Keluettan

Today, 20th May 2013, I went to the Com. Keluettan Study and Research Centre, Calicut  to participate in the observing of the 22nd death anniversary of Com.M.K.Kelu, the veteran and popular leader of CPI(M) , who passed away on 20th May 1991.

After the Centre President Com.K.T.Kunhikannan presented the opening remarks, I was asked to speak. I spoke briefly about the simple and comradely living and working of Keluettan and some of my valuable experiences with him.

Com.Keluettan was a comrade completely dedicated to the Party, Comrades and the people. His entire life was an open book. He has sacrificed everything for the party and faced jail, arrests, physical attacks by police and all kinds of harassments, but he always stood his ground undaunted. I have the experiences of about three decades with him through which I learned and absorbed many valuable lessons. Sometimes in the future, I may put them in writing.

I pay my respectful homage to Com.Keluettan on this day. Red Salute to Com. Keluettan!

Com.Moni Bose

It is rather difficult to accept the reality that three years have passed since Com. Moni Bose left us forever. It was on 19th May 2010 that Com. Moni Bose breathed his last. This 19th May 2013 is the death anniversary of our dear comrade, who was in the forefront of the P&T Trade Union movement for a period of six decades, even before the formation of NFPTE in 1954.

After the death of the legendary revolutionary leader Com. K.G.Bose, it fell on the shoulders of Com. Moni Bose, his younger brother, to lead the fight against the revisionist leadership in the Telecom Unions. Almost for four decades, I had the opportunity to work closely with Com. Moni and especially after the Bhopal All India Conference in 1991 in which I was elected as President and he as General Secretary. In 1994 at the Thiruvanathapuram All India Conference he was elected as President and myself as General Secretary. The years of the 1990s, when we were together at Delhi Central Head Quarters, were a turbulent period when each and every day was a struggle to exist against the attack from the Government as well as the revisionist leadership of the NFTE. Com.Jyotsna Bose, wife of Com. Moni Bose, who was also at Dada Ghosh Bhawan, fully shared the difficulties.

The struggles waged years after years resulted in strengthening the union and after formation of BSNL, BSNLEU became the sole recognised union since 2004. BSNLEU continues to be the majority union even after the VI membership Verification.

Com.Moni Bose, thougherminated in connection with the 1949 proposed strike, continued with the P and T trade union movement till the last. His sacrifices and dedication to the movement is well-known to all.

On the third death anniversary of Com. Moni Bose, I remember his great contribution to the trade union movement and pay my Revolutionary Greetings! Red Salute to Com. Moni Bose!

Karl Marx - Death Anniversary

Today is the 130th Death Anniversary  of Karl Marx, one of the greatest philosophers the world has ever seen. He is the author of Communist Manifesto and Capital (4 Volumes) (along with Friedrich Engels) who expired on 24th March 1883. He analysed capitalism and explained that it is a stage in the development of the human society, but not the last and the ultimate. It is an interim  stage in the forward march to socialism and then Communism. Marx was born  on 5th May 1818 in a rich Prussian (Germany) family and was well-studied. He had to run from country to country since the authorities were afraid of his revolutionary theories. In his last phase of life he was staying in London continuing his research and writings using the vast collection of books at British Library. After the present global recession, his writings have become a matter of serious study.

When I went to London, I had the opportunity to visit the High Gate cemetery where he is laid at rest and paid homage to him. What is written on the tomb is relevant for all times: “Workers of the World Unite!”

I pay my respect and Revolutionary Greetings to one of the greatest revolutionaries of all times – Karl Marx !

KCS Nair

Com.K.Chandrasekharan Nair, popularly called KCS Nair, passed away on 7th of this month. He was ailing for some time and was in hospital for the last few days. The sad news was informed to me by our comrades in Calicut, where Com. KCS has settled after retirement a few years back.
Com.KCS was a man of action. As soon as he entered the P and T, he had been in the union and very active. For a long period he was the Branch Secretary of the DET Office, Calicut. After the 19th September 1968 strike, he was under suspension for a long time, faced court case and punished for participating in the strike. During the post-strike period he worked continuously without any strain. We were closely associated for a long period in union activities.
After coming to Delhi after the 1991 All India Conference, I had little chance of meeting him. However, twice, I went to his house and met him. He also used to attend the meetings when I came to Calicut. His health was deteriorating gradually. And now death has overtaken him.
I share the deep grief with the family and friends. I convey my heartfelt condolences to his wife, children and other family members.

Homage to Hugo Chavez! – CPI(M)

Hugo Chavez - Venezuela

The Press Statement issued by the PB of CPI(M) on the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is given below:
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep grief at the passing away of Hugo Chavez Frías, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Chavez died after battling cancer for nearly two years.

Hugo Chavez was an epic figure who symbolized the radical transformations taking place in Latin America. He was elected for a fourth term as President just six months ago with a big margin. The Bolivarian revolutionary process which he initiated enabled Venezuela to take control of its destiny by asserting national sovereignty and control over all the vital resources of the country including oil and gas. In the one and a half decades of his presidentship, the Venezuelan people got health facilities, education and literacy as never before. Poverty was drastically reduced.

Chavez was set on taking his country towards socialism. For this, he received the mandate of the people by winning successive elections democratically.

The death of Hugo Chavez is a big blow to Venezuela and for the Left and progressive forces of Latin America and the world. But his ideas and the path that he chose for Venezuela will endure.

At this hour of grief, the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) conveys its heartfelt condolences to the daughters and family members of Chavez, to the entire people and government of Venezuela.

Long Live Hugo Chavez!

Hugo Chavez - Venezuela - Revolutionary

Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela and the revolutionary and popular leader died today at Caracas after a two years battle with cancer. he was 58. Chavez was the President of Venezuela for uniterrupted 14 years winning all the elections despite many conspiracies by the US and other imperialist countries to defeat him.He had only returned a few days back from Cuba after continued treatment for cancer. He had 4 operations for cancer in the last two years. Vice-President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela announced the death in a televised speech.”It’s a moment of deep pain,” he announced in a choking voice.
Chavez was one of the most popular leaders the world has ever seen and his death will devastate millions of his followers who adored him, his people-friendly decisions, nationalisation of MNCs including oil companies and also subsidized food and free health clinics in the country side. His death will be mourned by the entire world.
I also express my deep grief at the sad demise of this Great Socialist leader and convey heartfelt condolences to the people of Venezuela in their great loss!
Red Salute to Com. Hugo Chavez!
