The casual contract workers in BSNL, Kerala Circle are on an agitation from 22nd June, 2015. Then they started an indefinite hunger fast before the CGMT office  from 6th July,2015 as there has been no positive response from the Circle administration to settle the genuine demands. The leaders of the BSNL CCLU , Kerala Circle are participating in the fast. Though a conciliation meeting was held at the initiative of the Chief Labour Commissioner, Kerala, the talk failed as the Circle administration failed to send a responsible officer with proper authority to the said meeting. The CGMT is playing a hide and seek game in the agitation by his conspicuous absence in the office most of the period. At the same time he is making all sort of provocations by issuing memos virtually banning the agitation. He has also dared  to victimize the BSNLEU leaders including the Circle Secretary alleging participation in the agitation.

It is in this background that BSNLEU Circle Union was compelled to call for a day/night dharna at all SSAs in Kerala on 22-23 July, 2015 demanding immediate intervention of the CGMT to settle CCLU agitation.  The mass day/night Dharna before the CGMT office, Thiruvananthapuram was inaugurated by Com.Raju Abraham M L A on 22nd morning. Com.K.G.Jayaraj, General Secretary, AIBDPA, Com.P.V. Chandrasekharan, All India Patron, AIBDPA and a host of leaders addressed the dharna and offered support. (Courtesy: AIBDPA)

The Indefinite Hunger strike  by the Kerala Casual and Contract Labour Union ( affiliated to BSNLCCWF)leaders is continuing for the 11th day. The demands include increase in minimum wage, regularisation, upgradation of long serving workers in to skilled category etc. There is strong protest against the adamant and unhelpful attitude of the Circle management. Leaders of CITU, BSNLEU and other trade unions have fully supported the struggle. Demonstrations of solidarity and support by many trade unions continue.

Com.VAN Namboodiri,President BSNLEU had  discussed the issue with CMD BSNL and requested intervention. But no further discussion has taken place between the Circle management and the union.

We demand the Corporate Office and the Circle Management to discuss with the agitating union and sort out the issues.

BSNL Contract workers as per the call of the CCLU Kerala is on struggle on the basis of the Charter of Demands presented to the Management. These include higher wage, upgrading workers to skilled workers, against reducing of hours of work etc. After organising dharnas in front of GMs and CGM Offices, Circle Secretary, Com.N.R.Somasekharan Nair and Com. B.Babu, Asst. Treasurer are on Hunger Strike in front of CGM Office Thiruvananthapuram since 6th July 2015. Management had earlier called for discussion, but no settlement could be reached due to the adamant stand taken by the Circle management. BSNLEU Workers organised protest meetings in all centres against victimisation of Circle BSNLEU leaders for supporting the agitation and participating in the action programmes of the CCLU.

BSNLCCWF CHQ demands the circle management to discuss the charter of demands with the unions, vacate the victimisation etc. thus paving way for a settlement.

Com.VAN Namboodiri, President, BSNLCCWF, met Shri Anupam Shrivastava, CMD BSNL today, 8th July and discussed about the payment of wages to the TSM/Casual labour. BSNLCCWF/UP(E)                                                                                                       20th June  2015

To

The Asst. Labour Commissioner (Central), Allahabad,

189-A/4, Alopi Bagh, Allahabad (UP)

Sub: Complaint about non-payment of minimum Wage, non-implementation of EPF etc. to casual/contract workers engaged by BSNL in UP Circle.

Ref: Your letter No. A-7(01)/2014 dated 15-06-2015 addressed to GM BSNL Allahabad/Varanasi/Basti/Deoria/Gorakhpur with copy to Sri V.A.N.Namboodiri, President, BSNLCCWF.

Sir,

I am much thankful for the action being taken by the ALC(C), Allahabad on the complaint addressed to the Hon’ble Prime Minister by me. In this connection, I would like to kindly place before you the following for immediate action in the matter.

You have been kind enough to address the GMs BSNL, Allahabad, Varanasi, Basti, Deoria and Gorakhpur asking them to pay the minimum wage and implementation of the connected labour laws. Neither the minimum wage is being paid to the BSNL contract workers, nor EPF, ESI are implemented. It is the same case with the other SSAs in the Circle including Pratapghar, Mirjapur, Jaunpur, Balia, Rae-Bareilly and Sultanpur.

I would request you to kindly direct these GMs also to implement the minimum wage and other connected labour laws.

Thanking You,

Yours Faithfully,

V.A.N.Namboodiri

President, BSNLCCWF Mob: 9868231431

Relentless war on wage slavery should continue

BSNLCCWF, Minimum Wage

“All official and liberal science defends wage-slavery, whereas Marxism has declared relentless war on that slavery.”
(Lenin, The Three Sources and Three Component Parts of Marxism (1913)
The BSNL Casual Contract workers are brutally exploited. In fact, in many places. it is almost wage slavery. Not even one third of the eligible minimum wage is paid. They are compelled to work 10 to 12 hours or more for the pittance. The contractors and in some places the local managements connive together to deny the due minimum wage and pocket the balance.
This should change. The casual and contract workers should get what is their due. There can not be any compromise in the matter.
Sustained struggle is the only way if the contractor/management violates the law of the land and deny minimum wage, EPF etc.
