Save FACT Bandh

Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) is the major Public Sector Company in Kerala, which produces fertilisers and chemicals like ammonium. The FACT was started in 1943 by the Maharaja of Cochin, but later converted to PSU. This was giving sterling performance for many years. But due to the neo-liberal policies being implemented by the Central as well as the present UDF government in Kerala, the company is in loss and is in a critical situation.

A “Save FACT Action Committee” formed to rejuvenate the FACT, including all trade unions and political parties. The Committee has called for a Bandh today at Ernakulam and the same has been fully successful.

The Central and state Governments should immediately take necessary action to save the FACT and make it a profitable company as before.

Oppose Back-Door Privatisation of SBI – CITU

CITU, Protest, Reliance, SBI

CITU has issued the following statement on the SBI- Reliance Agreement:

It is reported that the State Bank of India (SBI) has signed up Reliance Money Infrastructure (RMIL), an Anil Arnbani Group company, in a ‘business correspondent’ deal to source a range of banking services. The deal authorises RMIL to identify borrowers; collect, process, and submit loan applications; promote credit groups.take up post-sanction monitoring, follow-up, and recovery. As the service provider, RMIL will also collect small-value deposits; sell micro-insurance, mutual fund and pension products; and receive and deliver small-value remittances. According to the report the deal which was concluded on February 25 this year had been made effective with retrospective effect from October 5, 2013.
This is nothing but backdoor privatization of the basic segment of the banking operation in the leading Public Sector bank like SBI– the core area of lending, recovery and also a part of deposit collection work.

We fear that this strategy now started with SBI will make inroads in other nationalized banks. The outsourcing is being done to agencies controlled by the largest monopoly house which had been named by the CAG in a recent scam, having a clear conflict of interest striking at the root of the very purpose of bank nationalization. Moreover, the Reserve Bank of India has blacklisted many of the service providers engaged by AXIS BANK, HDFC BANK etc., in the recent past, mainly because these agencies breached the trust of the banks that have engaged them.

The amendment of banking regulations carried out in a UPA-NDA joint operation inside Parliament has allowed a big number of private banks to enter into the field. The present move of outsourcing core lending cum deposit related jobs in nationalized banks is complementary to the former and the project is one of privatization of the entire banking operation and economy. This will be disastrous to the national economy, which could survive the global financial crisis primarily due to the nationalized banks. This also exposes the real intent of the Congress and BJP policies in favor of corporate cliques, both domestic and foreign.

Centre of Indian Trade Unions opposes any move to privatise the Public Sector Banks in any form. This move must be resisted tooth and nail. The CITU extends full support and solidarity to the Bank Employees Federations in their struggle against this move. We call upon the people in general and working class in particular to oppose this atrocious move by the SBI.

TDSAT allows roaming by sharing of spectrum

3/4G, penalty, Spectrum, TDSAT

The Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate tribunal (TDSAT) has allowed 3G roaming services to the private operators, even though they do not have spectrum licence for those circles. The TDSAT has also cancelled the penalty imposed on these private companies who were illegally providing roaming services in areas where they have no spectrum licence, by sharing agreements with other private companies who have spectrum in those circles.

We feel that this decision of the TDSAT is to be challenged since this is in violation of the licence conditions. Further this decision will give undue favour to the private companies comparing with BSNL, which was compelled to pay for all the circles in full.

V.I.Lenin

220px-Lenin22nd April is the Birth Anniversary of Com. V.I.Lenin, the architect of the historic 1917 October Revolution in Russia, which resulted in the formation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), the first socialist state in the world. He was the Prime Minister  of USSR since 1922 till his death on 21st January 1924. But he was the most important leader of the country as also the General secretary of the powerful Communist Party of the USSR.  He died at the age of 53, having born in 1870.

Lenin during his leadership of the USSR brought revolutionary changes in the society. He was both theorist as well as practical in implementing the socialist path. Implementation of Marxism in the concrete circumstances in Russia/USSR resulted in unprecedented growth in all spheres. His concept and explanation of Marxism is called as Leninism.

He is considered as one of the top most Marxists the world has ever seen.

My Red Salute to Com. V.I.Lenin on his 144th Birth Day Anniversary.

Corrupt Congress will face worst ever defeat’ – Prakash Karat

13 Sunday Apr 2014

Chennai, Apr 12 CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat today claimed Congress was poised for its worst ever defeat in Lok Sabha polls due to its ‘corrupt’ regime and wrong economic policies, but said BJP would be worse than the UPA in implementing “neo liberal” economic policies.
UPA was the “most corrupt” regime since independence and people had already decided to vote it out. “A severe punishment is awaiting Congress in the polls,” Karat told an election rally here, campaigning for party candidate Vasuki in North Chennai Parliamentary constituency.
Lashing out at UPA for the various scams, including the 2G spectrum one, and the economic policies, he said such policies, including deregulation of fuel prices, led to steep increase in the prices of all essential commodities.
Assailing the tax concessions to industry which, he claimed, were to the tune of 21 lakh crore rupees in the past five years, he alleged Congress policies enriched the rich corporates to make “super profits” even while it cut down subsidy on food and fertilisers.
Hitting out at BJP and Narendra Modi for harping on the Gujarat development model, he said such a model only served to be a “laboratory for Hindutva which led to relegation of minorities to second class citizens”.
Another aspect of this model was giving tax concessions and free land and power to corporates to enable them make super profits, he charged.
“If Narendra Modi comes to power, a much worse situation will emerge where super exploitation and looting of the country by the corporates will take place. The BJP is worse than the Congress in implementing neo liberal policies,” Karat said.
Only the Left parties offered an alternative policy as there was no difference between the BJP and the Congress in their economic policies, he said.
Stronlgy criticising the DMK for extending an olive branch to the Congress, he said the “DMK is not going to a new direction..It is in no way breaking with its past and it is fully discredited due to its role in graft in the UPA”.
Pointing out that both DMK and AIADMK had aligned with either the BJP and the Congress to serve their “narrow interests”, he asked why Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was silent about Modi and the BJP.

BSNL National Council will meet on 23rd April 2014

BSNL National Council

The National Council Meeting, wherein the Recognised Unions and the BSNL Management will discuss issues of the employees and Management, will now be held on 23rd April 2014, instead of on 22nd April. The change has been made to suit the convenience of  the Chairman of the Council, Director (HR) BSNL.

This is the second meeting after the VI Membership Verification and the constitution of the new Council. Workers are happy that the management is holding the meeting in time, as requested by them.  But the Standing Committee which is to be held after the last meeting to review implementation of the decisions in the National Council has not been held so far. In fact, the Standing Committee is yet to be constituted.

It is expected that the present council may be more effective since there are two recognised unions. But it is yet to be proved, since only one meeting has been held and the results are yet to come.

The demand of the unions that the Chairman of the Council should be the CMD and that all full time Directors should be members of the Official Side  is yet to be accepted by the management. It is to be pointed out that  in the National Council of the CG Employees, Cabinet Secretary is the Chairman and the Secretaries of various Departments are members. It was same with the National Council in Department of Telecom, where the Chairman was Secretary, DOT and all Members of the Telecom Commission were Members of the Council. This helped in taking many decisions in the Council itself. In the present National Council of BSNL, decisions are taken very less and even the decisions taken are sometimes declined by the Managing Committee / BSNL Board. Thus the sanctity of the decisions are  lost.

The Unions as well as the Management should work together to make the functioning of the NC effective so that quick decisions are taken and implemented which will benefit both the company and the employees.

Rs.195 Crores seized by the Election Commission.

08 Tuesday Apr 2014

A PTI report which is reproduced below states that Rs. 195 crores have been seized by the Election Commission during this election period. This amount is certainly intended to be given for purchasing votes. This will be only a small part of the total such purchasing-cash. It once again shows that the election is trying to be changed in to just like another corruption case. Such misdeeds should be caught and exposed.

New Delhi, Apr 7: Over Rs 195 crore of cash has been seized so far by Election Commission (EC) appointed teams, with Andhra Pradesh topping the list.

According to official data prepared till today, the EC-appointed Election Expenditure Observers have so far seized a total of Rs 118 crore cash in Andhra Pradesh, Rs 18.31 crore in Tamil Nadu, Rs 14.40 in Maharashtra, Rs 10.46 crore in Uttar Pradesh and over Rs 4 crore in Punjab including numerous other small seizures in rest of the states.

Also, the total liquor seized stands at 26.56 lakh litres, Heroin 70 kgs while 11,469 FIRs have been registered against distribution of cash and illegal inducements in various states.

A senior official, part of the EC-appointed team, said the 659-officer strong surveillance teams drawn from IRS and other central services have been deputed to all the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies and they are reporting cash seizure instances since the polls were declared on March 5.

The Commission, as part of its measures to curb blackmoney and illegal funds in the polls, has deployed the ‘expenditure observers’ drawn from central revenue services like the Income Tax and Customs and Excise departments.
