CPI(M) oppose intercepting and monitoring of matters stored in computers

PB CPI(M)

The Politburo of CPI(M) has issued the following statement:

“The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an order authorizing ten Central agencies to intercept, monitor and decrypt “any information generated, transmitted, received or stored in any computer”.

This is a brazen attack on the fundamental right to privacy given to every citizen by our Constitution. This order goes against the spirit of Supreme Court judgements on telephone tapping guidelines, the right to privacy judgement and the Aadhar judgement. The track record of this government in harassing and persecuting citizens who do not share the RSS/BJP viewpoint is there for everyone to see. Individuals have been picked up for social media posts which are seen as being inimical to their image.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that this order must be rescinded immediately.

Double Loot of People’s Money

The government has sought, once again, Parliament’s approval to give Rs. 41,000 crores more to the public sector banks to recapitalize them. This will take the total recapitalizing amount to Rs. 1,06,000 crore this year. The banking crisis is being caused by the Modi government’s patronage to their cronies to take loans and then leave the country. Instead of making efforts to recover these loans, more public money is being pumped in to finance this loot of public money. This is the double loot of the hard-earned savings of the Indian people.

Till date, the Modi government has not revealed the list of crony capitalists and how much they have borrowed. This lack of transparency deepens the suspicion of the patronage being provided by the Modi government to such loot of public money.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) demands that the list of such crony capitalists be made public and steps initiated to recover these amounts.”

Bank Strike

Around 3.20 lakh officers from various state-run banks are on a one-day strike on 21st December seeking immediate wage revision and opposing the proposed merger of Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with Bank of Baroda. The union also demanded wage revision, which is pending since November 1, 2017, for employees from scale 1-7.

Bank managements have mandated the industry lobby Indian Bank Association (IBA) to negotiate for scale 1-3.

“The IBA is also not coming forward to structure the 11th bipartite wage negotiations based on our charter of demands by discussing the wage revision for officers from scale 1-7 and also based on the concept of minimum wages as envisaged in the seventh Central pay commission report,” All- India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) general secretary Soumya Datta said.(Courtesy: Press Reports)

Observe December 6 as `Defend the Constitution and Secularism Day’ – Left Parties

6th December, Babri Masjid Day

New Delhi, November 24: The Left parties – Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, All India Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist)-Liberation and Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) –have issued the following statement:

December 6, this year, marks the 26th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid. In the current situation, it is essential to observe this day in defence of secularism and democracy.

The RSS led outfits have begun a campaign to demand that the Central government pass a legislation/ordinance to facilitate the building of the Ram temple at the disputed site at Ayodhya, bypassing the Supreme Court.

This campaign is designed to subserve the communal agenda of the Sangh Brigade and nullify the provisions relating to secularism in the Indian Constitution. The Left parties are strongly opposed to this effort to subvert the judicial verdict on the Ayodhya dispute. The Sangh Brigade cannot be allowed to subvert the Constitutional provisions in the name of `faith’.

The Left parties call upon all its units to mobilise to observe December 6, also Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s death anniversary, as `Defend the Constitution and Secularism Day’. All state units should work out programmes of holding joint demonstrations, dharnas and meetings.

Demonetisation had serious adverse impact on India – former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan

10 Saturday Nov 2018

PTI

Washington, Nov 10 : Demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) are the two major headwinds that held back India’s economic growth last year, former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan has said, asserting that the current seven per cent growth rate is not enough to meet the country’s needs.

Addressing an audience at the University of California in Berkley on Friday, Rajan said for four years — 2012 to 2016 — India was growing at a faster pace before it was hit by two major headwinds.

“The two successive shocks of demonetisation and the GST had a serious impact on growth in India. Growth has fallen off interestingly at a time when growth in the global economy has been peaking up,” he said delivering the second Bhattacharya Lectureship on the Future of India.

A growth rate of seven per cent per year for 25 years is “very very strong” growth, but in some sense this has become the new Hindu rate of growth, which earlier used to be three-and-a-half per cent, Rajan said.

“The reality is that seven is not enough for the kind of people coming into the labour market and we need jobs for them, So, we need more and cannot be satisfied at this level,” he said.

Observing that India is sensitive to global growth, he said India has become a much more open economy, and if the world grows, it also grows more.

“What happened in 2017 is that even as the world picked up, India went down. That reflects the fact that these blows (demonetisation and GST) have really really been hard blows…Because of these headwinds we have been held back,” he said.

While India’s growth is picking up again, there is the issue of oil prices, the economist noted referring to the huge reliance of India on import of oil for its energy needs.

With the oil prices going up, Rajan said things are going to be little tougher for the Indian economy, even though the country is recovering from the headwinds of demonetisation and initial hurdles in the implementation of the GST.

Commenting on the rising Non-Performing Assets (NPA), he said the best thing to do in such a situation is to “clean up”.

It is essential to “deal up with the bad stuff”, so that with clean balance sheets, banks can be put back on the track. “It has taken India far long to clean up the banks, partly because the system did not had instruments to deal with bad debts,” Rajan said.

The bankruptcy code, he asserted, cannot be the only way to clean up the banks. It is the only one element of the larger cleanup plan, he said and called for a multi-prong approach to address the challenge of NPAs in India.

India, he asserted, is capable of a strong growth. As such the seven per cent growth is now being taken granted.

“If we go below seven per cent, then we must be doing something wrong,” he said adding that that is the base on which India has to grow at least for next 10-15 years.

India, he said, needs to create one million jobs a month for the people joining the labour force.

The country today is facing three major bottlenecks. One is the torn infrastructure, he said, observing that construction is the one industry that drives the economy in early stages. “Infrastructure creates growth,” he said. Second, short term target should be to clean up the power sector and to make sure that the electricity produced actually goes to the people who want the power, he said.

Cleaning up the banks is the third major bottleneck in India’s growth, he said.

Part of the problem in India is that there is an excessive centralisation of power in the political decision making, he said.

“India can’t work from the centre. India works when you have many people taking up the burden. And today the central government is excessively centralised,” Rajan said.

An example of this is the quantum of decisions that requires the ascent of the Prime Minister’s Office, he said.(Courtesy: Ganashakti)

Modi Government’s Disastrous Demonetisation – Sitaram Yechury

Com. Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary CPI(M) has issued the following statement:
On the second anniversary of demonetization, the Indian economy is yet to recover from the disaster imposed on our economy and the people by Prime Minister Modi.

All the claims that it would unearth lakhs of crores of rupees of black money and end corruption have proven to be utterly false. On the contrary, with 99.4 per cent of the banned notes back in the system, it is clear that demonetization has, in fact, been the avenue to convert black money into white helping the most corrupt. On the other hand, crores of people dependent on daily cash transactions have been devastated and more than 35 lakh workers in the unorganized sector have lost their livelihood. Similarly, the SMEs have suffered a huge loss in revenue. Nor has there been any impact on terrorist activities due to funding crunch as claimed by Modi at that time. On the contrary, official data reveals that incidents of terrorist attacks have more than doubled.

The CPI(M) also condemns the shameless defence being put out by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who is equally responsible for the mess in the Indian economy. In its ongoing campaigns across the country, CPI(M) units are taking these facts

Note ban destroyed the livelyhood of the people _ Sitaram Yechury

09 Friday Nov 2018

On the second anniversary of demonetisation, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury Thursday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi through note ban had “singlehandedly” destroyed the livelihood of people and the economy of the country.

The government’s demonetisation move was a disaster for the economy and the people, the CPI(M) general secretary said.

On the Modi government’s prediction that demonetisation would end black money, corruption and terminate terrorism, Yechury claimed that the Indian economy is yet to recover from the impact of note ban.

“Modi and his minions claimed demonetisation will end black money, finish corruption, terminate terrorism, and bring only digital transactions. Two years later, Modi is silent. The truth is that he singlehandedly destroyed the economy, lives and livelihoods,” he tweeted.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday made a strong defence of the note ban move, saying it resulted in formalisation of economy and increased tax base, with the government earmarking more resources for the poor and infrastructure development.

Yechury claimed that five years ago, Modi had promised Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s bank account, but those who got huge amounts are the ones who looted banks and fled the country.

“They want you to forget that Rs 15 lakh for every Indian was promised by Modi. It was exactly five years ago. Those who got Rs 150000 lakhs are the ones who looted the banks and then were allowed to scoot from India (sic)”, the CPI (M) leader said on Twitter.

The CPI(M) polit bureau in a statement alleged that all the claims of the Modi government that demonetisation would unearth lakhs of crores of rupees of black money and end corruption have proven to be utterly false.

“On the contrary, with 99.4 per cent of the banned notes back in the system, it is clear that demonetization has, in fact, been the avenue to convert black money into white helping the most corrupt”, the party said.

The Left party also alleged that crores of people dependent on daily cash transactions have been devastated and more than 35 lakh workers in the unorganised sector have lost their livelihood.

“Nor has there been any impact on terrorist activities due to funding crunch as claimed by Modi at that time. On the contrary, official data reveals that incidents of terrorist attacks have more than doubled,”the CPI(M) said in the statement.

Privatisation of 6 more Airports

09 Friday Nov 2018

AAI, Airport privatisation, PPA

All the airports in the country were under the government managed by the Airport Authority of India. As part of the new economic policy and so called liberalisation, the biggest and most revenue earning airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hydeabad and Kochi were handed over to private companies. The proposal to privatise Kolkatta and Chennai could not be implemented due to strong protests by the people and employees.

The privatisation under PPP ( Public Private Participation) is justified, that it will improve operation, management and development and the AAI / Government has not sufficient funds. This is only a lame excuse. The real intention is to hand over these airports to privatise to accumulate their wealth and make huge profits. Though some improvements are made, which AAI can also do efficiently, the charges for all services in the privatised airports have gone sky high with prices of coffee, tea, tiffins, meals as also prices of other commodities. While coffee/tea are available at nominal prices in the AAI controlled Kolkatta and Chennai airports, the passenger has to pay more than double of that amount in Mumbai and Delhi. Further, the corporates are getting huge rents for the buildings in and around the airports, which naturally would have been that of AAI.

Now, the Central Cabinet has decided to privatise six more profit earning Airports viz. Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru. The profit of AAI will further be reduced due to this decision. After some time, it will be only loss making airports under the operation of the AAI.

This privatisation of airports has to be resisted and defeated in the interests of the people, the passengers and the employees.

Women entry in Sabarimala after SC verdict.

Sabarimala

The judgment of the Supreme Court allowing women in 10 to 50 age also has been welcomed by the all India leaders of all parties including BJP, Congress, CPI(M), CPI and others. RSS leaders also welcomed the judgment. It was thought that all the political parties in Kerala also will welcome the same. But what happened is something else. Leaders of BJP, Congress etc. opposed and utilised the situation to create tension in the state opposing the effort of the state government to implement the SC verdict. In the name of bhaktas, goondaism was created in Sabarimala precincts by the RSS and right Hindutwa forces.

The opposition parties in Kerala are worried about the whole support given by the people of Kerala to the LDF government led by Com. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister, who have dealt with the Okhy situation, floods and landslide natural calamities etc. and saved the valuable lives of the people. The relief work in Kerala was supported by the entire people and the creation of a better Kerala, a New Kerala is going on despite short of funds and a non-sympathetic central government who stopped willing help from other countries. General elections are coming and the opposition parties have started playing the ‘bhakti’ card to confuse the people and divide them on the basis of believers and non-believers.

The state government is only implementing the SC judgment, which it is bound to implement. Further this is a progressive judgment removing the discrimination between man and woman in the matter of temple entry. The SC has upheld the constitution and its high values.

The people of Kerala will not allow the RSS and the extreme right wing to implement their communal and casteist agenda in Kerala.
