107th ILC: Speech of Quim Boix, Secretary General of the WFTU TUI Pensioners, presented to the Plenary Session
07 Jun 2018
Receive a greeting from Pensioners and Retirees from all over the planet.

I speak to you on behalf of the only global organization that groups them.

We are united by the same just demands, analyzed from a class perspective, which is to say, as Karl Marx analyzed, from the reality of the confrontation of social classes that capitalism generates.

We know that the audience, in the annual Plenaries of the ILO, is, as long as we do not change it, made mainly of defenders of capitalism as a system. But this system goes from crisis to crisis (which are structural and systemic, that is, inescapable) until its final crisis.

We are supporters of socialism, which will be the future in all countries of the planet, even if pro-capitalists try to delay this change. The experience of the former socialist countries has made it possible to learn from the mistakes made and for that reason the second stage of extension of socialism will be the final one.

While we do not recover the advantages of socialism for the majority of human beings, we will continue to organize ourselves within capitalism.

Today I can announce that we are going to hold our Second World Congress of Pensioners and Retirees class organizations, at the beginning of next year, in a country in Latin America. In this area of the planet there are large organizations, with millions of members, who defend Pensioners from class positions.

We have already organized the Pensioners in the 5 continents and we have already demonstrated our ability to fight in defense of our just demands with several actions coordinated worldwide.

We will continue supporting the Pensioners and Retirees in the struggles, country by country, so that in the end all the legislations will recognize that every person over 60 must receive a pension that ensures a dignified life, that is, with potable water in a habitable dwelling, with sufficient healthy food, and free public attention to the needs of health, culture and local transport. And this regardless of whether the pensioner quoted sufficiently during the period of active life as a worker. If you did not quote it was your fault, those who run capitalism, who did not give you the job you asked for. You, the pro-capitalists, prefer that there are millions of unemployed people in order to lower wages, based on the false “laws of the market”, which are only applied to those who do not own the means of production. On the other hand, to the owners of the means of production, you grant them all the advantages and subsidies (tax havens included). By “you” we mean the managers of capitalism, the owners of the multinationals (representatives of whom there are many in this room), those who extract the benefits of this exploitation, very well analyzed by the Marxists. But little by little the majority of the population will stop voting for political parties that promise one thing and do the opposite. The lie is the basis of the false bourgeois democracy, and although for decades it has been deceiving the voters, that will soon end.We know that there is enough wealth on the planet to ensure that pensions are paid by the budgets of the states. It would be enough by stopping allocating 2% or more of the Gross Domestic Product of the capitalist states to wage war (as it’s been ordered by NATO) and to allocate those resources to facilitate a dignified life for all the people in the world. We pensioners are on track to be 30% of the voters and from our class organizations we are going to ensure that no vote goes to political parties that defend capitalism. We are going to transmit to the new generations our important experiences of struggle against the exploitative businessmen. In these experiences there are the achievements of the working class, in the past decades and thanks to the WFTU, achievements that have represented great improvements: holidays, labor rights, safety at work, public health and education, as well as pensions. In addition, we have more than 100 years of experiences of good functioning of labor rights in the countries that tried to build socialism. Today, its inhabitants regret having lost the individual rights they enjoyed for decades and will surely enjoy again in the future, when we end the exploitation of man by man.Know that pensioners and retirees will fight, alongside the working class, for our just rights, until the last day of our lives.

LONG LIVE THE WORKING CLASS!LONG LIVE THE WORLD FEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS!LONG LIVE SOCIALISM!LONG AND DIFFERENT LIFE FOR PENSIONERS AND RETIRED!

The WFTU President addressed the plenary session of 107th International Labour Conference on Monday 4 June 2018
04 Jun 2018GENEVA, ILO, SWITZERLAND
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the World Federation of Trade Unions I salute this plenary session, the delegates of Trade Unions and workers of all countries.

From this podium, we express our internationalist solidarity with the people of Palestine who are suffering hard from the Israeli occupation and we condemn the new cold-blooded murders of unarmed Palestinian people in Gaza by the Israeli army. We condemn the moving of US embassy in Jerusalem; to us, Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine.

At international level, for one more year the financial situation of workers and their living conditions are very bad and in full mismatch with their life-giving contribution to the society.

The austerity measures that were implemented in the name of the economic crisis take a permanent character in all the countries of Europe and western world, in the form of pension and salary cuts and workers’ rights withdrawal. The rivalries between strong monopolies of different countries are increasing and trigger imperialist interventions, as the recent one in Syria, financial wars and sanctions that have direct consequences in the life of ordinary people of those countries. The wars that took place in countries like Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria aim at the exploitation of these countries’ natural resources by the strong capitalist countries; it’s them who shed peoples’ blood and create entire “armies” of uprooted people, refugees and immigrants.

In the African countries, in many countries of Asia and Latin America, the workers are suffering the lack of dignified work. There is no health and safety measures in their workplaces, there is no health coverage, drinking water, sufficient food, prevention for diseases like AIDS etc. The unemployment and insecurity especially in youth and women deny their right to life with dignity.

In this framework, the World Federation of Trade Unions supports the struggles and the initiatives of the workers who resist in France, India and shows its solidarity with the sugarcane workers in Latin America, the teachers, everyone who is struggling in every corner of the planet. We stand on the side of the people of Venezuela, of Cuba, on the side of peoples who fight against imperialists.

During the 73 years from its establishment, the WFTU dedicates its action to the defense of the workers rights, the strengthening of the class-oriented trade union movement at global level and to the practical expression of the internationalist solidarity. The observance of the International Conventions of the ILO is important for ensuring the fundamental rights and trade union freedoms of the workers, but what is also needed is constant vigilance and class struggles, against monopolies and their devastating policies for the workers.

We call upon the persons responsible in ILO to take into account the long-standing WFTU demand for more democratic and transparent operation of their institutions.

The WFTU will firmly continue it’s upward militant course, the organization of international activities for the present and future of the workers, for stable work, without imperialist wars, without xenophobic and neo-racist phenomena.

We give our hand to every worker, regardless of his/her color, religion, sex, language to stand with us, united in struggle against the imperialist barbarity.

WFTU strongly condemns the murder of 12 protesters in India

The WFTU strongly condemns the murder of 12 protesters in India
23 May 2018ASIA, INDIA
The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing more than 92 million workers in 126 countries of the 5 continents strongly condemns the murder of at least 12 protesters who demanded the closure of the copper smelter of «Sterlite Copper» company. The company is an affiliate of the British monopoly “Vedanta” in southern India.

The protesters demanded the cancelation of the Sterlite-Copper’s plant opening which has been shut for more than 50 days and will remain closed until at least June 6 because the local pollution regulator did not allow it to operate due to environmental reasons.

Once again bourgeoisie ranks the people’s health and life lower than its profits and the riot-police defended these profits by murdering workers. The WFTU demands the definitive closure of the plant and the immediate punishment of the responsible ones for these murders.

WFTU condemns the new USA and Israel aggression in the Middle East

13 Sunday May 2018

The World Federation of Trade Unions, gathering in its ranks more than 92 million workers in 126 countries all over the world, follows the recent developments concerning the withdrawal of the U.S.A. from the international nuclear agreement on the nuclear program of Iran and the announcement of new economic sanctions against Iran by the U.S.A. The U.S.A. once more uses false pretexts in order to exploit the natural resources of other countries and to serve the interests of national large monopoly groups.

These actions, combined with the missile attack of Israel against Syria on May 10, are a new form of aggression against the peoples of the Middle East that put them at great risk and further destabilize the situation in the region.

We call on the workers, the ordinary people of the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East to strengthen their struggle against the imperialist plans and interventions that cause wars and misery to the peoples for the profits of the imperialists.

LONG LIVE THE MAY 9th 1945, the Victory Day of Soviet Union over Fascism and Nazism!

08 Tuesday May 2018

On May 9, 1945, in occupied Berlin by the Red Army, the Nazis signed their
surrender to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, putting an end to World War II
or the Great Patriotic War.
On June 22, 1941, the Nazis invaded Soviet borders and arrived at the gates of
Moscow mobilizing about 4.5 million soldiers with the support of 600,000 vehicles, 750,000 horses and about 2,700 aircraft (more than half of the German air force). Forced to retreat because of the resistance, the new Nazi strategy aimed at taking
control of Stalingrad, where in July 1942 the most cruel and violent battle of the
whole war began. The Red Army and the armed people resisted against the conquest of every block, every street, every house, every room. Workers’ militias were formed. One of the
stages of this heroic struggle was the tractor factory where the workers entered the
fight against heavily armed invading troops. On February 2, 1943, Stalingrad was
liberated. When the Red Army was already advancing to the capital of the Nazi state, Hitler
commits suicide, on April 30 and May 9, 1945, the Germans accept the surrender
to the Soviets. This was a decisive strategic victory for the future of mankind. It changed the global
correlation of forces in favor of workers and peoples and has boosted national
liberation movements and decolonization. It was on this historic track that, on
October 3, 1945, the World Federation of Trade Unions was founded. However, 73 years after that date, the threat of a new World War hovers over
international relations. US imperialism and its allies of the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) promote conflicts that seriously threaten world peace and
make, in old and new forms, fascism and intolerance grow in various forms. The WFTU salutes the anniversary of this epopee by reaffirming its commitment to
the defense of world peace, the rights of the peoples, in particular the working class
while being convinced of the socialist perspective as the future for humanity. Long live the 9 of May of 1945, Victory Day of the Soviet Union over Fascism and Nazism!

MAY DAY 2018, WFTU

May Day 2018: With Internationalism and Solidarity!!
17 Apr 2018
1 MAY, MAY DAY

The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) in the name of its more than 92 million affiliates all over the world salutes, on the occasion of this great day, all the workers who live, work and struggle in every corner of the world. May Day was, is and will be a beacon for the struggles of yesterday and tomorrow despite our enemies’ efforts. May Day has to be a message of resistance against bourgeoisie, imperialists and their international alliances’ policies.

At the same time, the workers’ blood which was shed in Chicago on 1886 reminds us of our duty today; it reminds us that nothing is given for free; every right or freedom that was conquered by our class has been won through sacrifices, conflicts and organized struggles.

Today, whilst technology and scientific progress have contributed to the increase of the produced social wealth, our class’ living conditions have been deteriorating. In every capitalist country, the bosses attack our class achievements: they are sweeping through salaries, pensions and social security; they are privatizing everything, they don’t hesitate to attack even the sacred right to strike! Strike is the most powerful weapon we have in our hands and we are not going to allow anyone to limit, confine or convert it to a dead letter!

At the same time, they are intensively preparing and conducting regional wars. They pave the way for new massacres that will maximize their profits, for new imperialist interventions that will destroy nations, spill peoples’ blood and deprive them of their natural resources. The ongoing imperialist intervention in Libya and Syria, the growing aggression against Venezuela, the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the massacre of Saudi Arabia against Yemen, the tension on the Korean peninsula, they are all indications that multinationals have smelled new profitability areas; and every time this goes through the dead bodies of workers.

Under the current conditions of the deep economic crisis of capitalism and intense competition among various imperialist centers to control new markets, our most powerful weapons are INTERNATIONALISM and SOLIDARITY. No worker must feel alone. All together, we must move on with Solidarity and Internationalism, building the Unity of the working class to give practical effect to Karl Marx’s motto “proletarians of all countries unite”.

In this context, and on this anniversary, the WFTU expresses its solidarity with our persecuted brothers, the immigrants and refugees, who either because of imperialists’ bullets or because of poverty and misery generated by this system, are forced to leave their homeland. The WFTU will continue to be on their side, fighting for a world without exploitation and refugees. Immigrants must become an integral part of unions, unite with local workers and fight together for wages, rights, against wars and interventions.

We join our voice with the heroic Palestinian people in order to gain their own independent and democratic homeland.

At the same time, we stand by the side of the struggling female worker, the one who suffers from double exploitation. The WFTU female members, at the recent World Women’s Congress in Panama, declared loud and clear that they want equal rights to work, society and life. The WFTU also fights and will continue to fight for this equality. It’s the same orientation that we follow for the the youngsters, as the new generation of workers have the task to honor the best May Day struggle traditions.

This year, the WFTU, by giving its hand to anyone who has stood up, has announced the year of trade union education and training. Our purpose is that the new shifts of workers be insubordinate, militant, enemies of class compromise and collaboration. We honor the year of trade union training and we call on every union to contribute to the militant truth, revealing the true meaning of May Day and the sacrifices the working class made for it. By rescuing the past, the very memory of our movement, we leave a legacy for tomorrow’s struggles and we also have a tool for the future. It is a duty to know the history of our movement.

The WFTU takes steps forward, strengthens and grows: and that’s what frightens our opponents. There is no other way than to make it present everywhere, in every corner of the world, so that there is no longer a hungry, dismissed, hunted or persecuted worker. The WFTU must be a “trench” of struggle for a future without exploitation of man by man. This is how the vision of the first Secretary General of the WFTU, Luis Saillant, envisioned in 1945 will be brought to life: “The WFTU for the workers of the whole world!”

LONG LIVE MAY DAY!

General Strike in Greece on Friday January 12, 2018

10 Wednesday Jan 2018

Posted by VAN NAMBOODIRI in WFTU, WORLD NEWS

PAME, the central union of Greece has called upon the entire workers to organise a strike on 12th January 2018 against the anti-workers decisions of the government, cutting the wages etc. The Circular issued by PAME is given below: AIBDPA support and extend solidarity to the strike.

“PAME Calls the Unions, the National Federations, the Regional Trade Union Centers to join the Strike
action all over Greece against the new antiworkers’ bill forwarded by the Government on Friday January
12.
Against this new attack PAME has called for General Strike on Friday, January 12. Dozens of
National Workers’ Federations, Regional Trade Union Centers and Trade Unions have already
responded to the call.
The GSEE-ADEDY (members of ETUC in Greece) and their unions have refused to call for Strike, so
as to give time to the Government to abolish workers’ basic rights.
The new bill includes a series of antiworkers’ measures (abolition of any protection of
workers’ homes so as to be auctioned by the banks, new taxes, etc) as well as imposition of new
laws on trade union action and organization aiming to ban our right to go on strike.
The class trade unions are organizing a series of actions to strengthen workers’ response to the new
attack and prepare massive participation to the strike under the Slogan “Hands off! From our Right to Go
On Strike”
On Tuesday January 9 the class unions of Athens held a militant demonstration and protest to
the Ministry of Labour. When the Minister of Labor refused to meet with delegation of the class unions
the workers entered the Ministry with force, hanged banners to the building, naming it “Ministry of
Employers-European Union and IMF” and not of the labor. The protest forced the Minister to meet with
delegation of the Unions, who demanded the cancelation of the bill that bans workers’ right to go on
strike. The Minister refused to withdraw the bill and slandered the class unions.”
