AIBDPA Kerala Circle published the book on “The Historic Strike of 19th September 1968” (in Malayalam ) authored by Coms. V.A.N.Namboodiri and P.V.Chandrasekharan on this 19th September, the 50th anniversary of the strike. The book was well received and many comrades conveyed their appreciation.

Some comrades also contacted and has given some additional information regarding the events taken place in their places along with the names of leading comrades, who were suspended, terminated etc. In fact, we wanted to publish the names of all the terminated and suspended comrades in Kerala, but could not get the information.

All these can be included in the next edition of the book, in case such an edition is published. However, the records may be updated and kept with all these information as a document and supplied to the Circle / District leaders. For that purpose, the details are required.

I would request all comrades, including office-bearers at all levels, to furnish such information to us so that the records can be updated. The information may kindly be sent to: V.A.N.Namboodiri, S-8, Alhind Elite Apartments, Nadakkave Post, Kozhikode – 673011.

CEC BSNLEU calls for Struggle

Non-implementation of the assurances of the Hon’ble MoS(C) – CEC meeting of BSNLEU calls upon the employees to get prepared for strike action, including an indefinite strike.
Non-implementation of the assurances of the Hon’ble MoS(C), on wage revision, allotment of 4G spectrum, pension revision and payment of pension contribution on actual basic pay, was seriously discussed in the CEC meeting of BSNLEU, held at Ghaziabad on 22nd & 23rd October, 2018. Since Parliament elections are approaching fast, time left with us for the settlement of wage revision, is running out. In view of this the CEC meeting has called upon the BSNL employees to massively organise the agitational programme called on by the AUAB, and also prepare the employees for strike action, including an indefinite strike. China Builds the longest sea bridge in the world – India builds the biggest statue for the same amount.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday officially opened the world’s longest sea bridge linking Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China, significantly cutting the travel time from between the three territories from three hours to just 30 minutes.

The 55-km-long crossing that cost a whopping USD 20 billion is dubbed as an engineering feat carrying economic and political significance at a time when Beijing is seen tightening its grip over its semi-autonomous territories.

It connects Asia’s financial hub, Hong Kong, with the southern mainland city of Zhuhai and the gambling enclave of Macau, across the waters of the Pearl River Estuary with a snaking road bridge and underwater tunnel.

It took nine years to complete the bridge due to delays, budget overruns, corruption prosecutions and the deaths of construction workers.

President Xi inaugurated the bridge at a special ceremony held in Zhuhai, in southern China’s Guangdong Province, attended by about 700 guests, including the leaders of Hong Kong and Macau.
(Press report)

China builds the biggest bridge and India builds the highest statue almost for the same expenditure!

Top CBI officers removed from posts – Opposition alleges foul play

CBI Corruption Director

We had earlier posted the news that CBI Director Alok Verma starting proceedings against CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana on corruption charges. Now, in the midnight of yesterday the Prime Minister held an urgent meeting and removed Director Alok Verma from the post and posted Nageswar Rao as the new Director. Asthana has been asked to go on leave. The new Director had taken charge in the night itself and transferred the officer to Andaman and Nicobar Islands who was asked to enquire in to the corruption case of Asthana!

Modi Government is being severely criticised by opposition parties stating that these steps are taken to save Rakesh Asthana from the corruption charges. Asthana is an officer of the Gujarat cadre and is very close to Modi and BJP President Amit Shah.

Alok Verma has already approached the Supreme Court against his removal.

BSNLEU CEC

The CEC meeting of BSNLEU held at Ghaziabad on 22nd and 23rd October 2018 has called upon the BSNL workers to join the strike on 8-9 January 2018, called by the central trade unions against the anti-worker, anti-people, pro-corporate policies and actions of the government and raising the demands of the workers, kisans and the common people.

Let us hope that other unions/associations in BSNL will also take similar decisions, if not already taken.

Central Executive Committee of BSNLEU at Ghaziabad

22 Monday Oct 2018

The Central Executive Committee meeting of BSNL Employees Union is being held today and tomorrow at Ghaziabad, (UP West). It will discuss about the wage revision, Pension Revision and other important issues and take suitable decisions. The conduct of the All India Conference scheduled to be held in Mysore in December may also come up for discussion.

Perhaps this may be the first CEC meeting of BSNLEU since its formation in 2001, that I am not participating. CEC meetings were not only for discussion and decisions, but it is a forum where you can meet senior comrades and old friends and renew the friendship. It givers energy to all the participants.

Time passes away quickly. It was on 2nd September 1958 that I entered the P and T Department and 60 long years have passed. I have become a member of the then union immediately after joining the Dept. and have been in the active field for the last 60 years or so.

Our comrades fought for the correct policy in the union and we could succeed. The revisionist leadership was defeated in 1991 Bhopal Conference; but the next ten years were a long internal fight in which we could succeed. The BSNL was formed in October 2000 and BSNLEU was formed on 22 March 2001.

I am proud to have been elected as the Founder General Secretary of BSNLEU in the foundation conference held at Visakhapatnam and continued in that post till 2010 after which continued as All India President till 2014. It was the sole recognised union for years. My request to relieve from the post was kindly accepted by the house, but the AIC elected me as Patron, which was not a constitutional post. I was relieved from that post also in 2017. Though not an office-bearer, the close bond continues with BSNLEU. That will never be broken.

My Hearty Congratulations and Greetings to all the members of the CEC! Let the CEC take important decisions for the forward march of the union and the workers!

CBI, corruption

CBI in the government agency which enquires in to corruption cases etc. Now its own Special Director, Rakesh Asthana has been charged with corruption as an accused for allegedly demanding and taking bribe from a businessman who was being investigated in the Moin Qureshi corruption case by a special investigation team led by Rakesh Asthana.

It is to be noted that the accused is very closed connected with the Prime Minister as per paper reports.

Staff in BSNL reduced from 3.5 lakhs in 2000 to 1.74 lakhs in 2018

19 Friday Oct 2018

Due to non-recruitment of required staff and non-filling up of vacancies, the staff strength has ben reduced from 3.5 lakhs in 2000 to 1,74,216 in 2018. More than 2 lakh employees have retired during this period, but only about 40,000 have been recruited. The recruitment has been mainly in the cadres of JTO and JEs.

The average age of the employees have gone more than 52% according to reports. Within 10 years, almost all the employees recruited in DOT will be retired. If no further regular recruitment takes place, the staff will be reduced to about 1.20 lakh by that time. Even now many works which were being done by the employees are outsourced spending much and getting little benefit and revenue. For improvement of services much more staff are required.

The BSNL management and the government as also the Unions/associations have to seriously ponder over the issue and take necessary decision to recruit more employees. The recruitment can be in 2 ways: 1) Regularise all the contract workers who have completed ten years service or so. The casual workers should be regulrised as before. 2) Direct recruitment. This will help the services.
