India, Tourists

Both India and Goa are  not considered as good destinations for Russian travellers  said Ekaterina Belyakova, head of the Russian information Centre. (Press report)

Certain other foreign countries have earlier stated that India is not safe for women tourists. According to Goan tourist industry, about 2,50,000 Russians have been visiting Goa in an year. Many reports of rapes of foreign women tourists are appearing in the papers.

Is India losing its tourist attraction! Government and the people have to make all out efforts to improve our hospitality and better treatment for tourists.

India ranks 129th in Telecom quality improvement

India, ITU, Ranking

India ranks 129th among the world nations in the ranking of quality improvement in information and communication technologies as per report of the International Telecom Union (ITU). Denmark is first followed by Korea, Sweden and Ice Land and UK. US ranks 14th.

The Government, the Telecom companies, including BSNL and MTNL, and the workers have to jointly make all efforts for providing a better service to the people. In this connection, the Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has asked reports from BSNL and MTNL. Calling reports is not sufficient. Government should financially assist BSNL and MTNL to procure equipment as also waive the licence fee, taxes etc. as a one time measure. The Government is proposing to waive tax arrears of Vodafone and Nokia. Why not these benefits be given to BSNL and MTNL also, the government’s own companies?

‘Giving Index’ – India ranks 106th among 145 nations!

'Giving Index', 106/145, India

According to the Charities Aid Foundation World Giving Index, India ranks at 106 out of 145 countries on the ‘giving index’ meaning giving charity, helping strangers, volunteering for good cause etc. India’s , Mneighbour Myanmar ranks first in the list.

It is a sad commentary on the people of India. With a great civilisation of hospitality, friendship etc., India is still in the back yard. We certainly have to improve.

A report by PTI is  given below about the massive bribery by  MNC Wal-Mart in India. Thousands of people have been bribed to get customs clearing etc.  It is an international scandal. How to stop corruption and bribery? Will the Mody Government take action?

“New York, Oct 19 : A US government investigation is said to have found evidence of Wal-Mart Stores Inc allegedly paying thousands of small bribes to Indian officials to get customs clearances and obtain real-estate permits, the Wall Street Journal reported today.

Vast majority of payments were below USD 200 (about Rs 13,000 at current exchange rate) and some were as low as USD 5(Rs 330) but together totalled millions of dollars.

The three-year federal probe “found evidence of bribery in India, centring on widespread but relatively small payments made to local officials there”, the Journal reported citing persons it didn’t identify.

“Much of the suspected bribery investigators unearthed in India involves thousands of small payments to low-level local officials to help move goods through customs or obtain real-estate permits.

“The vast majority of the suspicious payments were lessthan USD 200, and some were as low as USD 5,” it said. “But when added together they totalled millions of dollars.”

The world’s largest retailer entered India in 2007through a supermarket joint venture with Bharti Enterprisesbut split up in 2013. Since then, it is mostly focused onwholesale business.

Wall Street Journal said investigators found similar payments in Mexico, but “the bulk of such activity seemed to be in India”. (PTI)

Member of Parliament of UK, Keith Vaz has supported the demand of India for the return of the Kohinoor Diamond, which was taken away by the British during their regime in India. Indian origin Kenneth Vaz stated that he supports the demand and it is appropriate that the Kohinoor be given back during the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Modi to England in November 2015. The Kohinoor Diamond, stated to be the biggest in the world, decorated the throne of the Mughal Emperors.

Not only the Kohinoor, but the precious antiques and the historical memorials taken away by the British should be returned to India. These are part of the Indian history and should be with India.

Shame Congress/UPA, Shame BJP/NDA ! Cry India.

India, Social Progress Index

47 years of independence has not  improved the lot of the common people in India. Millionaires, Billionaires and super rich have grown in India, but not the ordinary man. India is at the 101st position among 133 countries in social progress index. Even Sri Lanka (88), Nepal (98) and Bangladesh (100) are above India. All the other BRICS countries ie. Brazil, S.Africa, China and Russia are above India.

This is a sorry state of affairs. It is a shame. The Congress /UPA which ruled the country for a long period and the NDA/BJP which also ruled for sometime and is in the rulers position now, have to answer to the people for this sorry state of affairs. It is blatant corruption and systematic exploitation of the toiling masses. These anti-people rulers have to be thrown out by the people.

Around 13,000 wage slaves in UK ; How much in India?

India, slaves inUK

The U.K. Home Office has stated that there are up to 13,000 people working as slaves in U.K. This is based on the assessment of the Police, UK Border Force, Charities and the Gang Masters of Licencing Authority.

The slavery victims include women forced to Prostitution, domestic staff, workers in the fields, factories and fishing boats etc. More of the slave victims are from other countries like Albania, Nigeria, Romania etc. trafficked in to UK.

In UK, as stated above, there are about 13,000 slaves? What is the number of such slaves in India? If the above criterion is taken, the slaves in India will run into crores.Whether the government has any idea about how much it will be ?

Earlier, the foreign invaders kept Indians as slaves. But now the Indian rulers, themselves, are keeping other Indians as slaves. This has to be changed. Nobody should be slaves. All should be free citizens, not only to cast vote, but also financially free.

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Started.

AIIB, India, US, World bank

This is a good and welcome development. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is launched today, 24th October 2014 at Shanghai, China, attended by most of the countries in Asia. But Australia, South Korea and Indonesia did not attend due to US pressure, who sees the new bank as a rival to World bank as also the Asian Development Bank controlled by it.

The AIIB with an investment of $ 50 billion is expected to help the Asian countries by giving loans at cheaper rates and more liberal conditions than both World Bank and Asian Development Bank. Naturally, US, World Bank etc. are not happy with the new development. India is an active partner of the Bank.

Rich, Poor Difference going on increasing – UN-ESCAP

India, Inequality, rich & poor

It has once again been confirmed that the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing continuously and dangerously. The latest report of the United Nations – Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific has stated that there has been an increase in the income inequality in major economies in recent decades. And India is one of these.

In India the inequality between rich and the poor increased from 30.8 to 33.9 during the decade 1990 to 2000.

All of us know this from our daily experience. The fact is there. How to change it is the question. The neo-liberal policies will only increase the gap.

Peaceful resolving of the India-China Border issue.

China, India, relations

It is reported that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had met yesterday and discussed bilateral issues. Well and good.
Both the countries are neighbours and have centuries old friendship and relationship. India-China Bhai Bhai slogan of the 1950s still rings in our years. Unfortunately the relations have been strained later. One of the dispute is about the border issue.
It is in the interest of both the two great countries of the world to sit together and sort out the issues amicably to the benefit of both the countries.
