Insurance (amendment) bill

Shri P.Chidambaram, Finance Minister stated that the Insurance Bill will not be taken in this winter session of Parliament. So far so good.
The Left Parties and the Insurance workers under the leadership of AIIEA have been continuously protesting against the proposed bill since the intention of the bill is to allow the MNCs to come to this sector in a big way with more FDI which is against the interest of the nation and the nationalised life insurance and general insurance companies.

Of course, there will be a big fight in the budget session if the bill is moved.

gang rape - attack on women

The Nation is shocked and outraged on the gang-rape in the bus in Delhi and the brutal attack. The girl is in the most serious condition in hospital. Delhi has become one of the most criminal cities in the world. It is not safe for women.
The situation has to be changed. There should be serious punishment for the culprits. The government and the police should come up with protective measures, stringent punishments for the culprits, fast-track courts. The society has to condemn and come to the defence of the victims. All of us have to jointly put strong effort to ensure that such harassment and attack on the women are put an end to.

Women more secure in Left ruled Tripura-Brinda Karat

Tripura safe for women

CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat yesterday said at Agartala that women are most secured in Tripura, both economically and physically because the Left Front Government and her party always stand by the women for their protection.
“Whenever women are tortured in Tripura the government and our party act together for redress and protection. The government has taken up many schemes for their empowerment and education. Women are most secured in this state economically and physically,” Brinda said while addressing a gathering of women organised by the Democratic Women’s Association.
Brinda criticised the Congress led UPA government for allowing FDI in retail on the plea that in the course of unemployment, the women in the country would be most sufferer because many women are were doing small business in retail counters.
She said 14 parties had opposed FDI in the parliament “but prime minister Manmohan Singh was adamant to invite Wallmart in India wh.ich would destroy the economy of the country.”
“Prime Minister might be able to manipulate parliament but would not be able to manipulate the people of the country. We will continue to oppose it (FDI) and launch a movement throughout the state so that it could not be implemented,” she claimed.

Rs. 600 sufficient for a family of 5 – Sheila Dikshit CM

Rs 120/for amonth

It seems that the top ruling political leaders have lost their connection with aam admi. The report in the press about the statement of Smt. Sheela Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi once again confirm the same. She has told the press that Rs. 600/-now being given as cash transfer to the poor will be sufficient/adequate for a family of five for one month for the necessities. It means that Rs. 4 will be suficient for a person for one day! What Nonsense! Can the head of a state utter such Nonsense?

A few months back Dy. Chairman, Planning Commission, Dr. Montek Ahluwalia has stateed that Rs. 26/- is sufficient for a person to live a day.Even according to that Rs. 780/- is necessary for a person for a month. That statement itself was severely criticised by the people and media. Now the Delhi CM has reduced it to Rs. 120/- for person for one month.
The ruling class is worried about the corporates and rich only. They have scant considerration for the poor and needy. The CM’s statement exactly shows this disdain for the poor.

Aggressive reforms in the way

PM's speech at FICCI

Signalling more reforms in the coming days, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the government will do everything to “allay and alter the economic situation”.”The government is committed to do everything to put economy back on a high growth path of 8-9 per cent. The steps we have taken recently are only the beginning of the process to revive our economy…”
The PM was addressing the FICCI conference. The PM’s sppech is an assurance to the corporates and the big business that more ‘reforms’ are going to be introduced. Whatever have been introduced is making the life of the aam admi miserable, while of course benefitting the corporates and big business to maximise their profits.
The working class and the common people have to prepare for continued struggles. The two days 20-21 February 2012 strike is part of this big struggle that we have to take to alter the anti-worker, anti-people policies of the government.

A visit to the Red Fort

Red Fort

Today evening, along with my wife, I went to see the Red Fort once again. There was not much rush, but visitors were there, and a lot of school children. We visited the war museum, where the weapons of the Mughal period and other equipments are placed for show. The museum of the dress, utensils, books etc. of the Mughal period is shown in another museum. Of course we visited the Diwani-khas, Diwani-Am, Moti Mosque, garden and other places, people usually visit. While coming back looked at the merchandise in the Chhatt Bazar, the market specially made for the palace women to visit and purchase.

The Fort is said to be constructed during the period of Emperor Shajahan in the 1640s. The Mughal dynasty which started with Babar continued to rule till the period of the last Moghul, Bahadur Shah Zafar, who was taken captive by the British after the First war of Independence of 1857 and sent to Rangoon and died there in 1862. The Red Fort has stood erect for the last three hundred years and had seen the rule of the Moghuls, the British and the new rulers after Independence in 1947. In the 124 acre fort, after capturing, buildings have been constructed by the British for the military to stay. It does not fit in to the picture of the fort.

Almost all the valuables like money, priceless jewels, stones – every thing might have been looted by the British and will be in the British Musewum or in the forts and palaces of the king and the nobles in Britain. Some of them are being auctioned when the owners want some money. There is no limit to the wealth and valuable things taken away or shall I say stolen by the British from the country. The government of India should demand that all these valuables should be returned to India since it is the soverign property of India alone.

The saying is that ‘The Past is Past’. But some how I feel that the ‘Past is not Past alone, but a past from which a lot can be learnt and which can be used for making the present and future better for the mankind.’

Banking Bill - Parliament

The entire opposition walked out from Parliament today, 10th December, protesting against the presenting of Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill. The opposition pointed out that this bill includes new sections which have been added after the report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee and hence it has to be sent to the Standing Committee again.

Widespread protest actions have been organised by the Bank employees’ organisations against he Bill. This and the Insurance Bill to increase the FDI to 49 % are intended to bring in more reforms as demanded by the MNCs and corporates and are against the interests of the country.

Wal-Mart spent Rs. 125 crores towards lobbying for getting markets

Wal-Mart- Indian market

It has come out that the retail chain MNC, Wal-Mart had spent $ 25 million dollars ( about Rs. 125 crore) for lobbying for getting markets including in India. This was disclosed in a report to the US Senate by the company. In September 2012 alone it has spent Rs. 10 crore for discussions related to FDI in India. It is also stated that Wal-Mart has been continuously lobbying for Indian market since 2008.

However, it is not known how this lobbying money was spent? It will mostly be bribery only. If it is so, it is certain that the ruling class in India and especially those in power at centre might have been involved. The MNCs know who are to be contacted and how to get things got done. The visit of the US officials continuously and meeting with top politicians  is not a secret. The aggressiveness and the adamant attitude of the UPA-II government in defeating the resolution against FDI in Parliament , by whatever means, and allowing the Wal Marts to enter and loot India is an indication of the involvement of the rulers with Wal-Mart.

The coming days will see much more than this exposure, which is only a small part.
