Kerala Assembly, Protest

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the Chandy government’s use of police to brutally  attack LDF MLAs inside the assembly and against the public outside the assembly premises. LDF MLAs and the people were protesting demanding that Finance Minister, K.M. Mani should not place the budget as there is a vigilance probe against him which was instituted by the UDF government on allegations of corruption.

As many as 20 MLAs have been seriously injured in the attack with some being admitted to the ICU.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) warns the UDF government to heed to the voice of the people. Such attempts to stifle democratic protests by the people and their representatives will not be tolerated. The P.B. calls upon the people to strongly voice their protest against this brutal attack on democratic rights by the UDF government.

Ports and Docks - corporaitisation

Minister of Shipping Nitin Gadkari has assured the Federations in the Port and Dock Sector that on corporatisation, there will be no retrenchment or privatization. The Minister was on a visit to Kochi, where me met them.

It was exactly this kind of assurance with financial help etc. that was given to the Federations in Department of Telecom, when Service section of DOT was corporatised in to BSNL. But it is well known to every body that the  government violated all the assurances and  tried to disinvest, privatise and also impose VRS. It was only the united struggle of the workers that defeated the anti-worker decisions of the government.

The Ports and Dock Federations are fully aware of the evil designs of the government and will see that the anti-worker moves are defeated. The entire working class will give solidarity and support.

Insurance Bill passed in Rajya Sabha – Congress supports the Bill

Bill, Insurance, Protest

Rajya Sabha yesterday, 12th March 2015, passed the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill 2015, increasing FDI in Insurance Sector from 26% to 49%. The Congress and NDA shamelessly supported the bill and allowed it to pass in the Rajya Sabha, where the ruling party is in a minority. The amendments moved by the Left Parties, which strongly opposed the bill, were defeated jointly by the NDA and UPA.

The Corporates and MNCs were jubilant and expressed their happiness that the Modi Government has passed the bill. According to some of them, more than Rs. 20,000 crore foreign funds are expected after the passing of the bill.

But the sinister fact is that the entire insurance sector, where there is big profit, is going to be taken away by foreign finance. Serious attack will come on the PSU insurance companies. The present subscriber satisfaction will come down.

The Insurance workers have organised a s complete strike on 9th March against the bill, which was a complete success. They are sure to continue the struggle to save the Insurance Sector. Our full support and solidarity to them.

Sustained struggles are required to defeat the anti-working class policies of the government.

Save BSNL

The Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations has issued notice to the CMD, BSNL and Secretary DOT with copies to the Communications Minister, Labour Minister and  Chief labour Commissioner. The 20 point demands mainly are issues connected with the Revival of BSNL and a better service to the people.  Support of the people is very much necessary for the success of our struggle. It is for this purpose Forum has decided for the Signature Campaign. Our workers should go to the people, explain why BSNL is coming down, what actions are to be taken, what the government has to do etc. etc.

The signature collected so far in only about one-fourth of the required that is one crore. Out of this 25 lakhs, it is mainly from four- five circles like Kerala, T.Nadu, A.P., Karnataka, W.Bengal, Kolkata etc. Almost all circles have given the signatures, but it is far less than the quota to complete  crore target.

Circle Secretaries of all unions/associations should immediately start, if not started so far, to organise these programmes in their respective SSAs and collect maximum signature and send to the headquarters or to me direct

Revival of MTNL;BSNL

The Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad assured the Lok Sabha today that there is no proposal to close down the MTNL to the questions raised by the M.P.s. The MPs raised the questions after the  the Minister for Heavy Industries Anant Geete has told the house that MTNL has been declared as sick.

The question is not about the closure. The question, Mr. Minister, is how you are going to revive MTNL; How you are going to revive BSNL?

Prepare for the 21-22 April Strike for Revival of BSNL

The Strike Notice signed by the General Secretaries of the unions and associations in BSNL has been served on CMD BSNL and Secretary, DOT with copies to Minister Communications, Minister for Labour and Employment and Chief Labour Commissioner on 12th March 2015. The 20 point demands of the Forum have been focused.
The notice was served after a well attended demonstration in front of the corporate office which was addressed by the unions/associations leaders.

There are only 40 days left for the strike. This is a ‘Do or Die’ battle. Each and every worker has to be part of this struggle for existence. Nobody can keep away.

The Branch / District level secretaries and leaders have to meet each and every worker and convince the need for active propaganda and also full participation in the strike. Yes, two days wages may be lost. But his is for getting our pay and wages continuously and being in the job. Small sacrifices will be required for bringing back BSNL in to a healthy organisation. It is our duty to revive BSNL which has given us our bread and butter for long years.

Start your preparations now. Make the government understand that we will not accept any non=sense. Take the support of the people with you; You are sure to win the battle.

Budget Speech without Speaker in Kerala Assembly

13 Friday Mar 2015

Unprecedented things are happening in the Kerala Assembly!

The opposition, LDF, in the Kerala Assembly declared that they will not allow the Finance Minister K.M.Mani, allegedly involved in bribe taking, will not be allowed to present the budget. They surrounded the assembly from put side. Inside the opposition MLAs protested and blocked the entrances. The speaker could not even enter the assembly hall. But the Finance Minister, surrounded by his MLAs on his own read a few words and declared that the Budget has been presented.

Without Speaker, the Chairman of the house, how the budget can be presented? It is nothing but a drama. The strong protest of the people and MLAs has succeeded in exposing the UDF and the Finance Minister.
Lakhs of people all over the state are continuing protests.

Spectrum Auction

What CAG stated in his report about the 2G scam is proving true. Spectrum is costly. By the 9th day of the bids, the amount has crossed Rs. 1.02 lakh crore.
The government getting this windfall charges should allot at least Rs.10,000 crore for the revival of BSNL.
