Today 2nd October 2020 marks the 152 years of the opening of the Calcutta General Post Office, the first GPO in the country. The construction of the GPO was started in 1864 and was opened on 2nd October 1868. It is a beautiful heritage building and I have visited the same more than once. There is a Postal Museum inside the GPO. Nearby, there is another building which accommodates the RMS Office, which probably is of the same time or earlier. A little distance away is the first telephone exchange, which also I visited. Calcutta is a city where there are many heritage buildings and monuments.
