Release of “Cuban Five” a big victory for Cuba – CPI(M)

Cuba, US

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) welcomes the agreement between the governments of Cuba and the United States to take steps to normalize relations between the two countries. The release of the three remaining “Cuban Five” who were jailed in the US on false charges of espionage and the decision to renew diplomatic relations are a victory for the Cuban people and government who have faced more than five decades of efforts by the United States to isolate it.
The United States has been enforcing an economic blockade on Cuba which needs to be reversed. This is a policy which has no support whatsoever from the international community. The US Congress has to repeal the law in this regard but President Obama can take steps to relax the measures.
The CPI(M) along with progressive and democratic forces in India congratulate the Cuban government and people for this important breakthrough.

Failing to pass the bill in Rajya Sabha, Govt. opts for Ordinance for Insurance Bill

100% FDI, increase, Insurance Bill, ordinance

The government which failed to pass the Insurance Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha may opt to issue ordinance after the winter session is over. There are only two days left for the winter session to end and it may not be possible to pass the same since the Rajya Sabha is continuously adjourned due to the ‘conversion issue’ is not  resolved.

One thing is clear. The NDA government has decided to make the changes in the Insurance Act to favour the private companies, by increasing the FDI from 26% to 49%. The NDA wants it to be done before the visit of US President Obama in January 2015. Whenever the Prime Minister of India visits US or whenever President or any important functionary in the US government visits India, something to please the US imperialists has to be done according to the NDA/UPA governments. And now the US President himself is visiting India, a ‘great favour’. The favour has to be returned by increasing FDI, which is the demand of the US financial sector.

The interest of the US is more important to the Indian ruling class, than the interest of India.

$ 439 billion Black Money outside India, almost same in India

black money

According to a study report of the Global Financial Integrity, it is estimated that about $ 439 billion is the financial outflow from India to other countries, mostly black money from 2003 to 2012. In 2012 alone it is $. 94.8 billion.

The report also indicates that almost the same amount will be the black money stashed inside India also.

Studies, reports etc. are OK. But what about catching the holders of black money and punishing the guilty? The inaction on the part of the UPA and NDA  governments clearly show that they are not interested in catching the big fish. Till such time drastic actions are taken, black money will flourish.

US and Cuba to restore diplomatic ties; US blockade of Cuba ends.

blockade, Cuba, US

It is a very good news! The US and Cuba has decided to restore the diplomatic relations between the two countries. It has been 23 years that US has issued blockade and embargo against the tiny Socialist state in 1961. It had seriously and adversely affected the trade of Cuba with other countries, but it managed.

Now there as been an exchange of prisoners also. The left out 3 Cubans in jail in US has been released and Cuba also has released the US prisoners.

It is stated that the Pope and Vatican have been in discussion with both the countries and the present understanding has been reached. Further a large majority f the countries in the UN have been continuously pressing to remove the US blockade of Cuba. US was being isolated.

Let us hope that the new development will improve the bitter relations between the countries.

The attack on the Peshawar School and the massacre of more than hundred children by the Taliban today is most horrible and inhuman. The lives and dreams of many families are shattered for ever. Many children are in hospital with serious wounds due to gun shots.

We condemn this inhuman attack on the innocent children. It is the duty of all the nations to condemn this dastardly attack and ensure the lives of the people and children from such terrorists.

Take Action against HR Minister – CPI(M)

CPI(M), HR Minister, X-Mas

CPI(M) Polit  Bureau has issued the following Statement:

The Polit Bureau demands accountability of the HRD Minister Smriti Irani and strongly condemns the Modi Government’s untruthful statements regarding the  circular issued by her Ministry on December 9 addressed not only to the Navodaya schools but also the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools.

Contrary to what she has stated that “only a voluntary online essay competition which did not require students to go to school” the circular issued by her Ministry not only asked schools to “ensure active participation of students” for activities ranging from declamation contests, to child cabinets, to documentary screenings, but also to provide the Ministry with compliance reports.

In fact the response from the KVS that it was not possible as schools would be closed has further exposed the actions of the Minister.

Thus the Minister has willfully tried to conceal the facts. This is an addition to the wholly unconstitutional effort to push a divisive agenda on a day which is a holiday celebrated by the Christian community as a holy day.

The Prime Minister should inform the nation through Parliament what action he intends to take against the Minister.

The Magnificient Strike in Belgium on 15th December 2014 against austerity measures

Belgium Strike on 15-12-2014

Brussels, Dec 15 Belgium ground to a halt in its biggest strike in years today as trade unions grounded flights, cut international rail links and shut sea ports to protest the new government’s austerity plans.
In the climax to a month of industrial action against new Prime Minister Charles Michel’s policies, striking workers stopped all public transport while most schools, businesses and government offices shut down.
Pickets also blocked traffic outside the Brussels headquarters of the European Union, a 28-nation bloc that has seen years of protests against austerity aimed at cutting debts that threatened the euro currency.
The Belgian strike came days after a day of protest in Italy against Prime Minister Matteo Renzi’s ambitious reform plans, while there have been similar demonstrations in Spain and Greece in recent months.
“There has never been a strike this strong,” Marie-Helene Ska, the head of the Christian CSC union, was quoted as saying by the Belga news agency.
Belgian trade unions launched their movement last month with a march of more than 100,000 people in Brussels, which ended in violent protests that left dozens of police officers injured.
Unions went ahead with Monday’s general strike after premier Michel’s right-of-centre government refused to budge on plans to save 11 billion euros (USD 13.7 billion) over five years.
His coalition, which took office in October, intends to raise the retirement age from 65 to 67 from 2030, scrap plans for a usually automatic cost-of-living raise next year and introduce public sector cutbacks.
French-speaking Michel — who at 38 is Belgium’s youngest prime minister since 1840 — heads a coalition of three Flemish-speaking right-leaning parties and his own Francophone liberals.
The government formed five months after elections had hoped to calm a nation deeply divided between the richer Flanders and the poorer French-speaking Wallonia, but instead has led to weeks of industrial action.
The last national strike in Belgium was in 2012 against the government of socialist prime minister Elio di Rupo.
Belgian airspace was closed after air traffic controllers joined the strike, preventing flights from landing or taking off from airports in Brussels, Charleroi, Liege, Antwerp and Ostend.
Some 50,000 passengers have been affected as a total of 600 incoming and outgoing flights have been cancelled at Brussels international airport, spokeswoman Florence Muls said.

Withdraw the HRD Order on work on X-Mas

15 Monday Dec 2014

New Delhi, December 15: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Withdraw the HRD Order

The Human Resources Development Ministry has taken yet another offensive and unjustifiable decision to ask CBSE and other government-run schools to observe “good governance day” on Christmas day, December 25.  Already the Navodaya schools’ management have decided that the schools will remain open on December 24 and 25.

This is a crude interference in the schedule of schools which go on Christmas vacation from December 24 and is an assault on the religious right of the Christian community.

The Polit Bureau demands the withdrawal of this communally motivated instruction.  If the government wants to observe “good governance day” on December 25, it should do so without  involving the schools.

Gold Thirsty Malayali – a report in TOI

Gold, Kerala

Today’s Sunday Times (Delhi Edition) in its first page has exposed the gold greedy Kerala people. As per the report three finance companies in Kerala have got more than 195 tons of gold in their vaults, which is much more than the gold reserves of countries like Sweden, Singapore, Australia etc.

According to the report, Muthoot Finance has 116 tons, Manappuram Finance 40 tons and Muthoot Fincorp 39 tons of gold in their vaults. Singapore has got only 127 tons, Sweden 126 and Australia 80 tons of gold reserve.

The Malayali is much fond of gold and is happy showing off also. The gold ornaments worn by the bride and now bride groom also is beyond imagination. The yellow metal has become a status mark. The large number of cases of gold smuggling through flights give an idea that how much gold is being smuggled to Kerala.

It is not much different in other parts of the country also, may be to a lesser extent.

The Malayalis must have a rethink on their mad love for gold.

Condemn forced conversions, CPI(M)

New Delhi, December 11: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the religious conversion of around 300 Muslims, mostly poor migrants from Bihar and West Bengal in Agra through false enticement, force and intimidation by the RSS/BJP.

The RSS/BJP leaders have declared their intent to organise similar conversions of Muslims and Christians in Ghazipur, Aligarh and other places in Uttar Pradesh. Such type of conversions using force and intimidation will lead to communal tensions across the country.

Such forced conversions are criminal offences and all those indulging in or encouraging such religious conversions should be prosecuted. The Polit Bureau urges upon both the state government in Uttar Pradesh and the central government to take firm steps to stop such conversions.
