August 12th is very important to the British Rule in India. It was on this day in 1765, that the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam granted the Diwany of Bengal, Behar (Bihar) and Orissa to the British. This gave the British a great advantage.

The Plassey War in 1757 in which siraj-ud-Daulah was defeated, the 1765 Diwany from Mughal Emperor and the suppression of Sepoy Mutiny ( First War of Independence ) of 1857 are some of the important years of British consolidation of their empire in India.
