The strike which was called by the Confederation of CG Employees was completely successful in all the states.

Rallies, dharnas and other programmes were also organised on the strike day. BSNLEU, AIBDPA, BSNLCCWF and other sister organisations extended solidarity and support and participated in the dharnas, meetings etc.

Our Hearty Congratulations to the CG Employees for their Glorious Strike!

Aggressive push for ‘Labour Reforms’ – Central Labour Minister

Tags

, ,

Central Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya has stated that ‘ all political parties must support the labour reforms’ being brought by the government. This statement gets most significance, especially that it is made after the massive win for BJP in UP assembly elections.

The government wants that the existing 45 or so labour acts should be reduced to 4 labour codes in the name of simplifying the labour acts. But in fact, it is much more. The government proposes to address the concerns of the employers who want the labour laws to be amended to suit their requirements including ‘hire and fire’. Many of the social security benefits, won by the workers through hard struggles and by the intervention of judiciary, are being trampled upon by the employers and now they want the acts and rules to be amended to suit them.

The Central Trade Unions have strongly opposed the anti-labour amendments and protest actions including strike have taken place. But the government is moving with its anti-labour agenda. Of course, it is the government of the corporates and will give most importance to their agenda. It is pertinent to point out here that more than 75 % of the BJP MLAs elected now in U.P. are crorepatis.

The working class has to unitedly fight these anti-worker moves of the government.

Lakhs of Central government employees, as per the call of the Confederation of CG Employees and Workers, are on strike today, 16th March 2017, protesting against the denial of Minimum Wage, adequate fitment in pay, restoration of various allowances etc. They are also protesting against non-implementation of promises by the Central Government, on which the indefinite strike was deferred last year. A government which does not keep its promises given to its own employees have lost all credibility.

The strike has started with massive participation. State government employees’ organisations, PSU organisation and others have extended full solidarity and support to the fully justified strike.

National Council meeting postponed

It is reported that the National Council meeting of BSNL is postponed from the scheduled date on 17th March 2017 since the Chairperson Director(HR) is indisposed. BSNLEU has demanded for an early meeting. It is hoped that the meeting will be held shortly.

Incidentally it is to be mentioned that no meeting of the National Council had been held for about 10 months ie. since the last the membership verification last year. This is most unfortunate.

‘Not much has changed since Ambedkar’s time’ – P.Chidambaram

‘Not much has changed since Ambedkar’s time’, lamented former Finance Minister and a top leader of the Congress party at the release of the book ‘The Essential Ambedkar’ by Planning Commission Member Balachandra Mungekar.

His observation will not be disputed by any body. Even after almost 70 years since Independence, the condition of the SC/ST has not changed much. But who is responsible? It is not only the present Modi Government or the earlier Vajpai Government alone, but mainly the Congress Government which ruled the country for more than five decades. The Congress Party needs a self introspection in the matter how they ignored the justified issues of the SC/ST population for their entire period of government.

117 workers acquitted in Maruti Manesar Strike case

Gurgaon Court on 11th March 2017 has acquitted 117 workers, while convicting 31, in connection with the violence in the factory premises four years back, which resulted in the death of one Manager. The violence has broken out when the management tried to bring blacklegs to defeat the justified strike of the Maruti workers.

In connivance with the Suzuki management, the Haryana Government arrested about 150 workers and implicated them all in the case. There was no trial for years and all of them were kept in jail. Even bail was not granted to most of the workers. The central trade unions organised protest actions against this brutal attack.

At last, the judgment has been delivered convicting 31 workers, while acquitting 117. In fact there was no case against them at all. It was only to terrorise the union and the workers that the case continued for so long.

It is also to be noted that all the office-bearers of the union are implicated in the case and they are the people convicted. The powerful Maruti Management and  the Haryana Government are part of this conspiracy. There is no doubt that the Trade unions will file appeal against the conviction.

Our full support and solidarity to the Maruti workers and their union for their heroic struggle.
