“Every drop of blood spilled in a land under whose flag one was not born is experience gathered by the survivor to be applied later in the struggle for liberation of one’s own country. And every people that liberates itself is a step in the battle for the liberation of one’s own people.”
“Let the flag under which we fight be the sacred cause of the liberation of humanity, so that to die under the colors of Vietnam, Venezuela, Guatemala, Laos, Guinea, Colombia, Bolivia…. to mention only the current scenes of armed struggle… will be equally glorious and desirable for a Latin American, An Asian, An African, and even a European.” – Che Guevara

The Bolivian Diary is the daily notes written by Che Guevara, the eternal revolutionary, during his guerilla campaign from 7th November 1966 to 7th October 1967 for the freedom of Bolivia, in which he met his end at the hands of the Bolivian Military. He was shot dead on 8th October 1967 at La Higuera, at a school in a mountainous terrain, after being captured.
Che could have escaped, but he wanted his other comrades to be safe and fought to the last. He was captured since his gun was broken, the ammunition was over and he was seriously wounded. While Che and the Guerillas had released the soldiers captured by them after lecturing them about the revolution and taking away their guns, ammunition and uniforms, the military never showed the same respect or treatment to Che or the Guerillas.
After the victory of Cuban revolution in 1959, Che Guivera, comrade-in-arms to Fidel Castro, President of Cuba, in the guerilla campaign and a Minister in the Cuban Government, left to Bolivia incognito to fight for the freedom of Bolivia. He was an eternal revolutionary and was in continuous warfare against dictatorship and capitalism. The Bolivian Diary reveals the steel like resolution of the comrade, who steadfastly fought and led the guerillas and ambushed the military numbering many folds more than them in several ambushes. It is really surprising how in the day and night fight and campaign through the densely forests he found time to note the developments. Of course, he was an exceptionally revolutionary comrade.
Reading the ‘Bolivian Diary’ itself was an experience. It has inspired millions and millions of toiling masses throughout the world to fight back and participate in revolutionary struggles.

The proposal for 100% FDI in Railways, which was prepared at the time of the UPA II government, is reported to be presented to the new government by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The FDI will be in high speed train systems, suburban corridors, high speed tracks and freight lines connecting port and mines. It is to be noted that these are the sections from which Railways get much revenue. Here also the UPA II government’s policy of gifting the Corporates the profitable side and retaining with the government the losing side is in clear evidence.
There is no need for FDI in Railways and it should be completely opposed.

It is reported from London today that a ring of Tipu Sultan with an inscription ‘Ram’ has been auctioned for Rs. 1.42 crore. The name of the person who bid for the ring is unknown. The bid amount was ten times more than the auction amount. The inscription ‘Ram’ is written in Devanagari.
The ring was in the finger of Tipu Sultan when he was killed in the fight at srirangapatnam with the british in 1799. It was taken from his finger by Arthur Wellesley, the Commander of the British Regiment. Later it was in the custody of the his nephew Fitzroy Somerset and then his inheritors. It is now bid for Rs. 1.42 crores.
It is well known that innumerable treasures like this have been looted by the British army, officers and even British civilians from India. They captured many kingdoms and treasures were taken to Britain. In the museums in Britain, one can see thousands of such articles and valuables looted by the British. Much more will be in the residences of lords and noblemen who looted them from India.
The rulers of independent India should have demanded return of these valuable and article of historical importance. But they did nothing of that sort. Now that a new government is going to be formed, it is their responsibility to get all these back to its original country. Will they do it?

“With the ascent to power by RSS-backed Narendra Modi, the people of the country will be subjected to a twin-pronged attack – intensified pursuit of neo-liberal reforms and heightened communalisation of society resulting in the division of the people. The task before the Left today is to rally the people against neo-liberal policies and prepare the people for struggles while safeguarding their unity.”

The exploitation of the forced labour, whether in domestic chores, sex or other occupations has exceeded 21 million ( 2.1 crore) worldwide according to a report of the International Labour organisation (ILO). The same report by the UN organisation also points out that through this brutal exploitation, the employers are getting profits of more than $150 billions. It is also stated that nearly two-thirds of the profits are from the sexual exploitation.
In India also, it may not be much different. There have been many such reports in the media.
Forced labour is a stigma on the civilised society. There should be no place for it anywhere. Instead of reducing or putting an end to the same, more and more such practices are taking place. The neo-liberal policies, the greed for maximisation of profits and the backwardness of the people are the main reasons for this state of affairs.
There should be an end to this brutal exploitation.

‘Antilia’, the 27 storey residence of Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai is the most expensive outrageous home in the world with a cost of more than thousands of crores of rupees. While crores of people in the country has not even a roof above them and sleep in the pavements and roads, one family stays in a super-palatial skyscraper with six floors for underground parking, three helicopter pads and hundreds of staff to run the house. This is atrocious, outrageous and intolerable.
This is all the result of the anti-people neo-liberal policy being pursued by both the NDA and UPA governments for more than last two decades. This filthy neo-liberalisation, which on the one side makes the rich the richer and the poor poorer should be defeated. The report in the Business Line is reproduced below:
NEW YORK, MAY 14:
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s skyscraper residence in Mumbai is the most expensive billionaire home in the world according to a Forbes list, which also includes Indian-origin steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal’s houses in London.
Ambani’s 27-storey, 400,000 sq ft skyscraper home ‘Antilia’, named after a mythical island in the Atlantic, tops the Forbes list of the most expensive homes in the world.
“The title of the most outrageously expensive property in the world still belongs to Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia in Mumbai,” Forbes said, adding that it is “far and away” the world’s most expensive home, with construction costs reported between $1-2 billion.
The house has six floors of underground parking, three helicopter pads, and allegedly requires a staff of 600 to keep it running.
To put Antilia’s scale and cost into perspective, Forbes compared it to ‘7 World Trade Centre’, a 52-storey tower that stands near Ground Zero in Manhattan, with 1.7 million sq ft of office space, and built at a cost of $2 billion. ( Courtesy: Business Line)

Press Statement
The Left parties – Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party – have issued the following statement:
Protest against the Violence and Rigging in West Bengal
The last phase of elections for 17 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal has been marked by widespread violence, capture of more than a thousand polling booths, polling agents of opposition parties being driven out and physical attacks on people going to vote in various places.
The Trinamool Congress had launched this campaign of terror and intimidation on the eve of the polling. The entire State machinery and the police have connived in this effort to manipulate the elections.
The worst incident took place in Haroa block in the Basirhat parliamentary constituency where voters going to the polling booth were fired upon. Four persons suffered bullet injuries and 17 others were injured by sharp weapons.
Some of the worst affected seats are Kolkata North, Barrackpur, Ghatal, Dumdum, Basirhat, Bongaon and Diamond Harbour.
Along with the rigging done in the third and fourth phase of polling, this constitutes a brazen attack on the democratic system. Despite this violence, people have been braving these attacks and asserting their right to vote.
It is shocking that the Election Commission has been unable to intervene effectively during this round of polling, even though there was enough forewarning about what was to come, after the earlier two phases of polling.
The Left parties demand that the Election Commission intervene urgently to restore conditions for a free and fair poll. This can be done only by ordering a re-poll in all the affected polling booths in the third, fourth and fifth rounds of polling. It is only by doing this that the sanctity of the democratic process can be protected.
The Left parties call upon all democratic forces to voice their protest against this assault on democracy in West Bengal. The Left parties will organise protests all over the country on May 14 to demand that re-polling is conducted in all the affected areas under the strict supervision of the Election Commission.
