Saigon, the capital city of Viet Nam, was named as Ho Chi Minh City on 2nd July 1976 in honour of the great revolutionary leader and former President of Viet Nam, Ho Chi Minh, under whose leadership Vietnam came free from the French. The mighty war machinery of the US was humbled by this small communist country, though the suffering caused by the attack of the US continues.
On this day we remember the great contributions made by Ho Chi Minh not only to the Vietnamese people, but to the entire world.

All India Insurance Employees Association (AIIEA), the mighty organisation of the employees of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), completes 65 years of dedicated service to the employees and the nation. From the time of its formation on 1st July 1951, it has marched ahead on the correct working class line and had always made all out efforts to make LIC, a service orientated organisation. With more than 80% of membership in LIC, AIIEA will continue its efforts to improve the services as also improve the status of its workers.
I have close connection with the AIIEA for more than 50 years. In the Foundation Conference of BSNLEU at Visakhapatnam in 2001, Com.N.M.Sundaram, then GS of AIIEA, was present and inaugurated. In most of the AIIEA AICs, GS BSNLEU was invited. Myself had the opportunity to attend many of these conferences, including the Delhi AIC. In forming BSNLEU in many centres, AIIEA has given all help to us.
Best Wishes and Revolutionary Greetings leaders and workers of AIIEA on the 65th anniversary of foundation day of AIIEA!

The Postal Card was introduced in India on 1st July 1879 and has completed 137 years of excellent service to the common people. Though introduced in 1869 in Austria-Hungary and followed by other European countries, it took ten years to reach India. The first Indian Postal Card was issued with a price of quarter Anna.
The Postal Card or Post Card as it is called now, is still the cheapest form of postal communication with only a cost of Paise 50. It is simple, cheap, takes less place (one third of the other postal articles on an average) and is used in a big way, though its use is gradually coming down.
There were many prominent persons, who mainly used postal cards for their communication. Comrade E.M.S.Namboodiripad and Com. C.Achutha Menon, both former Communist Chief Ministers from Kerala, were two of these. I still have some of the replies received from them in postcards.
Let us hope that this cheapest and convenient form of communication does not become history in this era of revolutionary communication systems, as happened to the Telegram/Telegraphs.

New Delhi, June 30 : The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The pay hike for Central government employees announced by the Central government has been disappointing. Based on the Seventh Central Pay Commission’s recommendations, there is only an increase of 14.2 per cent in the emoluments in terms of gross salary and the increase in the take-home pay is just 7.4 per cent for the lowest category. The Central Government has deferred the decision on the revision in allowances.
The ratio between the lowest and the highest scale continues to be wide with the ratio being 1:14.
It is unfortunate that the government did not consider it worthwhile to have discussions with the employees’ organizations before making the announcement on salaries and pension.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that the government hear the views of the employees organizations in the matter and on that basis to make a revised announcement.
