It was on 1st October 2000 that BSNL was formed corporatising the service portion of the Department of Telecom. 20 years are over on this 1st October. The workers under the banner of the AUAB were compelled to observe the day as Black Day wearing black badges and observing hunger strike due to the unsympathetic and discriminating attitude to the PSU by the government as well as the top management.

BSNL is in the most difficult situation. 4G Spectrum is not rolled out so far. Revenue is dwindling. Govt is giving all support to Reliance Jio only and discriminating BSNL. Employees are not receiving their salary in time. Contract workers have not been paid wages for months. Pay Revision and Pension Revision due from 01-01-2017 has not been done. Pensioners are not getting medical reimbursements as also medical allowance. The claim of the management and govt that once VRS for 80,000 employees are implemented the finance situation will improve has not happened.

What exactly is the problem? The management, the unions and associations have to seriously discuss the issue and plan for improvement and strengthening the organisation. They are fully capable of that. What are the strengths, what are the weaknesses, how they can be overcome – all these need to be assessed and future planned.

The well wishers and public wants BSNL to climb to its past glory as a PSU and provide better services to the customers. It is reported that decision has been taken to observe ” Customer Delight Month /Year”. It can not be a ritual, but a well planned operation which will improve the situation.

SAVE BSNL – SAVE INDIA.
