Central Executive Committee of BSNL Employees Union, held at New Delhi on 24-25 November 2015 has demanded the BSNL Management to start the wage revision process. In Banks, LIC etc. five year wage revision has started / agreement reached. The DPE has agreed to issue instructions for forming of III Pension Revision Committee for executives of the PSUs.

Mobile Towers will be erected on buildings including Parliament – Minister

Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has stated that in order to improve the quality of telecom services, mobile towers will be erected on buildings including Parliament. He stated that one has already been erected on the Parliament Annex building. According to him the radiation issue is a myth.

He also stated that BSNL has installed over 25,000 BTS over the last one year and 6,000 more are being erected, which will improve BSNL services. (Source: Business Line 26-11-2015)

‘Implementation Cell’ formed for VII CPC Recommendations

The Government has appointed an ‘Implementation Cell’, headed by a Joint Secretary level officer in the Department of Expenditure for a period of one year w.e.f. 20th November 2015. The cell is entrusted with the task of  processing and implementing the accepted recommendations of the VII CPC. (Source: Business Line 26-11-2015)

Rs.1,250 Crore USOF Subsidy for BSNL released by DOT

At last, as per reports, DOT has released the Rs. 1,250 crore USOF subsidy allotted for BSNL for the year 2012-13. This is in lieu of ADC, which was stopped earlier. Although the amount was allotted by the USOF two years back, it was not paid to BSNL on flimsy grounds.

Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations has been continuously demanding release of the same, since BSNL in big financial problem. At last, now the same has been released. BSNL can utilise the same for procurement of equipment.

GDS Committee formed

The government has appointed a one man Committee to look in to the wages and other matters connected with the Gramin Dak Sewaks. Shri Kailash Chandra, former Member of the Postal Board, is the one man committee.

The demand of the NFPE and Confederation of central Government employees was that the VII CPC itself should look in the issues of the GDS also. It was rejected and the one man committee has been appointed.

SC asks Vodafone to pay Rs. 2000 crore to Govt for licence merger

The Supreme Court has directed telecom company Vodafone to pay Rs.2000 crore towards fee for merger of licences. This order is issued on the basis of the appeal filed by DOT.

Govt. proposes to sell ITDC Hotels

The  Modi government is on the move to sell 8 more ITDC hotels. Already many of the ITDC hotels have neen sold by the earlier NDA government under Prime Minister Bajpai.
Tourism is growing and all the star hotels are making profit. The ITDC hotels are being made loss making and being sold.
Protest against these looting.

“Great Leaders of P and T TU Movement” Released

The Book ” Great Leaders of P and T T cleardot(1)U Movement” authored by Com. V.A.N.Namboodiri, Patron BSNLEU, was released to day in the Central Executive Committee of BSNL Employees Union being held at Delhi, by presenting  copies of the book to BSNLEU President Com. Balbir Singh and General Secretary Com. P.Abhimanyu. Today, 24th November 2015, is the 61st birth anniversary of the great National Federation of P and T Employees (NFPTE) which led the P&T workers for a long period and organised the historic struggles of 1960, 1969, 1974 etc.

The book contains the life sketch of Babu Tarapada, Henry Barton, V.G.Dalvi, B.N.Ghosh, K.G.Bose, N.J.Iyer, K.Adinarayana, O.P.Gupta and Moni Bose, 9 great leaders of the P&T Trade Union movement.

BSNLEU CEC Meeting at Delhi

BSNL Employees Union Central Executive Committee started at New Delhi today at 10.00 AM. The CEC was inaugurated by Com. Hemalatha, Secretary, CITU, who called upon the BSNL workers to continue the struggle against the anti- worker policies of the government. The report to CEC was presented by GS Com.P.Abhimanyu. Discussion is continuing by the Circle Secretaries and Office-bearers. CEC will continue tomorrow.

Com.V.S.Menon Passed away

Com. V.S.Menon, a stalwart leader of the P and T employees and former Secretary, NFPTE, passed away on 7th January 1994 at Ahmedabad after a severe heart-attack. He was 75. He was suspended in the 1949 strike and detained in jail for a long time. After reinstatement, he was promoted and retired as Divisional Engineer. He continued to be in contact with the union and gave all help and guidance and also worked in the Pensioners Association. Mrs. Vimala Menon, his wife, also passed away within  three hours of his death.

Resolution of the Co-Ordination Committee of Trade Unions on Telecom Sector

A meeting of the representatives of Central Trade Unions, Apex Trade Unions and Office Associations of five important sectors, Financial Sector, Public Sector Enterprise, Electric Power Sector, Oil Sector and Telecommunications, was held at New Delhi on 27th and 28th January 1994 and analysed the prevailing situation due to the implementation of the neo-liberal policies and the attack on the public sector and especially the ore sectors. It called upon the workers, the intellectuals, the Members of Parliament and political parties to raise their voice against the denigration of the Public Sector and to demand the government to strengthen, instead of weaken, the public sector. It called upon the employees and the masses who would bear the brunt of the adverse consequences to resist all such attempts of the government which compromise with the sovereignty of the nation in terms of its  economic independence, self-reliance and national security.

A separate detailed note on each sector was appended for the study of the workers and prepare for struggle. E.III Union actively participated in the meeting, discussion and drafting of the resolution. It was a move to educate the workers on the coming danger.

All India Conference of T.III  and Administrative Unions

In the All India Conference of T.III Union held at Pushkar, Rajasthan on 5-8 October 1993, Coms. V.A.Harsulkar and P.S.Raman Kutty were re-elected as President and General Secretary.

The All India Conference of Administrative Union Class III and IV, held at Calcutta from 5-8 October 1993 elected H.G.Ramachandra as President Pabitra Ranjan Chakraborty as General Secretary. (To be continued)
