Pakistan Workers, pension

(PLF) Demanded to raise the pension as Announcement by the Government

Pakistan Labour Federation Founder/Secretary General Haji Muhammad Saeed Arian has said that despite Federal Government announcement of raise in pension in 2013-14 budget EOBI (Employees Old Age Benefit Institution) management has not raised it to Rs5,000 from Rs3,600 which should have taken effect from July 2013. In a statement issued here July 3 he said that similarly in 2014-Federal Minister raised pension to Rs6,000 but such directives are not issued for EOBI which may enable workers to get Rs6,000. He said that it appears that workers were first deprived of Rs5,000 and they would continue to be deprived of Rs6,000 as well.He said that Government is basically against workers and it is regrettable that not a single member of National Assembly has the guts to ask Federal Finance Minister why the raise in pension of 2013-14 is not allowed to workers and what kind of legislation is being done now to ensure increase in pension of workers for 2014-15. He said that sitting EOBI chairman is not taking action. He demanded of Government to ensure payment of pension as per announcement made in last two years should be given to workers.
A meeting of Pension Claimants Action Committee which was held here under chairmanship of Haji Muhammad Saeed Arian condemned anti workers attitude of EOBI The meting noted that applications of affected people for pension claim are pending and it’s a fake announcement that pensions would be paid in 45 days.
The meeting said that claims are filed one to two years back but no decision is taken It said that ever-since presence head has taken over the charge situation has aggravated and he has even issued directives not to issue claim forms, depriving workers of their rights.

ASIA, CONSTRUCTION, HEALTH AND SAFETY, INDIA
Construction workers Federation Of India (CWFI) expresses its deep concern about the death of construction workers in Chennai, Capital Of Tamil Nadu.
On 28th June,2014 at Moulivakkam in Chennai, a 11 storey under Construction building got collapsed. According to, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mrs. Jayalaithaa 72 Construction Workers were Trapped under the Debris.Till Date, the Death toll has touched 55. CWFI deeply mourns the death of the workers. Initial probe reveals that the Madurai Based Developer company ‘prime Sristi’ has not adhered to approved plans. There were gigantic flaws in that construction.
The Migrant Construction workers mostly belong from Andhra Pradesh and Odissa. Tamil Nadu Government already set a one man probe commission headed by an ex-judge. The Police have detained six people including the promoters and developers. CWFI observes that is not enough. CWFI strongly demands that Tamil Nadu Government must provide Ex-gratia of Rs. 10lac to the families of dead workers and Rs. 1 lac to the families of injured workers. CWFI also demand a CID enquiry to the incident.
The incident is really an eye opener, CWFI demands Government should implement strictly the regulations and Safety norms for the Real Estate and developer companies thus the Migrant Construction workers should not bear the brunt of the menace.

WFTU denounces the criminal negligence of the employer and joins its voice with its affiliate CWFI of India on their fair demands.

Privatisation of Railway Stations ?

Prime Minister, privatisation, Railway Stations

In the name of improving the Railway Stations in the country, the NDA government seems to be in the process of privatising them or at least allowing private participation. This is what can be assumed from the speech of Prime minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating the Katra-Udhampur train in Jammu and Kashmir.
The case of Airport is there where Mumbai and Delhi Airport has been entrusted with private companies from the Airport Authority. While Airport Authority did not charge anything from the passengers, the private companies are charging hefty amount. In addition everything connected with these airports have become costlier. From tea and coffee to parking as well taxi charges.
If private participation is allowed the same thing will be repeated.
The people have to think whether privatisation of railway Stations is necessary?

Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

On Moves to Scrap MGNREGA

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly protests against any move to scrap or weaken the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). It is reported in the press that the Rajasthan Chief Minister has made a proposal to extinguish the legal guarantee under the Act and convert it into a scheme. A party which promised job creation during its election campaign is now suggesting the elimination of the only legal guarantee for creation of jobs, namely MGNREGA. The last years of the UPA government had also seen MGNREGA become a hostage to fiscal considerations and funds were severely cut.

The Polit Bureau demands strengthening of the Act, measures to ensure a minimum of hundred days work and to protect the rights of the intended beneficiaries by ensuring implementation of all the clauses pertaining to wage payment, compensation for delayed payment and also unemployment allowance and to make available funds to pay the arrears with immediate effect.

The Government has decided to introduce RuPay Debit Cards and instructed the Public Sector Banks to issue the same to their Account holders. Extract of a report from the Economic Times is given below in this connection.
“For the first time in their 30-year existence, Visa and MasterCard, the world’s largest payment companies, are facing the heat in India. Lending its weight behind the local card scheme, RuPay, the government has asked state-owned banks to issue RuPay debit cards to customers.”

Tata Motors post loss for FY 2014, Shareholders oppose increased compensation to Directors

Compensation, Directors, Tata Motors

It seems that for the first time the share-holders of the Tata Motors have put their foot on the management. The Management had decided high compensation for its Directors coming to crores. As per Companies Act, if a company is in loss, the compensation to its Director is limited to 48 lakhs.
Now the Tata Motors for Financial Year 2014 has posted loss. If the compensation is to be more than 48 lakhs, the approval of the share holders is necessary. This time when the loss has taken place, 75% of the shareholders have rejected the proposal for higher compensation for its Directors. Now, if the Management acts according to the opinion of the shareholders, some of the directors will have to return Rs. 3 crores to 14 crores.
But it is certain that the management / Directors will find out some plea/reason to keep up their high compensation. It will only be the workers who will have to face the result of the loss, not the Directors who are fully responsible for the loss.
