A Bunch of Red Roses on the 13th Death Anniversary of Com. Suseela Gopalan

Comrade Suseela Gopalan

It is difficult to accept that Com. Suseela Gopalan, the mass leader, who was very close to the P and T trade union movement, had left us 13 years back. It seems that she was in our midst just a few weeks back. But it is true that she passed away on 19th December 2001.

Com. Suseela Gopalan, even before she married legendary CPI(M)leader Com. A.K.Gopalan, was in the party. She was a real companion to Com. AKG both as his wife and in the Party. She was the founder President of All India Democratic Womens’ Association (AIDWA), which now has grown in to a strong mass movement of women. She has been elected to the Kerala Assembly and was a Minister in the LDF government.  She was in the Parliament and took up the issues of the workers and the people effectively.

While she was at Delhi as Member of Parliament, I had the occasion to meet her several times to take up cases of central Government employees and specially of the P and T workers. She took these cases sincerely and effectively. She was Chairperson of the Kerala Circle P and T Co-ordinating Committee for some time and gave guidance and direction to the workers.

During my stay at Calicut in Kerala, many times when Coms.AKG and Suseela came to the city, I used to go to the Railway Station to receive them and take them either to the  residence of Advocate P.K.Poduval, where they stayed. They addressed many of the P and T union meetings and conferences.

On her 13th death anniversary, I respectfully pay homage to Com. Suseela Gopalan and remember the great service she had done to the common people and specially to the P and T workers.

A bunch of Red Roses to the inspiring memory of Com. Suseela Gopalan !

$ 439 billion Black Money outside India, almost same in India

black money

According to a study report of the Global Financial Integrity, it is estimated that about $ 439 billion is the financial outflow from India to other countries, mostly black money from 2003 to 2012. In 2012 alone it is $. 94.8 billion.

The report also indicates that almost the same amount will be the black money stashed inside India also.

Studies, reports etc. are OK. But what about catching the holders of black money and punishing the guilty? The inaction on the part of the UPA and NDA  governments clearly show that they are not interested in catching the big fish. Till such time drastic actions are taken, black money will flourish.

Present Dalai Lama has stated that there may not be any further Dalai Lama. Is it because the next Dalai Lama may accept  Tibet as part of China?

What about 5300 Spice Jet employees?

The financial position of airlines  Spice Jet is in real trouble and hundreds of flights are cancelled. Many pilots have already left for other companies. But what about other employees numbering more than 5000. It is very difficult for them to get jobs.
Company Directors and owners must have secured their position. But it is the employees who will lose their jobs and suffer.
Earlier Nokia. Now Spice Jet. Is the government hearing?

US and Cuba to restore diplomatic ties; US blockade of Cuba ends.

blockade, Cuba, US

It is a very good news! The US and Cuba has decided to restore the diplomatic relations between the two countries. It has been 23 years that US has issued blockade and embargo against the tiny Socialist state in 1961. It had seriously and adversely affected the trade of Cuba with other countries, but it managed.

Now there as been an exchange of prisoners also. The left out 3 Cubans in jail in US has been released and Cuba also has released the US prisoners.

It is stated that the Pope and Vatican have been in discussion with both the countries and the present understanding has been reached. Further a large majority f the countries in the UN have been continuously pressing to remove the US blockade of Cuba. US was being isolated.

Let us hope that the new development will improve the bitter relations between the countries.

Coal strike

PTI Report

New Delhi, Dec 17 Employee unions of state-owned CIL and SCCL today threatened to go on a five-day strike beginning January 6 to press for demands including roll-back of the “process of denationalisation of coal sector” and stopping “disinvestment and restructuring” of Coal India.

The coal workers Coal India Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) will observe five days all India strike with effect from January 6,” four central trade unions –BMS, INTUC, HMS and AITUC–said in a joint statement.

The strike call comes at a time when the country is grappling with coal shortages and as many as 43 thermal power plants are facing significant fuel deficit.

The charter of demands include stopping or withdrawing “process of denationalisation of coal sector” and stopping “disinvestment, restructuring of CIL” (Coal India) among others.

The demands also includes extending National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA) wages and other benefits to existing and prospective captive coal workers and lifting the ban on general recruitment.

Regularising contract workers engaged in mining jobs in underground as well as open cast mines is another demand. (PTI)

Ensure one crore signature in the Memorandum to Prime Minister

One Crore Signature, Revival of BSNL

The Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations of Non-Executives and Executives has decided to submit a Memorandum to the Prime Minister on the day of the Parliament March on 25th February 2015, signed by one crore people demanding actions from the government for the Revival of BSNL, the telecom PSU, fully owned by the Government of India, the people of this country.  The people  want the service of BSNL, as they had been accustomed for the last one and half century from the P and T Department.

How to get the one crore signature? BSNL workers are only about 2.3 lakhs. It means that each employee has to meet  people and after convincing them about the issues of BSNL, get their signature in the memorandum. You can sit near the Railway Station, Bus Stand, at meeting places – wherever people are there, you go and explain to them and get the signature. For this purpose alone. you can have separate meeting of the trade unions, explain the situation and get the signatures. Go to the offices of Central and State government, PSU employees and get their signature. Like this there are so many methods, how you can contact the public and make the issue very relevant. Prepare yourself with our main demands for the revival of BSNL and give wide publicity through the media. Organise press conferences and get the news published. Meet your MLA/MP and other representatives of the people and request them to raise the issue in the various forums. There are so many methods by which the issue can be propagated. Do all these and organise the people in our support. You will certainly get not one crore signature, but more than that.

The Forum in the circle must have a target of at least 50 times or more signatures of their staff strength. Then only we will be able to reach the target. Plan accordingly.

The time is very limited only two months for the Parliament March. Start immediately. All the collected signatures have to be brought  with you at the time of the Parliament March, so that it can be handed over to the Prime Minister.

SAVE BSNL – SAVE NATION
