Govt. should assist BSNL for financial viability

Asstce from Government, BSNL

BSNL is a fully owned government company serving the people by connecting India through the communication services. For the last four years it is on loss, mainly due to the anti-PSU policy of the Government. While giving lip-service, the government took away all the surplus of the company and restricted its growth by cancelling the tender for mobile equipment etc.
At least now, in the present crisis, it is the duty of the government to take actions to strengthen BSNL and improve its finances.
We put the following demands for the immediate improvement of the BSNL:
1. Release the Rs. 1,250 crore allotted by USOF to BSNL.
2. Pension contribution being collected from BSNL should be on the basis of the actual basis pay of the employee and not the maxim of the pay scale, which is completely unjustified.
3. Reimburse the charge of the Spectrum which has been returned by BSNL to government.
4. Waive the Notional Loan of Rs. 7,500 to BSNL (not paid at all), and refund fully all the Rs. 12,000crore or so paid by BSNL to DOT towards interest for the Notional loan.
The Government has to assist in many other ways, but the above issues can be decided quickly and the amounts paid to BSNL.
We demand the government to act quickly to save BSNL.

Belgaum, BSNL Non-permanent workers, conciliation

The BSNL Non-Permanent Workers in Belgaum is on the struggle path. After sustained struggle earlier, they were given minimum wage as per orders. But later all of the 284 employees were victimised and sent out stating that there is no work. no new tenders were also not floated. The Management and contractor were taking revenge upon the poor workers whose only crime was that they demanded that their full wages be paid to them ending the exploitation.
The Union started agitation against retrenchment. They started indefinite dharna after giving due notice. The Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner intervened and in the meeting held on, 19-02-2014 the issue was discussed. On the advice of the Dy.CLC, the dharna was deferred. The next meeting of conciliation will be held on 25-03-2014. We demand the management to settle the issue amicably by reinstating all the retrenched workers, who have been serving BSNL for a long period.

One Public Speak gets more than one year salary

salary, Speak money

It is very difficult to believe, but it is true. One Public speak by the former President, US Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke got $ 2,50,000 for a 40 minutes speech in Abu Dhabi, while his salary for one year in his post was only $1,99,700.
It is not the first similar case. His predecessor in the same post, Greenspan also got more than his one year salary for his speech after retiring from the post.
While the poor put all efforts to get something to live somehow, the people at the top are paid huge sums, because they are at the top, This is what capitalism has brought to the common people.

Bad Loans (NPA) of PSU Banks on increase, reached 2.36 lakh crore – who is responsible?

06 Thursday Mar 2014

The bad loans or Non – Performing Assets (NPA) of the Public Sector Banks are increasing year after year. It has reached gigantic proportions. The latest report says that it has crossed Rs. 2.36 lakh crore. Almost all the top corporate houses are defaulters of hundreds of crore of rupees. No serious action is being taken by the Banks to recover the same since the defaulters are influential.
But what about the ordinary people who have taken loans from the same banks. All pressures and threats are put to them to pay up.
This is what happens in India – the difference in class makes all differences!

New Bank Licences

The Finance Minister’s insistence on licence for New Banks
The Finance Minister P.Chidambaram has stated that the declaration of election will not have any obstruction in granting licences to new banks. He wants that new banks be given licence.
In fact, there is no need for new banks, with so many banks in the country. Two, the new banks will be mainly from the corporate houses who want their own banks, so that they manipulate them. Of course, grant of bank licence to India Post, there is no objection since it is already functioning with P.O.Savings Bank.

The schedule was announced by Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath along with Election Commissioners H S Brahma and Dr Nasim Zaidi at a press conference held at Vigyan Bhavan in the national capital.
The elections would see more than 81.4 crore voters exercise their ballot; the number of voters is 10 crore more than the last general election held in 2009. The term of the current Lok Sabha expires on June 1 and the new House has to be constituted by May 31.
Sampath said that the EC had taken into consideration factors like examination schedules and weather conditions.
The EC said that electoral roll have already been updated till January 1, 2014 and final rolls have been published in all states.
However, the EC has offered one more opportunity to enroll in the electoral rolls. Camps would be set up on March 9 at all polling booths – around 9,30,000 – across the country to allow people to enroll themselves, the EC said.
The Model Code of Conduct for governments and political parties will come into force with immediate effect.
On the security measures being implemented by the EC, Sampath said, “To ensure free and fair elections we have taken particular care to ensure that people living in vulnerable areas and vulnerable voters are in continuous touch with the election machinery to ensure that they are able to vote uninterpreted by anyone.”
“Adequate number of observers in different categories will be deployed during the forthcoming elections,” he added.
On the neutrality of officials engaged in conduct of elections, Sampath said the EC expects them to discharge their duty without fear or favour.
“Strict action will be taken against officials who are found wanting in any aspect,” the CEC said.
With regards to the steps being taken to curb use of money power in the elections, he said, “The Election Commission has mounted a series of measures for monitoring expenditure; special emphasis is given to check flow of money during elections.”
“Besides expenditure observers, sufficient number of flying squads will be employed to check use of money power,” he added.
In response to a query by Zee Media, Election Commissioner HS Brahma said, “Appeal to all candidates, star candidates, they should not use any words which is against decorum & decency.”
An important feature of the polls would be the introduction of paper trail system for electronic voting in some constituencies on a trial basis.
Also, the EC has issued guidelines to political parties asking them to explain the rationale of financing the promises they make in their election manifestos. The guidelines that followed Supreme Court directions in this regard have now been made part of the Model Code.
Another first in the Lok Sabha elections will be the introduction of “None of the Above” (NOTA) option in voting, which came into vogue in the assembly elections a few months ago.
From the coming elections, candidates in a parliamentary constituency in bigger states can spend up to Rs 70 lakh on their campaign, up from Rs 40 lakh in 2011. In the 2009 elections, it was Rs 25 lakh.(PTI)
