Srinagar Election – Voting only 7.14%

It is reported in the press that only 7.14% voted in the Srinagar Lok Sabha bye-election, which means that more than 90% did not cast their democratic right. This is unprecedented. It is an indication of the grave situation in the Kashmir valley. Instead of of a military or para-military solution, a political settlement is required with discussion with all stake holders.

“The youth need education, good health and jobs…not cow protection committees, anti-Romeo squads or issues on which they can be emotionally distracted from the main purpose of building a better India” – Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary, CPI(M)

Exactly!

Oppose and defeat attacks on the secular fabric of the nation

Intolerance, secular fabric

The victory in UP elections have made BJP and Sangh Parivar inebriated. One after another, their leaders are spewing venom breaking the secular fabric of the country. See two statements issued by RSS and BJP leaders today:

“Cow slaughter should be banned in the country” – Mohan Bhagvat, RSS Chief

“Those who oppose building Ram Mandir should be beheaded” – UP BJP MLA

These are not isolated cases. Such statements and also attack on the minorities and dalits are reported daily. This is a dangerous situation. Massive campaign is required to save the country from such intolerance and save the secular status of the nation.

Casteless Society instead of Cashless Society

cashless, casteless

Modi Government at the centre is aggressively campaigning and compelling the people to shift to a cashless system, ignoring the severe hardship of the people. Instead it should focus on a caste less society, which will remove a long standing injustice to a big section of the people and bring harmony and peace. The caste system, the most oppressive and inhuman system needs to be abolished for ever. Of course, an end to the age old system is not easy and require determination and support from the people.

Female Labour % abysmally low in India; only 27%

FLFP, ILO, jobs, Women

International Labour Organisation (ILO) has ranked India at 121 out of 131 countries in Female Labour Force Participation (FLFP) with an abysmal 27%, which means out of 100 jobs, only 27 jobs are with women. Nepal has got FLFP of 79.9%, China 63.9%, Bangladesh 57.4%, 56.3% in US, 50.8% in European countries and 35.1% in Sri Lanka. The few countries which are below India include Pakistan 24.6% and Arab countries 23.3%.
The jobless women in India are mainly in rural area. It is also reported that the FLFP is continuously reducing in India. In the Central government, as reported in this blog yesterday, the ratio between men and women workers were 9.15 : 1. Lack of education among women in backward rural areas is one reason.

The continued governments at the centre have not paid any serious attention to this matter. Government of India and State governments have to seriously tackle the issue.

CG employees, Women

out of a total number of 30.87 lakh employees in the central services, only 3.37 lakhs are women. The ratio works out to an abysmal 1: 9.15. The information was given in Parliament by Jitendra Singh MoS in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. Copy of the same is given below. The government should provide special reservation for women in jobs to increase the ratio and give justice to women.

Intolerance has no limit – danger to the secular fabric of the nation

India, Intolerance

After the Modi government has assumed power, the intolerance of the Sangh Parivar has crossed all limits. The declared  threat to the life of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan by them is but one example.

Black Africans, South Indians, cattle purchasers, love couples, rationalists, minorities, dalits, women – all are victims of this brutal intolerance. The list is sure to increase every day.

Fascist Mussolini and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler are two rulers who took intolerance to unlimited level. Is the same thing happening in present India?

Can this intolerance can be tolerated by people of the Secular Democratic Republic of India.

Dr. Ambedkar Jayanthi, Holiday

The Central Government has issued orders declaring Holiday for CG Employees on 14th April 2017 for Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Jayanthi. This is applicable to the central PSUs also.

But it is not understood why the government is not issuing the orders for Ambedkar jayanthi along with the declaration of annual holidays every year and instead keeping the orders for the last moment?

60 years after first EMS Government

04 Tuesday Apr 2017

1957, first EMS Ministry.

60 years have passed after the formation of Kerala State. The first Kerala ministry under Com. EMS Namboodiripad was formed on 5th April 1957. It was also the first Communist ministry in the country. The news had its impact in the whole world.

Com.EMS can be proud that the idea of Aikya Kerala, in the formation of which he had taken initiative, has been fulfilled and he had been the its first Chief Minister. But that was not the only achievement.

The major achievement of the ministry was the progressive land reforms, which saw real land reforms. In the Congress ruled states also there were land reforms, but it was only partly implemented and chances were given to the landlords to somehow keep their large areas of land. Another achievement of the reforms was in the education including payment of salary to the teachers, who were being exploited by the greedy managers.

There are many such achievements to the credit of the EMS Ministry. Congress and communal forces were afraid that if the ministry is allowed to complete its five year term, it will be impossible for them to defeat the Communists in future. Hence the ‘Vimochana Samaram'(‘Liberation Struggle’) under the gang up of Congress, religious institutions and even with imperialist forces. Before completion of five years term, EMS Ministry was dismissed by the President on the advice of the Pandit Jawharlal Nehru government.

Sixty years are over after the formation of the first EMS Ministry. Looking back and also looking  in to the present situation, it can be firmly stated that the impact of the first EMS Ministry is still there. LDF and UDF governments have been in power alternately for many years. The difference is well known to the people. It is only with the help of the communal parties that UDF is able to win. As a single political party CPI(M) is far ahead of any other party.

The present LDF government under Pinarayi Vijayan is continuing the pro-people policies to make the state towards further progress. Let us get inspiration from the first Communist Government for further progress.

Is it a coincidence that the first EMS Ministry was formed in the centenary year of the “First Indian War of Independence  1857”? In fact, the first shot against the British officer by Sepoy Mangal Pandey was fired on 29th March 1857, almost exactly  one century back.

Liquor and Gold – Kerala’s weakness

Gold, Kerala, Liquor

Kerala is far ahead of other states in many respects, including literacy, electrification, labour wages, work culture, own home, secular concept etc. etc. These are all welcome and are appreciated world over.

But there are two other issues, in which also, Kerala seems to be in the forefront –  craze for gold and liquor.  This craze needs to be controlled in a progressive state  like Kerala.
