Com. G.L.Dhar, Secretary AITUC passed away yesterday. He was one of the senior leaders of the Confederation of Central Government employees and led many a struggle of the Central Secretariat workers in Delhi. He was personally known to me for a long period. A few months back I have met him in the AITUC office and he helped me in getting a copy of the “Five Glorious Days” written by Com. S.A.Dange on the 1960 CGE strike. His death is a great loss to the TU movement.
My Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and comrades!
I am saddened to learn of the demise of Com Giridhar Lal Dhar, a great leader of Central Secretariat employees in particular and central government employees in general.
When I worked at Union Public Service Commission from 1971 to 1975, he initiated me into trade union by making me Secretary of UPSC Branch of Central Government Clerks Union.
My first article was published in Red Tape, a monthly magazine of Central Secretariat employees edited by Dhar in 1972.
He used to live in Kidwai nagar government quarter where I used to visit his family. His wife, a teacher, used to be good host. His two children, a daughter and son were school going then, were pretty.
His guidance in those days stood me in good stead in my work in Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists and Indian Journalists Union.
My heart goes to his wife and his two children in the hour of bereavement.

Yes, Com.G.L.Dhar was a good comrade and friend. A few weeks before he passed away, I have been at the AITUC office, where he was working. I needed an old book on the 1960 strike and he got it and gave a photo copy of the same. All of us miss him.
