Parliament March by Peasants on 18th February 2014

16 Sunday Feb 2014

New Delhi, February 16: Hundreds of peasants from the States neighbouring Delhi will March to Parliament on 18th February demanding remunerative prices for their produce and other related matters.

The Congress-led UPA Government has not been taking into account the increasing input costs due to decontrol and has been fixing the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) in such a manner that the cultivating peasantry do not even recover the costs of production in most crops, let alone earning surplus. Even the MSP announced in such a manner is not realisable by the peasantry as there is no effective procurement in most States. Different state governments are also not taking any steps to provide incentive to the peasantry. AIKS has been protesting against the flawed mode of calculation of the Costs of Production in the meetings of Commission For Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) as well as with the government. However, the government has not made any efforts to address these concerns. Instead it has decided to increase annually the MSP by only Rs.50/Qtl for paddy and wheat irrespective of the exorbitant rise in input costs. Sugarcane farmers are also in a crisis due to unremunerative prices, non-payment of arrears and deregulation.

The UPA as well as Congress-led state governments have also decided to keep fruits and vegetables outside the purview of the APMC Act. This effectively will benefit big buyers, like organised retailers and small farmers will struggle to access markets. The networks and individuals who control the existing trade in fruits and vegetables will become more dominant. Instead of increasing market access with better infrastructure, transport facilities, collection centres, removal of middlemen and entrenched lobbies comprising politicians, traders and commission agents, the move only is aimed at strengthening their role as well as that of organised retail.

Against these policies the AIKS has called for a March to Parliament. The March will begin at Jantar Mantar by 10.00 AM and will be addressed by leaders of the Kisan Sabha as well as Members of Parliament. A delegation will meet the Agriculture Minister and submit a memorandum.

A delegation will also submit a memorandum to Chairman of Dedicated Freight Corridor Limited against the unfair compensation for land being acquired for the Dedicated Freight Corridor in Uttar Pradesh and seek enhanced compensation as well as just resettlement and Rehabilitation. Active Connections, BSNL, MTNL

Not only the BSNL is below on the total number of wireless connections to Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance and Idea, it is also much below all of them in active connections also.
The total wireless connections as in March 2013, the total connections and active connections are given below: % of active connections given in brackets.

Airtel 188,196071 ( 24.73%), Vodafone 152,353,654 (20.15%), Reliance 122,972,717 (14.76%), Idea 121,607,390 (16.63%) BSNL 101,206,625 (7.53%) MTNL 4,999,351 (0.32%).

The less number of active connections may be due to the government and other official connections. MTNL, which functions in Delhi and Mumbai alone has got only 0.32% connections.

However, this is a matter to be examined and the reason found out.

Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro

It was on this day, 16th February in 1959 that Fidel Castro became the Prime Minister of Socialist Cuba. After the dictator Barista was removed by the guerillas headed by Fidel Castro, Cuba was declared as a Socialist State.
The US and other imperialist countries tried several times to assassinate Fidel, but failed. An attack was planned by US against Cuba, but that also failed.
Cuba continues as a Socialist State. Cuba was alone in the Latin American / Caribbean Islands earlier. But now majority of the countries are against US imperialism and is with Cuba.
Fidel Continued as Prime Minister till 1976, when he became the President and continued till 2008 in that post. He vacated the position on health grounds and Raul Castro became the President.
Though he is 88 and is on rest, Fidel still writes and on very few occasions meet the people.
Fidel Castro has become a Revolutionary Legend in his own time.

Japan going back on its slogan “Will Never Wage War!”

China, japan, Korea

After the utter defeat in the World War II (1942-45), Japan was compelled to turn away from its aggressive designs. In its constitution 1950, it was clearly stated that Japanese Military will not engage in aggression and “will never wage war.” Of course, it was declared when Japan was under the control of US, after the WW II. However this position was being maintained all these years.

Now the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, wants to change from that position. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party wants to amend the constitution to delete that portion. Further the PM recently visited and prayed at the Yasukuni Shrine, where many of the Japanese war criminals are buried. This has brought strong protests from China and both North and South Korea, who were victims of the Japanese Aggression.

This is not well for world peace.

Scrap the Airports Privatisation

AAI, Airport, privatisation

The Government has been compelled to postpone the privatisation of the six airports viz. Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow and Guwahati to March due to certain technical issues.

All these airports have already been modernised by Airport Authority of India (AAI), the PSU, at a high cost to the exchequer. The modernisation of Kolkata and Chennai airports had cost the AAI Rs 2,325 crore and Rs 2,015 crore respectively. The cases of other airports are also not different.

It is surprising how the UPA govt. is selling these airports along with the adjacent lands to the private companies at very meagre amount. The windfall benefit got to GMR, the private company which took over the Delhi Airport from the AAI is well known. The CAG has also pointed out the same. Despite that, the government is moving to privatise the other major profitable airports leaving the loss making ones to the AAI.

After privatisation of the airports, the price of car-parking, tea, coffee, snacks, for every thing has more than doubled up.The privatisation is only to maximise the profit of the private companies.

There should be strong protest against selling of these national assets for meagre price. These airports should continue with the AAI. Privatisation should be stopped.
