Move to privatise MTNL, a warning to BSNL

The direction of the NITI Ayog to the government to privatise MTNL  is a warning to BSNL also. There are 29,000 employees in MTNL and about 1,75,000 employees and about one lakh contract workers  in BSNL.  What will happen if the PSUs are privatised? Not even half will be able to save their jobs.

It is not the time to mourn and sit idle. It is the time to act. Powerful agitations have to be organised with maximum propaganda amongst the people. Privatisation of these PSUs will increase the telephone / mobile bills of each and all at least 10 times of the present as per international rates. All those using mobile / telephone will suffer. It is the time to not only to organise the workers for action but to go to the people and get their help in avoiding a crisis. A big battle is ahead. ‘Do or Die’ is the slogan.

A meeting of All Unions and Associations of BSNL(AUAB) is held yesterday the 22nd March,2018, in FNTO’s office. Representatives of BSNLEU, NFTE, SNEA, AIBSNLEA, FNTO, SEWA BSNL, BSNLMS, BSNLOA participated. The meeting reviewed the developments that had taken place after the meeting with the Hon’ble MoS(C) that was held on 24th February,2018. It is observed that the government is moving fast to operationalise the Subsidiary Tower Company from the 1st of April, 2018, totally ignoring the strong opposition from the entire employees of BSNL. In view of this, the meeting decided to launch agitational programme to stop the same. Decision is taken to conduct “lunch hour demonstrations” on 27th March,2018, in front of Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi, as well as at circle and SSA head quarters, throughout the country. A memorandum, opposing the Subsidiary Tower Company will be submitted to the Hon’ble MoS(C) at Sanchar Bhawan. Same memorandum will be submitted to the respective CGMs and the state governors, to be forwarded to the MoS(C). CHQ calls upon the circle and district unions to successfully implement the call. The human chain programme organised by the All Unions and Associations in BSNL with the support of sister trade unions was a great success all over the country. The demand included the dropping of formation of tower company and immediate wage revision of the employees w.e.f. 1st January 2017. Tens of thousands of workers participated including the pensioners and the casual and contract workers. Congratulations to all the comrades.
The government should accept the demands failing which the workers will go on a two days strike on 12-13 December 2017.

BSNL employees on war path for wage revision.

BSNL, Wage revision

BSNL employees under the leadership of ‘All Unions and Associations’ in BSNL, has started a series of agitational programmes demanding wage revision from 01-01-2017 and also against formation of separate tower company. The second demand is for saving BSNL and the first is for doing justice to the hard working employees, who have flown the flag of BSNL high and strong.
THE FIRST PROGRAMME WAS ORGANISED TODAY, 16th OCTOBER BY HOLDING MASSIVE DEMONSTRATIONS IN FRONT OF BSNL OFFICES/EXCHANGES. Despite the anti – BSNL stand of the government and the cut-throat competition by the biggest corporate in the country, Reliance, BSNL continues to march ahead only with the whole hearted dedication of the workers and the management. The stand of the DOT and the Communications Minister denying wage revision is not acceptable. The justifications for the wage revision have been fully submitted to the DOT and government by the Unions and Associations.

The government should not forget that despite its decision to disinvest and sell shares of BSNL, it could not be implemented due to the strong opposition of the workers. It is the same with the VRS which the government wanted for one lakh workers. The latter completely rejected VRS. The government could not implement its decision to unbundle its copper cables before the strong protest of the workers. Though the management and the government tried to deny a decent wage revision to employees w.e.f. 01-01-2007, through continuous struggles, they could achieve the same. This is the glorious history of BSNL workers.

If the government/DOT/Management do not concede the demands, the entire BSNL workers will be on war path. Unity and further unity is required to win the big battle. If no wage revision takes place, the future of the existing employees, the present and future pensioners and the BSNL direct recruitees will be bleak. Hence not only the employees, but the pensioners also have to completely join the struggle being organised by the workers. Of course, the government need not wait for grant of pension revision to the BSNL pensioners on the basis of the III PRC, since the pension is fully paid by the government and not the BSNL.

STRUGGLE FOR UNITY, UNITY FOR STRUGGLE AND UNITY & STRUGGLE FOR ADVANCEMENT.

BSNL employees’ strong protest against formation of Tower Company

BSNL, Tower company

Throughout the nation, BSNL employees, as per the call of BSNL unions and associations, organized mighty demonstrations in front of their offices/exchanges protesting against the decision of the government to form a separate Tower Company by hiving away the 64,000 towers of the BSNL. This is part of the government conspiracy to disable and weaken BSNL and prepare for disinvestment or strategic sale as recommended by NITI Ayog.

The union leaders demanded the government to stop the process of forming the separate Tower Company failing which further united struggles will be organised. They said that they will never allow the government to dismember BSNL.

Private entry inside BSNL infrastructure – Oppose and defeat the sinister move

BSNL, Protest, Tower company

The DOT and the central government have always been moving to share the infrastructure of BSNL for the benefit of the private telcos. Years back, DOT gave permission to private telecom companies to construct/install their towers on the BSNL buildings. It was defeated by the workers by blocking the private telecoms from entering the premises and strong protest from the unions.

Next, there was move to unbundle the valuable copper cable all over India and share it with the private operators. A complete strike was organised and the DOT was compelled to give a written assurance that there will be no unbundling and no disinvestment.

Now the government has decided to form the Tower company, which will cripple BSNL and its revenue. Further, once the company is formed, it will be independent and will take decisions which will be completely in the interest of the private companies. It will be just like the priority given to private airlines in the routes ignoring Air India, the PSU. BSNL will get the least benefit from the new Tower company, which will be at the behest of the private companies as per the direction of the government.

The story of the Arab and the Camel, where the former was completely kicked out of the tent by the latter, will be the result. The united force of the workers saved our copper cables and in the same way we should be able to save our towers.

The decision of all the unions/associations to meet on 15th and discuss the issue and plan the course of action is timely. The government move to form the Tower Company should defeated at the initial stage itself.
