‘God Men’ are not above law of the land.

The punishment of 20 years jail sentence delivered against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the self styled God man and head of Dera Sacha Sauda, for sexually assaulting his devotees, is fully justified. The judge who delivered the judgment is to be appreciated for his fearlessness and firm decision. The Haryana Government and the BJP have to answer for the lives of about 30 people who have been killed and the huge loss of properties including cars etc. during the riots by the followers of the god man, since they did not make any suitable security arrangements, even though they were fully aware of the exploding situation. The Haryana Chief Minister Khattar should resign or he should be removed.

The misleading name ‘Neo-Liberal Policy’

Tags

Calling the policy being implemented by the capitalist governments during the last three decades, especially after the collapse of the USSR, is usually called the neo-liberal policy. India is following the same policy.  It is neither liberal nor new. It is a misleading name to misguide the people.

It is really a Corporate centred, reactionary, anti-people and  anti-worker policy. It can not be called ‘Neo-liberal policy’. It is only liberal to the capitalists, the ruling class and the corporates.

Idea to pay 3 crore for overcharging subscribers.

The TRAI has ordered telecom company Idea to pay Rs. 2,97, 90, 173 crore as penalty for overcharging subscribers for the calls ending to BSNL and MTNL during the period May 2005 to January 2007.  The amount is to be deposited in Telecom Consumers Education and Protection Fund.

Many such irregularities have been done by the private companies to discourage the subscribers from calling to BSNL and MTNL in the past. At least now, Idea has been penalised, although the amount is much less than what is required.

Sack Haryana CM – CPI(M)

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its serious concern over the violence that has crippled the state of Haryana resulting in the death of over 35 people and serious injuries to over 250 persons.

Supporters of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect went on a rampage after their chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in a rape case by a CBI special court. These supporters were converging at Panchkula where the CBI Special court is located for the past few days in anticipation of the verdict.

Despite having this knowledge and widespread apprehension of trouble and violence the BJP Government and the Chief Minister of Haryana did not take adequate preventive measures. This serious dereliction of duty by the State government created a situation of complete break down of Law and Order.

Earlier it was reported that the Chief Minister and the BJP MLAs visited, this ‘godman’, to seek his blessings. This reflects the sympathetic manner in which the BJP sought to deal with the situation.

This is the third occasion when the BJP State government has failed to protect the lives of innocent people and damage of public and private properties. It happened in the controversy over Rampal Case, the Jat agitation and now this development. Clearly the State Government in Haryana has lost its authority to continue. Even the Haryana High Court had directed the State Government to take all required measures. It expressed apprehensions regarding the state government’s track record in the past. The state government was warned not to repeat such mistakes.

The Haryana State Government and the Chief Minister cannot remain in office and the Chief Minister must be immediately sacked.

CPI(M) welcomes SC judgment on Privacy.

CPI(M) PB has issued the following statement:

“The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) welcomes the Supreme Court verdict that the right to privacy is a fundamental right protected under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. In an unanimous decision the nine-member Constitution Bench headed by the Chief Justice of India overruled the earlier judgements on this issue in the M P Sharma and Kharak Singh case that held that right to privacy is not a fundamental right.

This landmark judgment should pave the way to protect, in this world of technology advance dominated by corporates, misuse of private data and infringing upon the privacy of individuals.

A separate five-member bench will decide on the issue of mandatory Aaadhar that this government is pushing through.”

‘Right to Privacy is a Fundamental Right’ – Supreme Court

‘Right to Privacy is a Fundamental Right.’ ‘It is intrinsic to right to life’.

The historic judgment of the Supreme Court delivered today will have far reaching consequences. The right of the individual which is being trampled upon by the corporates and the government, has been restored in law, by the highest judiciary of the country. The constitution has been upheld.

A RESOUNDING VINDICATION – Pinarayi Vijayan discharged from the False case

CPI(M) PB has issued the following statement

The Kerala High Court judgement is a resounding vindication of the stand taken by the CPI (M) that the Lavalin case was a politically motivated case. The Kerala High Court has upheld the judgment of the trial court discharging Com. Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC Lavalin case.

The High Court has stated that Pinarayi Vijayan was deliberately targeted by the CBI. The Court has comprehensively debunked all the allegations levelled against him.

The Lavalin case was sought to be used to besmirch the image of a leader of the CPI(M) and the Party. The High Court verdict has effectively exposed these efforts.
