the big shot to hide and cover up every trail.

At least some action is taken. Better late than never! What will the result is yet to be known.

Allow access to telecom services – Home Ministry

08 Tuesday Mar 2011

The Ministry of Home Affairs have asked DOT to ensure that all telecom services by the telecom companies are made accessible to the Government on security concerns.

The issue first started with Blackberry services which is provided by the Research in Motion (RIM), a company based in Canada. Despite continuous directions, RIM had not given the Government of India access to Enterprise Server (BES), although after much efforts it gave access in the case of Blackberry Messenger Services (BMS) and Blackberry Internet Services (BIS). The government gave many warnings and ultimate dates, but the company did not implement the directions.

It is in this context that Ministry of Home Affairs have now asked the DOT to issue notices to all telecom companies to provide access to government for all telecom services by March 2001.

Even if this last date is not complied with by the telecom companies, their licenses should be cancelled and huge penalty imposed on them. But it is doubtful, because the Government would not like to antagonise the big business and MNCs;

2G scam

CPI(M) has reiterated its demand for cancellation of the licences of those private telcos who got the spectrum through the first come first served formula and recover the losses.

Com. Prakash Karat, General Secretary, CPI (M) in a statement said:” It is not enough to arrest a few persons. The Government should cancel these licences and auction the spectrum so that the revenue lost can be recovered.”

CPI(M) was the first to point out to this biggest scam in the country in 2008 itself. Its continuous exposal and also of the other opposition parties had compelled the Government to dismiss Communications Minister A.Raja and appointment of JPC to inquire in the matter.

14th April, Birthday of Ambedkar, should be declared as a Govt. Holiday

14 April, Ambedkar, govt holiday

14th April is the Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.Ambedkar, the architect of of the Indian Constitution.

After his death, Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal stated in Lok Sabha: ” Dr. Ambedkar will be remembered mostly as the symbol of revolt against all the oppressing features of Hindu society… He revolted against something, which everybody should revolt against..”. President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan stated: “… Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, proved, with his intellect and wisdom, that sages can take birth in any caste.” Dr. Zakir Husain said: ” He is the Bhishma among the wise; among the contemporaries few could equal him; a great person indeed.” Justice V.R.Krishna Iyer said: ” Ambedkar is a versatile genius – a ruthless rebel, a legal luminary, a profound scholar, a self-respecting person with an independent line of thinking.” Indeed Dr. Ambedkar was a great man in all ways.

It is only appropriate and justified that the birthday of this great man, 14th April, should be declared as a National Holiday. Government should declare it as such.

Kerala – Election situation improves for LDF

election 2011, Kerala, LDF

While the state assembly election dates in Kerala are yet to be announced, the situation for Left Democratic Front (LDF) is improving day by day. Though the CPI(M) lost heavily in the Parliament elections, it has almost restored its strength to the earlier position. The state organisation is systematically working for a good victory.

Another factor is the difference between the alliances on the sharing of seats in the opposition camp, United Democratic Front (UDF). There exist differences amongst all partners as also within the Congress party itself. However, this may be sorted out in the last moment as usual.

The main issue is the image loss for the Congress, UDF and UPA at Central level. The image of the Prime Minister himself is in question in connection with the Supreme Court struck down appointment of CVC. The other scams including 2G, Adarsh, CWG etc. are all pointing to the highest in the Congress Party and those supporting it.

The jail sentence against former minister Balakrishna Pillai is another image loss for UDF in Kerala. Cases against other former minister are also surfacing.

The last five years LDF rule and implementation of people oriented programmes has increased the prestige and image of the Left Government, despite opposition charges to the contrary.

In such a situation, the LDF has the upper hand. There is every chance that LDF may win if it continues its work in an effective way with complete unity.

Rs.250 crore marriage by Congress Leaders !

05 Saturday Mar 2011

The businessmen and certain politicians are having so much money, black or white, that they can spend crore of rupees lavishly. The latest is the marriage of the son of a congress leader with the daughter of another congress leader in which it is estimated that more than Rs. 250 crore has been spent. The bridegroom was also gifted with a five seater helicopter.

This is in Delhi only, where the top leaders of congress, who preaches about austerity and simple life, have their head quarters. The marriage celebrations continues for days together. In the Reception to be held shortly, it is reported that Prime Minister, Sonia Gandhi and superstars will participate.

This is the new culture of the LPG policy. No doubt blackmoney, corruption, violation of rules, favouritism and all vices have grabbed the country. Can’t we try to clean it of all these vices ?

CVC issue – PM will make statement in Parliament

Central Vigilance Commissioner, PJ Thomas

After the Supreme court decision to sack P.J.Thomas from the post of Central Vigilance Commissioner(CVC), the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated that he accepts the verdict of the Supreme Court. He also accepted responsibility for the selection and asssured that he will make a statement in the Parliament on the issue.

Is it sufficient to make a statement in the Parliament every time some wrongs are done? Or is it not necessary to take remedial action that is required?
