26-05-2015, All India Convention of Workers

As per the decision of the 11 Central Trade Unions, a National Convention of Workers will be held at Mavlankar Hall, New Delhi. In addition to the representatives/delegates from the CTUs, delegates from the All India Federations of employees from many sectors like Central/State government employees, Railways, Defence, Postal, BSNL, Banks etc. will participate. It will be addressed by the leaders of the Central Trade Unions.

The Convention will review the programmes of action organised in the past on the 10 Points Demands raised by  the CTUs covering almost all major issues of the working Class and against the attack on them. It is also expected that the Convention will declare the next programme of action, probably a strike,  against the anti-working class policy of the Modi Government.

It is commendable that despite different ideologies and political background, all the Central trade Unions have been jointly continuing with sustained struggles for the cause of the working class, irrespective of which government is in power. This should continue.

Anti-Labour laws, Protest

The NDA government is all-bound to change the labour laws to suit the requirements of the employers. The corporates have been putting pressure on the governments continuously for the same during the last many years. The NDA government is aggressively implementing the same.

It is proposed by the government to bring “Industrial Relations Code Bill 2015” which is to amend the three  earlier acts viz. The Industrial Disputes Act 1947, The Trade Union Act 1926 and The Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act 1946.

According to the new Bill, the companies with up to 300 workers need not take government permission for lay of retrenchment etc. At present the limit is 100 workers.

Vast majority of the companies in India will be covered by this bill and hire and fire will become law, The workers will not get any remedy except compensation.

The Central Trade Unions have already opposed the move. This will be one additional reason for the continuous struggle by the Central Trade Unions.

CITU Protests against suspension of Rs. 1,000 Minimum Pension.

EPS, Minimum Pension

New Delhi, Apr 10 The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today registered a protest against Employees Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) move to suspend the minimum pension of Rs 1000 and asked the NDA government to continue with the scheme proposed during the previous dispensation.

The UPA government had taken the decision to increase the minimum pension to Rs 1,000 for pensioners and widow pensioners under the Employees Pension Scheme 1995.

But, the retirement fund body’s has decided to suspended the minimum monthly pension scheme from this month, which will hit about 32 lakh pensioners.

“EPFO has issued circulars putting on hold the minimum pension. The CITU registers its strongest protest against this action of EPFO and Government of India,” CITU President A K Padmanabhan said in a statement.

Padmanabhan said the NDA government had in September 2014 decided to go ahead with implementation of the UPA dispensation’s scheme, but only uptil March 2015. The scheme sought to hike the pension amount to a flat Rs 1,000 per month for those who were getting lower amount earlier.

“Trade unions had at that time itself objected to this, pointing out that this limited order will be used against workers by stopping it at the will of the government. But, Government had assured it will not be stopped.

“The circular issued now by EPFO has raised serious concern among workers and pensioners on the intentions of the government, as it comes in the background of various retrograde changes proposed in EPF Schemes by it,” Padmanabhan alleged.

He asked the Centre to immediately issue orders for continuing with the minimum pension scheme.

The CITU also urged trade unions, workers and pensioners organisations to raise their voice of protest against this “unwanted” delay in the issuance of orders for continuation of the minimum pension.
