Delhi Government increases welfare schemes and increase in benefits to Construction workers.

it is reported tat the Delhi Government has increased the financial benefits of the construction workers, mostly migrant workers. The increase is in Assistance for education, marriage of daughters, maternity benefit, pension benefit, advance for purchase of house, loans, medical assistance etc. Most of these benefits has doubled or more.For example Maternity Benefit is increased from Rs.10,000 to Rs. 30,000; Marriage of daughters from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 51,000; Death benefit from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 etc. etc.

There are crores of construction workers in Delhi, migrant or other wise. The Delhi government has to ensure that not only announcement is made, but it is faithfully implemented.

PLR for Coal India Employees

Agreement has been reached between the Management of Coal India Limited (CIL) and the Central Trade Unions viz. INTUC, hms, BMS, AITUC and CITU for payment of Rs. 48,500 as Performance Linked Reward (PLR) for the year 2014-15 to the non-executive employees, considering the over all performance.

53 Historians issue statement against Intolerance in the country

53 top historians in the country including Professors Romila Thapar (New Delhi), Irfan Habib (Aligarh Muslim University), M.G.S.Narayanan (Kozhikode),K.N.Panikkar (Thiruvananthapuram), have expressed their extreme unhappiness at the increasing intolerance in the country and requested for an atmosphere allowing free expression of thought.

This is a strong indictment of the communal tension being created and against the murders of intellectuals who expressed their opinions on various issues, which the fundamentalists could not digest.

More and more such condemnations  against the intolerance in the country are required.

International Conference of TUs of Telecommunications

The International Conference of Trade Unions of Telecommunications, IT and Call Centers concluded in militant spirit. The conference next to the exchange of experience from the struggles of the workers from countries such as Spain, Kazakhstan, Turkey, France, Austria etc, talked about the problems and the important challenges that face the militant trade unions. Issues that were highlighted were the imposition of the anti workers’ policy of the EU, Europe 2020, which is specified in Telecom through the “Digital Agenda 2020”, the attack against the right to Strike, the new forms of Strike Breaking mechanisms (eg “Digital strikebreaking”), obstacles in trade union organization, new dangers for the health of the workers due to intensification of work, and others.

The congress ended into specific action plan, initiatives and campaigns for the organization of the workers in the sector and with the formation of a Coordinating Committee by the trade union organizations PAME (Greece), Cobas (Spain), USB (Italy), DevIletism Is (Turkey), Left Bloc (Austria), AST (Spain).

In the Congress intervened on behalf of WFTU Matthieu Bolle Reddat, who underlined in his speech that for the WFTU and its affiliates, the role of an International Trade Union Organizations is to serve the interest of  its members and the workers struggle. To materially and morally support the organizations of the working class in struggle against the policy of the monopolies without concessions or compromises with the capitalist class. The duty of an International Trade Union Organizations is to strengthen the solidarity between workers of all countries, to help raise the level of struggle in defence of their rights and the accomplishment of new.

United Nations Resolution to end embargo against Cuba

The resolution condemning the U.S. embargo against Cuba has won overwhelming approval, with only the United States and Israel voting against it. Tuesday’s vote had the highest ever number of countries voting to condemn the embargo — 191.

Women Communist leader elected as President of Nepal

A Communist leader who has long campaigned for women’s rights was elected on Wednesday as Nepal’s first female President.

Bidhya Devi Bhandari of the Communist Party of Nepal Unified Marxist-Leninist received 327 votes against her opponent’s 214 in the Parliament on Wednesday, Parliament Speaker Onsari Gharti announced.

Ceremonial head

The President is the ceremonial head in Nepal while the Prime Minister is the nation’s leader.

Ms. Bhandari (54) is the deputy leader of the party led by Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli, who was elected earlier this month and leads a coalition government. The new Constitution adopted last month required Nepal to name a new President.

Ms. Bhandari is an active campaigner for women’s rights in Nepal and was among the politicians who campaigned for ensuring women’s rights in the new Constitution. The document says one-third of the members in parliament have to be women and either the President or Vice-President must be a woman.

Leading poitical figure

The new President has been a leading political figure since her husband Madan Bhandari, who was then leader of the party, was killed in a still unsolved car accident in 1993.

She also led many demonstrations against the then King Gyanendra in 2006 that finally ended his authoritarian rule and restored democracy.(AP)

Chhattisgarh Circle Conference has been held at Gass Memorial Centre, Raipur on 28-10-2015 with massive participation of pensioners.

Com.V.A.N. Namboodiri,Advisor inaugurated the conference with an enthusiastic and elaborate speech covering  almost all the issues of the pensioners,particularly the current position of 78.2% IDA merger and the efforts being taken by the CHQ. Com.K.G.Jayaraj, General Secretary in his address emphasised the need to strengthen the organisation at all levels to face the bigger challenges ahead. Com. R.S.Bhatt, Circle Secretary, BSNLEU, Com.Mahapatra (CITU), Com.S.C.Bhattacharjee, Convenor,Forum also addressed the conference. Com.R.L.Shrivatava, Circle President presided. Com.R.P.Atmapoojya, Circle Secretary welcomed the gathering.

In the subject session Com.R.P.Atmapoojya ,Circle Secretary and Com.Lala Dhani, Treasurer presented the report and accounts respectively and was adopted after discussion and reply by the Circle Secretary. 11 comrades participated in the discussion on organisational issues.
