BtRanadiveToday is the 110th birthday anniversary of one of the top militant and revolutionary leader of the working class, Com.B.T.Ranadive. He was born on 19th December 1904.

Balchadra Trimbak Ranadive was a bright student and passed MA with distinction. He joined the Communist Party  in 1928 and also became a leader of the All India trade Union Congress at Bombay. He actively participated  in the Bombay Girni Kamgar union and Railways Unions. He supported the Navy mutiny and organised solidarity strike in support of the Naval mutiny.

He was elected as President of the CITU and continued till his death. He was also elected to the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). A militant leader, he guided many struggles of the working class, including government employees. He was married to Com. Vimal Ranadive, herself a staunch trade union leader. Com. Ahilya Rangnekar, the leader of the heroic struggle of the Adivasis and a CPI(M) leader, is the sister of Com. BTR. All of them have passed away. Com. BTR passed away on 6th April 1990.

I had been fortunate to be in contact with Com. BTR for a long time connected with the P and T trade union activities. He had attended the Conferences of P and T unions at  All India level as also in the Kerala Circle Conferences. His guidance and advice in the trade union activities were inspiring.

On his 110th birth anniversary, my respectful homage to Com. B.T.Ranadive. We pledge to continue to tread the path shown by him.

Red Salute to Com. BTR !

5th December 2014, National Protest Day

Crores of workers all over the country is observing today, 5th December 2014, as National Protest Day as per the call of the 11 Central Trade Unions and the independent Federations of Central, State, Public and Private Sector trade unions. The workers are protesting against the anti-worker, anti-people policies of the government and focusing the 10 point demands raised by them, including putting a stop to the spiraling prices of essential commodities, a minimum wage of Rs. 15,000 to contract workers and No to disinvestment and privatisation.

Demonstrations and Rallies will be held in all centers jointly by the trade unions. In Delhi, the rally will be held at Jantar Mantar which will be addressed by central trade union leaders.

This is a warning to the central government which is trying to curtail the hard earned rights of the workers and moving fast to sell the family silver of the people to the corporates and the MNCs.

Let us all participate in the programme and make the National Protest Day a big success!

Parliament March, Postal Workers

The Postal Joint Council of Action, including both NFPE and FNPO along with the concerned GDS Associations have decided to organise a Parliament March on 4th December 2014, demanding settlement of long pending issues.

The government has been completely ignoring the demands of the Postal workers and also that of the Gramin Dak Sevaks (former ED Employees). Hence the Parliament March.

We fully support and express solidarity to the programme!

Air india, Air India - Indian Airlines Merger

The staff and HR issues connected with merger of Air India and Indian Airlines are still pending. Many strikes were organised both by the employees of AI and IA, whose promotional and other HR issues were affected. A court case is also pending in the Supreme Court.

These are a batch of cross appeals both by the Air India management and buy the various employees’ unions. The Supreme Court on 1st December heard the case, but did not give any decision on the request of the unions for interim relief. The Court stated that ” There has to be a practical way out. Any order should not be harsh on your employer (Air India) also”. (Courtesy  : ET)
