Com.P.Abhimanyu, General Secretary, BSNLEU, has been unanimously elected as the new Convener of the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations in its meeting held today, 13-05-2015.
After the start of the meeting of the Forum today, Com. V.A.N.Namboodiri, Convener, Forum reported about the developments after the strike. The strike has been very successful. The meeting with the DOT is also positive. We have to think about our future action plans.
Further he pointed out that he has been continuing as the Convener of the Joint Forum/JAC/Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations since its inception in 2004 and wanted to be relieved. He briefly mentioned about the strikes organised, the All India Conventions, Parliament Marches, discussion held with Prime Minister and Ministers,other programmes etc. It has been a continued period of agitations and actions without any break on the demands of the workers and the company. He thanked all the comrades for the co-operation extended and proposed that Com.P.Abhimanyu, GS, BSNLEU be elected as Convener.
Almost all the comrades wanted Com.Namboodiri to continue, but the latter was firm in handing over. At last decision was unanimously taken electing Com. P.Abhimanyu as the Convener, Forum.

Under the epoch making leadership of Comrade VAN Namoodiri, Trade Union movement and organisation of Telecom Employees of India has seen from new to newer heights during past two and a half decades. Beginning with unshackling of the union and movement from the reformist leadership and thereafter building up continuous struggle against neo-liberal onslaught on the telecom sector in general and DoT/ BSNL in particular. Not only has the BSNL Employees Union grown up as the big banyan tree, but it ushered in a new era of joint struggles embracing gradually all organisations of both non-executive and executive employees. BSNLEU and BSNL employees movement has acquired a very prestigious place in the overall arena of Indian TU movement. All under the vibrating leadership of our beloved Comrade VAN. As the organisation gets more and more matured, he step by step relinquished all top posts and handed over it to the younger generations. Through this, he has created a new land mark in the TU movement.
Today (13/05/2015), after leading the successful 2-days’ strike of BSNL Employees on 21-22 April 2015 on the demand of “SAVE BSNL – SAVE THE NATION”, he has relinquished the coveted post of Convenor of the Forum of BSNL Unions & Associations. Com. P Abhimanyu, GS/ BSNLEU and the most capable leader of our generation, has been unanimously elected as the new Convenor.
The immense contribution of Comrade VAN Namboodiri can’t be narrated in a few words. It will continue to be evaluated in the future for long, long time like those of Comrade KG Bose.
I convey my best regards and revolutionary ovations to Comrade VAN Namboodiri. He will remain as our ‘Leader Emeritus’. At the same time, I wish Com. Abhimanyu all success.
