Fleecing the public in time of plight should stop.

It is reported that the flight charges from Chandigarh to Delhi and vice-versa was increased to Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 or so, four to seven times, during the Jat agitation in Haryana. This is nothing but looting the public and unethical profiteering utilising the plight of the people. These airlines are just like the black-marketeers and thugs. This should stop. The government should take strict action against such looting.

Disinvestment of PSUs continue – Now it is NTPC

Tags

, ,

The government has decided to further disinvest NTPC by 5%, with the idea of getting about Rs. 5,000 crores to reduce its deficit. 412.2 million shares are proposed to be sold at the rate of Rs. 122 per share. The share of the government in this prestigious and profitable PSU will be reduced from 74.96% to 69.96% after the sale.

The government has already sold shares of Oil India Limited, Container Corporation of India, NDMC, MMTC and ITDC in this fiscal garnering Rs.13,277 crore.

‘Disinvestment’ is a negative process and the word itself is negative. Hence the government and finance experts have started using another word for it, ‘Divestment’.   But whether the negativeness of disinvestment will go if the word is changed to divestment? NO!

NPA – Corporates take advantage of the PSU Banks

Tags

,

In the recent days, a lot of criticism is placed on the Public Sector Banks (PSBs) for the huge Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) or the bad loans which are not recovered. These bad loans come to about an average of 6-7%, something more or less, in the PSBs, which creates financial problems to the concerned banks. These are known to all. And the PSBs are criticised for this by government, public and the big business.

Certain questions naturally come to our minds:

  1. Who are these individuals or companies who have not re-paid these huge loans taken years back? Neither the government nor the banks disclose the names. It means that these are very influential persons/companies and not ordinary persons.
  2. Who are the persons/companies who guaranteed these loans? Why not disclose their names?
  3. What action has been taken to recover the loans? Whether court proceedings have been initiated?
  4. Why the government and the PSBs are not putting the names of the defaulters in public? Will it not shame them so that they will be compelled to pay the loans back?

The answers to these questions will reveal certain facts. Who are all involved in these cheating of the Public Sector Banks. The government and the Banks have got the responsibility to reveal all these information so that the public is aware of the same.

This looting of the Public Sector Banks should be stopped.

Thanks, Ahmednagar / Maharashtra Comrades!

Along with CHQ BSNLEU comrades Swapan Chakraborty, Dy.GS, S.Chellappa, AGS, R.S.Chauhan, Org. Secretary and T.A.Biju Office Secretary, me and my wife reached Ahmednagar on February 16th noon to attend the CEC of BSNLEU. We left Ahmed Nagar in the evening of 21st February 2016 after the CEC  was over.

During all this time, from the reception at the Railway Station till saying good bye, the Ahmed Nagar and Maharashtra comrades were there to make everything easy. Whether at the Conference Hall,  or at the time of food, they were always there to help us. It was just like you were with your family. And always the presence of senior comrade and Advisor Reception Committee, Appa Saheb Gagare was there. Others were not behind.

The surprise came after General Secretary Com.P.Abhimanyu had completed his summing up and the President Com. Balbir Singh was to make his concluding speech. The Reception Committee leaders came to the stage and honoured me and my wife Pankajam (who is a BSNL Pensioner) with shawls, bouquet etc.  I felt a bit embarrassed but, I understood that they loved us and this was an expression of the same.

I express our  sincere thanks to and appreciation of the dedicated service of the Reception Committee comrades for making the CEC a complete success. Maharashtra Circle Secretary Com. Nallwade and CHQ AGS, Com. John Verghese ensured that there is nothing massing in making arrangements.

My heartfelt thanks to the Reception Committee  and Maharashtra Circle comrades!

Why BSNLEU is always the First in Membership Verification

Tags

,

An examination of all the membership verifications of non-executive unions conducted in BSNL since 2002, it can be seen that BSNL Employees Union is the only union which has been the recognised union since the II verification. It was a surprise that despite thousands of employees retiring every year, it increased the membership for many years.

Why BSNLEU is increasing its strength continuously which no other union is able to do? the following are some of the reasons:

  1. BSNLEU upholds the working class ideology. Since 1991 Bhopal AIC where Coms. VAN Namboodiri and Moni Bose have been elected as President and General Secretary respectively, a big change has come in the telecom unions. The reformist ideology which the earlier leadership has been imposing has been replaced by the forward, progressive and working class ideology and the workers are happy. After formation of BSNL Employees Union, it continued the great tradition of K.G.Bose. The majority of the workers have taken BSNLEU to their hearts.
  2. A trade union has as its most important task, the settlement of issues of the workers, big or small. BSNLEU since its inception has been implementing this responsibility with success. Whether it is wage revision, promotion or any other issue, BSNLEU has taken the issue and settled.
  3. BSNLEU is part of the national and international  working class. It is affiliated with CPSTU and has implemented all the calls given by the Central Trade Unions since its inception. It is affiliated to Trade Union International (Public Services) which is part of the World Federation of Trade Unions(WFTU).
  4. BSNLEU always function democratically from top to bottom. Conferences and committees are held in time and democratic discussions take place. The opinions of the members and functionaries are given importance and acted upon.
  5. As long as this connection with the workers is maintained, no union can defeat BSNLEU.

About 14 lakh Pensioners in Railways

Tags

, ,

According to an RTI reply, there are 13,75,483 Railways Pensioners at present, out of which 2.86 lakhs  are in the range of 80-90 years old. The total number of pensioners in Railways are liable to be more than the existing workers. This is mainly because, the retirements are more comparing to the new recruitment. This is the condition of most of the central government establishments. It was reported earlier that while there are about 40 lakh CG employees, the pensioners number is around 52 lakh.

In order to improve the services, fresh blood is required and there should be adequate recruitment. There should be strong pressure from the unions for increased recruitment. The ban on recruitment should be rescinded. It will result in jobs for the youngsters who are jobless. Is the government hearing?

EPF interim interest rate at 8.8% says Minister

Although the EPFO has recommended 8.95% interest, the government is trying to fix at 8.8% as interim. This is not acceptable. The Central Trade Unions had demanded 9.5% interest which should be granted. Any how, there can not be any reduction from 8.95%.

Lerft Parties’ Memorandum to President

New Delhi, February 19: Leaders of Left parties met President of India today and handed over the following memorandum.

Respected Rashtrapatiji,

We, the undersigned, strongly condemn the attack launched by the RSS-BJP against the Left and all other democratic and secular forces in the country. It is clear that by spreading the canard of being “anti-national” the RSS-BJP have mounted an all India attack against the Indian people.

While strongly condemning the attack mounted by the RSS under the patronage of this BJP-led NDA government against the Jawaharlal Nehru University, we, the undersigned, see this as part of a larger design by the communal forces to carry forward their agenda in institutions of higher learning. This systemic pattern is clearly visible in the incidents in Film & Television Institute of India, Hyderabad Central University leading to the tragic suicide of Rohit Vemula, the incidents in IIT Chennai and now in Jadavpur University.

It is clear that the RSS-BJP are mounting an open attack on the democratic and constitutional rights of the people. Further, such attacks are part of the efforts to sharpen communal polarisation in the country.

We, the undersigned, demand that the JNU Students Union President, Kanhaiya Kumar must be released and all cases of sedition filed against students must be withdrawn forthwith. No harassment and witch hunting must be allowed. The truth has now come out that most of the evidence produced by the government was fabricated. Those who have fabricated the evidence and propagated it, must be punished under the law.

We, the undersigned, request the Hon’ble President of India to immediately intervene to defuse the situation and prevail upon the Indian government to withdraw from this dangerous course that it has adopted.

We are appealing to you, as the custodian of the Indian Constitution, to urgently intervene  to defend the people’s Constitutional rights that are being trampled upon today.
