| New Delhi, December 15: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
Withdraw the HRD Order The Human Resources Development Ministry has taken yet another offensive and unjustifiable decision to ask CBSE and other government-run schools to observe “good governance day” on Christmas day, December 25. Already the Navodaya schools’ management have decided that the schools will remain open on December 24 and 25. This is a crude interference in the schedule of schools which go on Christmas vacation from December 24 and is an assault on the religious right of the Christian community. The Polit Bureau demands the withdrawal of this communally motivated instruction. If the government wants to observe “good governance day” on December 25, it should do so without involving the schools. |

Today’s Sunday Times (Delhi Edition) in its first page has exposed the gold greedy Kerala people. As per the report three finance companies in Kerala have got more than 195 tons of gold in their vaults, which is much more than the gold reserves of countries like Sweden, Singapore, Australia etc.
According to the report, Muthoot Finance has 116 tons, Manappuram Finance 40 tons and Muthoot Fincorp 39 tons of gold in their vaults. Singapore has got only 127 tons, Sweden 126 and Australia 80 tons of gold reserve.
The Malayali is much fond of gold and is happy showing off also. The gold ornaments worn by the bride and now bride groom also is beyond imagination. The yellow metal has become a status mark. The large number of cases of gold smuggling through flights give an idea that how much gold is being smuggled to Kerala.
It is not much different in other parts of the country also, may be to a lesser extent.
The Malayalis must have a rethink on their mad love for gold.

The first programme of action leading to the Indefinite Strike from 17th March 2015, demanding immediate action from the Government and Management for the Revival of BSNL was the observation of Demands Day on 11th December 2014 by organising Lunch Hour Demonstrations. The call was given by the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations of Non-Executives and Executives.
The reports received indicate that in almost all the places the demonstrations has taken place. It is well and good that the call has been implemented. Many comrades have sent the photos also.
Seeing the photos and discussing with the comrades, I feel that more is to be done. The comrades participating in the demonstration seem to be only a small part of the entire workers in the place. For example, if there are about 300- 400 workers, the number in the demonstration is around 50 or 60 and that too mostly active workers and leaders. Is this a sufficient number when we are preparing for a serious struggle? Certainly, NOT!
The most important part of any struggle is that it is participated by the entire workers or the maximum of the workers. THEN ONLY IT BECOMES REALLY EFFECTIVE. Hence we have to see participation of much more employees in our agitation. I agree that it will be very difficult to bring all the workers in the demonstration, but it is utmost necessary that at least the majority workers participate. It gives encouragement to all, that the workers have taken the struggle seriously. It is not correct to compare, but a look at the demonstrations and programmes being conducted by the Bank and Insurance Employees will show, how seriously their workers are participating in the joint programmes. It is possible for the BSNL Employees also to organise in the same way. Let us try to improve the participation of workers in each and every further programme.
‘DO OR DIE’ IS THE SITUATION – EVERY WORKER HAS GOT TO BE MOBILISED.
SAVE BSNL – SAVE NATION !

NEW DELHI: In the first major disclosure on black money, 339 Indians have been found to have stashed Rs 4,479 crore in Swiss banks, while domestic unaccounted wealth to the tune of Rs 14,958 crore has been traced, even as the SIT recommended stringent measures to check the menace.
The Supreme Court-constituted SIT has recommended amendments to laws to provide for confiscation of domestic properties of those with illicit assets abroad and making tax evasion of over Rs 50 lakh a ‘predicate offence’ or a serious crime to facilitate necessary action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The 13 recommendations made by the SIT also include imposing a threshold of Rs 10-15 lakh on holding and transporting cash to check the black money menace.
After probing into a list of 628 Indians, who figured on a list of account holders in HSBC’s Geneva branch that India got from the French government, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has said that prosecution has begun against 79 entities.
Out of these, no balance has been found in case of 289 accounts, according to a report of the SIT submitted to the court, portions of which were released by government on Friday.
“Out of the 628 persons, 201 are either non-residents or non-traceable, leaving 427 persons cases as actionable cases,” an official statement said.
While the total amount involved in these cases is about Rs 4,479 crore, the income tax department has finalized assessment for 79 entities involving 339 cases.
“An amount of Rs 2,926 crore has been brought to tax towards the undisclosed balances in the accounts relating to these persons,” the statement said, adding that taxes along with interest at applicable rates have been levied.
While suggesting steps like curbs on cash transportation beyond a level and mandatory quoting of PAN for cash and cheque payments over Rs 1 lakh, the SIT has flagged off mining, ponzi schemes, iron ore exports, misuse of export-import route as major areas prone to black money transactions.
The issue of black money has been a major political issue in India, including in the last Lok Sabha polls.
Incidentally, today’s disclosure comes at a time when Switzerland has indicted Herve Falciani, a former HSBC employee, who had leaked information related to thousands of bank account holders at its Geneva branch. He was charged on Thursday by the Swiss authorities for ‘industrial espionage, breach of trade and banking secrecy’. (Courtesy: Times of India)
