TRAI proposes exemption of licence fee for landline broadband
The proposal of the TRAI to exempt licence fee for the broadband based on landline is a correct step. The landlines are mostly loss-making or with hardly any profit. Under such circumstances, universal service by land-lines becomes difficult. If licence fee is exempted companies will be able to provide more landlines and promote broadband.
Further this will benefit BSNL, which is the leader in the landlines and hold the majority market share.
Though land line broad band is dependable and reliable, it is costly and service is awafully burden some. Hence suggest to remove licence as decided so that private players would do better service than BSNL, which has not changed its arrogence and irresponsible way of rendering service. We experience bitterly.
Removing licence fee may not bring the private players in land line. They will enter only when they see that there is profit. Despite waiving licence fee, land lines will be in loss, in the rural areas. Regarding improving of service by BSNL there is no doubt that there is much to be done. That is why the BSNL Unions on their part is making a big campaign for better customer care. One factor in this matter is the mindset. Second is the inability of the workers to provide better service due to the inadequacy of equipment and also the outdated marketing policy of the Management leaving all the customer care to the non-executives, while the customers wish for the engineers and high level officers to contact with them, which unfortunately is not happening. There require changes in the matter.
