President Obama, Sanctions against Iran, US Congress

US President Barak Obama has stated that if the Congress brings bill for tough sanctions against Iran, he will veto it. The opposite Republican Party has majority in the Congress. The Congress is expected to press for tough sanctions against Iran.
Attributing the tough sanctions on Iran for bringing Tehran on the negotiations table, Obama threatened to veto any Congressional bill that imposes new sanctions on Iran as talks of curtailing the latter’s nuclear weapons programme continue.
“The sanctions that we put in place helped make this
opportunity possible. But let me be clear: if this Congress
sends me a new sanctions bill now that threatens to derail
these talks, I will veto it. For the sake of our national
security, we must give diplomacy a chance to succeed,” he
said.
So far, so good. After the agreement, if more sanctions are issued it will be a breach of agreement. Further it will create more tension, which the world people want to be reduced.

55th Anniversary, Cuba, Fidel Castro, Revolution

Cuba is a small island in the Latin American / Caribbean Islands. Its population is 1.1 crore, much less than the population of Kerala. But Cuba is well known over the world. Why?
Not only because it is a Socialist Republic. This small country won freedom from its oppressors and invaders through guerilla warfare; the Cuban Revolution became successful and Republic of Cuba came in to being on 1st January 1959.
Cuba had to face attack from all sides, including from the United States, its big neighbour and the leader of imperialism. The economic Blockade against Cuba continues for decades headed by US, despite the opposition of the vast majority of the world nations.
During the last 55 years, despite all these adversities, Cuban Revolution has given its people one of the best governance, including housing, food, education etc. Cuba is world number one in health care and most of the countries in Caribbean gets free medical training in Cuba.

Cuba celebrated its 55th Anniversary of the Victory of Revolution on the 1st January 2014. It is still headed by the leaders of the 1959 revolution. Of course, Fidel Castro, the legend in his own time, has handed over the Presidentship to Raul Castro, who is also one of the revolutionaries who stormed in to Santiago along with Fidel in 1959. Che Guevara, the Eternal Revolutionary, who left his Cuban Ministership and moved to Bolivia to free the country was killed in the deep forests of Bolivia.

Cuba was alone in its fight against US imperialism at first. Now after 55 years of the Revolution, most of the Latin American / Caribbean countries are against US. This is a great achievement. The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) is fighting against imperialist policies. A meeting of the CELAC has started on 27th January at Cuba which mourned the death of one of its great leaders, Hugo Chavez. The CELAC meeting is continuing.

The Cuban Revolution survives and advances inspiring the entire world. My Revolutionary Greetings to Cuba and its people!

” Revolution is challenging powerful dominant forces within and beyond the social and national environment…It is defending the values which are believed at the cost of any sacrifice….It is the profound conviction that there is no force on earth capable of crushing the power of the truth or ideas..” – Fidel Castro

“The Revolution continues to be the same, without commitments to absolutely anyone, only to the people.
“The Revolution has triumphed without any commitments to absolutely anyone, beyond the people, who are solely responsible for all of its victories”. – Raul Castro Ruz, President of Cuba.

The United States biotech giant Monsanto says it respects people’s rights to express themselves, but that its genetically-modified seeds improve farm productivity and food quality.
The US Senate rejected a bill making it compulsory to label GM foods. Some consumers are worried about possible health risks.
Demonstrations against the company took place in over fifty countries on Saturday. Organisers say two million people took part.
“People have a right to know what they’re eating, most people do think that they have the right, but those rights will never be upheld as long as corporations can spend unlimited amounts of money to influence the outcomes of elections,” said one protesters in Kansas.
“They have no right to mess with our food, you don’t turn food into a lab experiment,” added another.
The ‘March Against Monsanto’ Movement was started in February.
There are also arguments that genetically-modified crops can harm the environment. (Courtsey: Ganashakti)

S and P downgrades European Countries – France and Austria lose AAA status

15 Sunday Jan 2012

The global recession is on. This time it is the 9 European countries that have been downgraded by the global rating agency, Standards & Poor, from their present rankings. France and Austria, the ratings of which were AAA, have also been downgraded. The other countries which are demoted are Italy, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia.

This is a big blow to France which is going to have election shortly. The downgrading will have serious implications for the Euro economy.  It may be remembered that the ratings of US was demoted from AAA+ last year after the global economic crisis.

One after another, the capitalist countries are facing the inevitable crisis that is the integral part of the capitalist system.

President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela lashes at super powers led by US

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez lashed out at the world powers’ hostile and aggressive policies towards the world nations, and described his country and Iran as “victims of superpowers’ greed”. “Unfortunately hegemonic powers are more aggressive than the past and show unprecedented movements foolishly,” Chavez said on the sidelines of ceremony to welcome his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The Venezuelan president underscored that the Iranian and Venezuelan nations are victims of the superpowers’ greed, but are introduced by hegemonic powers’ propaganda machine as warmongers.
Chavez noted that Tehran and Caracas have never invaded any country but some other arrogant states have killed thousands of thousands of peoples in their invasions and nuclear bombardments.
“Nations advocate peace and justice; Iranian and Venezuelan governments will do their best to support the human rights, their countries’ sovereignty as well as international peace,” he reiterated.
President Ahmadinejad, for his part, underlined that Tehran and Caracas are resolved to defend their rights against hegemonic powers.
“Tehran and Caracas will stand together against the hegemonic powers’ greed to dominate the world and would defend their rights,” Ahmadinejad said.

African National Congress celebrates 100 years of glory

09 Monday Jan 2012

African National Congress (ANC), the present ruling party of South Africa, is celebrating its 100 years of existence in a very grand way. ANC was formed at Bloemfontein , with the aim of fighting for the independence of the country from the British imperialists. It got inspiration from the non-violence struggle launched by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, when he was practising in South Africa. It is coincidal that Gandhiji returned to India on this day (9th January) in  1915.

The ANC  turned to armed struggle as part of the independence struggle by 1960s. Nelson Mandela, the unquestioned leader of the ANC and other top leaders were arrested and kept in jail for decades and was released only after strong international pressure and other compulsions. SA got independence in 1994.

The leaders of the African National Congress like Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Oliver Tambo and others sacrificed their entire lives for the freedom of their country. On the celebration of the 100th years of formation of ANC, I convey my Best Wishes to the people of South Africa!

Stephen Hawking, the great physicist and a medical marvel, is 70

08 Sunday Jan 2012

Posted by VAN NAMBOODIRI in WORLD NEWS

Defying the odds of medicine, Stephen Hawking, widely regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists, celebrated his 70th birthday on Sunday.

The Lucasian professor of mathematics and theoretical physics at the University of Cambridge has 12 honorary degrees. But aside from his academic achievements, the professor is also something of a medical marvel.

He has long defied and baffled medical experts who predicted he had just months to live in 1963 when he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a deadly disease.

Only five per cent of people with the form of MND that he has — a condition called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s disease — survive for more than a decade after diagnosis.

The fact that Mr. Hawking, Britain’s most celebrated physicist, has lived for nearly half a century with a condition that progressively attacks the nerves serving the muscles of the body has been described as remarkable.

“I have been lucky, that my condition has progressed more slowly than is often the case. But it shows that one need not lose hope,” Mr. Hawking says.

“I am quite often asked: ‘How do you feel about having ALS?’

“The answer is, not a lot. I try to lead as normal a life as possible, and not think about my condition, or regret the things it prevents me from doing, which are not that many,” the BBC quoted him as saying.

Currently Director of Research at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge, where he also founded the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology, Mr. Hawking previously (1979-2009) held the Lucasian Professorship of Mathematics at Cambridge, a post once held by Isaac Newton.

Although he has now stepped down from the Lucasian chair after a historic 30 years, he continues working at the University of Cambridge and recently published a new book — The Grand Design.

The grandfather-of-three continues to seek out new challenges.

Mr. Hawking recently experienced first-hand what space travel feels like by taking a zero-gravity flight in a specially modified plane. (Courtsey : Hindu)

Revolutionary Greetings to Cuban people !

01 Sunday Jan 2012

Cuban Revolutionary Army declared Cuba as a Republic defeating the imperialists on the 1st of January 53 years back in 1959. The revolutionaries under Fidel Castro. Che Guevara and others had to wage a grim guerilla warfare to defeat the imperialists to free the country from their clutches. During the last 50 and odd years Cuba under the leadership of Fidel Castro made gigantic steps in bringing socialism near to the people braving the inhuman economic and military blockade and all enemical actions of the imperialist countries headed by US.

I greet the valiant people of Cuba and hope that they will continue their march towards socialism.
