What is the future of UIDAI?

13 Thursday Mar 2014

It is reported that Nandan Nilekani has resigned as Chairman of the
Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI) today, 13 March 2014, in order to contest in the ensuing General election from Bangalore.

The UIDAI and Aadhaar has been pointed out as one of the biggest achievement and credit of the UPA government. Thousands of crores of rupees have been spent on it. So far only 9 million cards have been issued as per the statement of Nilekani and the balance are yet to be issued. It is still incomplete. The chairman is leaving it half-done. There is no information, who will be the next Chairman, how the work will be completed etc. etc.

There has been strong opposition to the scheme itself from many corners, including political parties. Why there should be two schemes, one the census and voter cards and secondly this Aadhaar Cards? It has also been alleged that this has got CIA connection. The UPA government has not been able to give any convincing reply.

Now it has become clear that the UPA government was not serious and it was only a publicity stunt. Otherwise, why it should allow the task unfinished and the Chairman whisked away for contesting in election?

What will happen if another party/parties come in to power? Most probably the entire scheme may be cancelled. Thousands of crores of rupees gone waste for somebody’s ‘great idea’.

Subhas Chandra Bose

The death of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, one of the greatest leaders of the freedom movement, one-time President of the Indian National Congress and the Commander of the Indian National Army (INA) formed during the II World War outside India from the Army Personnel who had to surrender to the Japanese and also the Indian people living in Burma, Singapore, Thailand etc., to fight against the British to win freedom, is still a mystery. It is believed that he died on 18 August 1945 in Taiwan while he was travelling in plane to evade surrender to the British. His ashes are kept in the Renkoji Temple in Japan. There has been several demands to bring his ashes from Japan to India. In this connection, the latest news is given below:

Ahmedabad, Mar 13 : A group of activists from India and Japan here today made an appeal to the President and Prime Minister to bring back the remains of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose from Tokyo to his home land.
“We request to bring back the ashes of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, which are safely kept in Renkoji temple in Tokyo, to the motherland India,” said the activists.
The group, named as ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Memorial Indo Japan Foundation’, has also submitted representations to the PM and the President setting a deadline till August 18, the death anniversary of ‘Netaji’ this year.
“We want to bring back the ashes before the 68th death anniversary of Netaji,” the foundation’s president B S Deshmukh told reporters here.(PTI).

14 March, death anniversary, Karl Marx

14 March is the death anniversary of Karl Marx, the greatest philosopher the world has ever seen and the architect of the Manifesto of the Communist Party. He was born on 5th May 1818 an passed away on 14th March 1883 at the age of 65.
The Manifesto of the Communist Party was first published in February 1848 and has been later published in almost all languages in the world. It changed the world itself.
He died and was cremated in Highgate cemetery in London. I take it as a great privilege to have been able to visit the cemetery of Marx.

Red Salute to Karl Marx! Workers of the World Unite!

The UPA II is lavish in spending govt. money for advertisements just before elections. It has put govt. advertisements in all leading papers for about one month costing the goverment huge sums of money. 5 to 10 full page advertisements could be seen every day. BJP state governments were also not behind.
But the Trinamul Govt. of W.Bengal Trinamul Govt. has broken all records. 13 advts were published by Anand Bazar Patrika and 9 by The Telegraph on 1March alone with photoes of Mamata Banerjee.
Looting govt. for self aggrandishment!

A senior officer is under CBI scan for the mobile phone contract to a private telecom company by the RailTel. One lakh closed user group connections were provided as per this contract in which RailTel reportedly lost Rs.50 crore.
It is to be pointed out here that    BSNL, the govt. telecom company, did not get the order although it submitted tender.

disparity increase

There is a serious widening disparity in pay across job levels in the Asia Pacific region, according to a report by Towers Watson, a professional service company.
India of course is in front. The disparity in India has increased many folds during the 2-3 decades. This wide disparity has to be changed for equality. It is not easy, but a combined effort has to be made.

Resolution, TUI(P and R), WFTU

The lengthy resolution adopted by the Barcelona Foundation conference of the Trade Union International (TUI) of Retires and Pensioners held on 5-6 February 2014 examines the developments in the lat century, the victory of the Russian Revolution, the growth and success of Socialism in Eastern Europe, the multi-polar world, which benefitted the working class and the senior citizens and later the collapse of the USSR, the uni-polar world dictated by the capitalist system, the recession, the attack on the working class and retirees, the need for sustained struggles etc. The resolution itself is a study class for the workers and the retirees.
The Resolution concludes like this:

X.-The first congress of TUI, P&R and WFTU appeals for mass affiliation of retired workers and seniors to fight for the following common objectives:

1) Organize seniors and retired workers who agree with giving themselves an instrument for the class defence as part of the trade unionism´s model represented by the WFTU in the struggle against inequalities and for the ensuring of a dignified life to all workers – male and female – who have dedicated their entire labour lives to the well being of society.
2) Join our forces and experiences to give further strength to the working and popular movements, to those employed workers whose aim is to create, through mass actions, the conditions needed to socialize the capitalist´s means of production and for the collectivization of the wealth taken from earth as to ensure workers the enjoyment of the product derived from their´s work force in equal terms for all, so nobody would be the victim of the exploitation planned by the privileged elements of society.
3) We must fight in order to attain our aim to get to every worker in the world a decent retirement income from 60 years old onwards (the retirement age should be improved in the course of the struggle) along with public health care services, proper and decent housing, culture, leisure, the access to public, high quality, transportation system, healthy environment and special care for the disabled.

XI.- This first Congress has approved the launching of TUI of pensioners and retired workers, as member of the WFTU; it has also approved its articles of association and its political and trade union document (available in ten different languages at the web /www.pensionistas.info/web/es). The Congress has appointed the world leaders of this TUI (formed by veteran trade unionist and internationalist organizers from all over the world). It has also settled its headquarters at Barcelona under the Management of the Spanish branch of CSU / P&R (till the celebration of its second congress), has prepared the necessary meetings in order to complete the Executive Board.

XII.- Hundreds of millions of pensioners and retired workers have now at their disposal a new tool in their struggle for their rights.

LONG LIVE TO WORKING CLASS!
DOWN WITH WAR!
LONG LIVE TO PROLETARIAN INTERNATIONALISM!
LONG LIVE TO WFTU!

SC transfers GDS case to Delhi High Court

GDS, High Court, NFPE, SC

The Supreme Court has transferred the Writ Petition filed by the NFPE and All India Postal Employees Union GDS(NFPE) seeking for direction to be issued to the Union of India to treat Gramin Dak Sevaks (formerly called Extra Departmental Employees) as Civil Servants for all purposes on par with regular employees and also seeking declaration of GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules as invalid and unconstitutional to the Delhi High Court for consideration. The Supreme Court also stated that Delhi High will be the appropriate Court as the matter is better considered by one High Court.

The Judgement is very important on two counts. One, the SC has taken the issue seriously. Second, the case has been transferred from SC to High Court, which is not usually ordered. The case will be disposed in SC and the petitioner will be asked to approach the High Court. Here, the SC itself has transferred the case directly to Delhi HC, instead of asking the petitioner to file the case.

The NFPE deserves appreciation for taking up the case. I hope that the High Court takes a favourable decision.
