NEW DELHI: State-tun telecom company BSNL is investing an over Rs 11,000 crore to improve its all-round services including strengthening network, modernizing telephone exchanges and installing mobile towers in the Naxal-dominated areas, Parliament was informed today.

“BSNL and MTNL are taking several steps to enhance revenues through investments to strengthen its network and focus on consumer care and service delivery to improve quality of service,” telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Both companies have drastically lost their subscriber base mainly due to inadequate investment that led to network coverage issues, inability to compete with private sector telecom firms with regard to marketing and customer satisfaction, he said. Courtesy: (TOI)

Delhi AAP government has started  implementing its poll promises. Yesterday it issued orders reducing  electricity  charges by 50% to those using less than 400 units and free water to those who uses below 20,000 litres of water in a month.

It is estimated that the electricity subsidy will come to about Rs.1,427 crore per year and free water Rs. 250 crore.

Good that AAP has started implementing its assurances to the people.

Continuing adopting anti-worker bills by the state governments ruled by BJP, the Gujarat Government yesterday, 25th February 2015, passed a bill banning strike for one year and then extending to two more years.

Along with banning of strike, the act also reduces the period for raising industrial disputes from three years to one year.

We express our strong protest and demand that the anti-worker act be scrapped.

Govind Pansare

The Let Parties have issued the following statement:

We strongly condemn the murderous attacks on veteran Communist leader Com. Govind Pansare and his wife Uma Pansare in Kolhapur, Maharashtra on 16th February 2015.  Com. Govind Pansare finally succumbed to the grave injuries and died on 20th February 2015 at Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Com. Pansare was a prominent communist theoretician and fighter who always led people’s struggles for the exploited and socially oppressed people from the frontline. The killing of Com. Pansare reminds one and all of the killing of Dr Narendra Dabaholkar in 2013 in Pune.  Despite widespread condemnation, the Maharashtra government failed to arrest so far the killers, suspected to be communal and reactionary elements. It shows utter inaction of the state government.

The lethal attack on Comrades Govind Pansare and Uma Pansare reflects the growing intolerance of the divisive communal forces against freedom of expression. We appeal to all left and democratic forces to rise against such onslaughts and defeat such inhuman and anti-democratic moves.

We urge the government of Maharashtra to take effective action and arrest the criminals who carried out such a dastardly attack on a senior communist leader. We call upon our respective party units to organise protests all over the country.

Govind Pansare, murder

Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Govind Pansare Killing Condemned

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its deep grief at the death of Comrade Govind Pansare, CPI leader and prominent Marxist intellectual. Com. Pansare was shot in a dastardly manner along with his wife Uma, by two assassins on 16th February in Kolhapur.

The killing of Com. Pansare followed the same modus operandi as that of Dr. Narendra Dabholkar in August 2013 in Pune. Extremist communal elements are suspected to be behind both these murders.

So far no one has been arrested for either of these killings. The CPI(M) demands that the Maharashtragovernment and police take speedy and effective action to apprehend the culprits and those behind this heinous plot.

The CPI(M) conveys its heartfelt condolences to Com. Uma, the wife of Com. Pansare and all his family members.

Highly Important Govt. Documents Stolen and Leaked – Corporates involved – Will any serious action be taken?

corruption

It is official now. Espionage in Central Ministries!

There has been continuous suspicion that important documents were being leaked out and handed over to the Corporates, especially in coal, petrol, gas, telecom etc., in which sectors lakhs of crores of rupees are involved. Now this has been proved and the culprits are caught red-handed.  12 people including some low paid government officials and senior executives of corporate houses have been arrested.

The senior executives of Reliance Industries Ltd., Essar Group, Cairn India, Jubilant Energy and Anil Dhiru Ambani Group include those arrested.

It is also reported that the leaked documents include even a letter written addressed to the Prime Minister by his Private Secretary.

Now that the big corporates are involved, despite assurance by the government that they will take strict action against the culprits, the case may be delayed or side-tracked, as were being done earlier.

This should not happen.

32.4 crore senior citizens by 2050 – Help Age India report.

Elderly people, Help Age india

The senior citizens, those who are above 60, are fast increasing in India. At present they constitute 8 % of the population, which comes to about 9.6 crore, but which may increase to about 32.4 crore by 2050, according to the report of the Help Age India, an organisation dealing with the old age people. Out of these, about 4.8 crore will be those above 80 years of age.

The aged in India are mostly ignored. Government servants and those employed in PSUs etc. get statutory  pension, but that also is stopped for those recruited after 01-01-2004. The pension being paid through PF scheme is mostly below Rs.1,000, which now government has ordered to have a minimum of Rs. 1,000. Though some state governments like Kerala has fixed an old age pension, though nominal, for all those above 60, most of the state do not have even  such a universal pension. The Help Age India has demanded that at least Rs.2,000 should be paid as minimum pension.

The elderly people require sufficient health care, which also is, completely lacking in India. Take for example the old widows of Brindavan, who are left with nothing except alms. They are living in pathetic conditions. Crores of old people live or exist in that way.

The government has to look in to the matter and ensure that the elderly people are cared and their misery is removed.

Swiss Bank Accounts are being searched by Swiss Government, A Reuters report in this connection is given below:

Geneva’s public prosecutor searched the premises of HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBA.L) in Geneva on Wednesday and said it had opened a criminal inquiry into allegations of aggravated money laundering.

“A search is currently underway in the premises of the bank, led by Attorney General Olivier Jornot and the prosecutor Yves Bertossa,” Geneva’s prosecutor said in a statement.

HSBC, Europe’s biggest bank, apologised to customers and investors on Sunday for past practices at its Swiss private bank following allegations that it helped hundreds of clients dodge taxes.

The prosecutor said its investigation was into HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) and could extend to individuals.   (Reuters)

arrest, Teesta Setalvad

New Delhi, February 12: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) condemns the Gujarat Police move to arrest Teesta Setalvad and her husband, Javed Anand in Mumbai. The arrest of Teesta Setalvad has been stayed for 24 hours at the intervention of the Supreme Court.

The Gujarat Police have targeted Teesta Setalvad because of her relentless championing of the rights of the victims of the Gujarat pogroms of 2002. While the Gujarat government is pursuing the harassment of Teesta Setalvad, it has been reinstating police officials who are facing serious criminal charges.

The CPI(M) demands that the Gujarat government withdraw the concocted case against Teesta Setalvad and stop harassing her.

AAP win, Delhi

According to the results announced / leading till now, the Aam Admi Party (AAP) is expected to get about 67 seats out of a total of 70 seats. It is a big victory for AAP. As AAP says, it is a victory for the people of Delhi.

Hearty Congratulations for Arvind Kejrival and the AAP leaders and workers. Their sincere work for the last many months has been rewarded.

BJP and Congress have been decimated. BJP is expected to get 3 seats, while Congress will have none.

Let us hope for a corruption free and pro-people rule in Delhi. There will be innumerable obstructions and the APP has to find ways to surmount these and give a pro-people rule.
