New Delhi, Aug 31 : Opening a new front against the Government, UPA’s outside supporter Samajwadi Party joined hands with the Left parties and TDP today to demand a judicial probe into coal blocks allocation and cancellation of licenses failng which they threatened to launch a countrywide agitation.     SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav staged a dharna at the main entrance of the Parliament building along with leaders from the CPI, CPI(M), RSP, Forward Block and TDP.     They claimed to have support from eight parties for their demand.     More than 30 MPs from these parties staged the dharna which began around 10.30 AM. The MPs including Yadav, CPI leader D Raja and TDP’s Nama Nageshwar Rao shouted slogans and carried placards for inquiry into the coal scam and cancellation of allotments of coal blocks.     They demanded that the Parliament should be allowed to function and to put an end to the “match-fixing” of the Congress and the BJP to disrupt it.     After the 20-minute dharna, Yadav told reporters, “We demand that a sitting Supreme Court judge or the CBI should inquire into the scam. If they don’t order a probe, we will fight at the national level and go to the people on the issue”.     Asked if the parties would continue to be together in the future and whether this was the beginning of a Third Front, he said, “This will continue and whatever you want to think, you can do that.     “We want the coal block licences should be cancelled and there should be a discussion on the issue in Parliament,” he said. CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said, “Both BJP and Congress want to avoid a discussion because they don’t want it. If there is no discussion, many of their secrets will remain safe. If a debate is held, many skeletons will tumble out of the cupboard.”     Asked if Yadav could be trusted, he said, “That is why we are saying that only time will tell what will happen in the future”.     CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said, “We have united to fight corruption and the efforts to destroy Parliamentary democracy. This will not only be in Parliament but outside also. This is the beginning of a new day and era”.     TDP leader Nama Nageshwara Rao said, “We want the government to cancel the allocation of coal blocks”.     He alleged that both Congress and BJP were involved in loot of iron ore in Karnataka.     Leaders of SP, CPI, CPI(M) and TDP met yesterday in the backdrop of Parliament failing to transact any business for almost two weeks, with the BJP continuing to create ruckus by pressing its demand for the resignation of the Prime Minister.

Cancel the coal block allocations

28 Tuesday Aug 2012

The Left Parties and other opposition parties have correctly demanded that the coal blocks allotted to private companies with out auction and which have incurred Rs.  1.86 lakh crore to the nation should be cancelled as was ordered by the Supreme Court in the 2G scam. It is only very reasonable and appropriate. Denial of this demand will naturally point out that this loss was incurred with the full knowledge and involvement of the government.

There is no limit to the huge scams!

20 Monday Aug 2012

More and more huge and gigantic scams are unearthed by the CAG one after another. In one stroke Shri Vinod Rai, CAG, has exposed the UPA government before the public. In his latest reports the CAG has pointed out irregulatites and violation of rules resulting in loss of about Rs. 3 lakh crore to the Cental government.

1. Allotment of Coal-blocks to Tatas, Jindals, Adanis, Adag etc. Rs. 1.78 crore

2. Diversion of surplus coal by Reliance Rs. 29,003 crore

3. Land allotment to DIAL ( Delhi Airport private company) Rs. 1,63,557 crore

The fact that the Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was in charge of the coal ministry at the time of this allotment etc. has become a big head-ache for the UPA II. The Prime Minister will not be able escape this scam as he tried to do in the 2G scam.

It has been once again exposed that the UPA government and it s ministers are involved in scams, the number of which are increasing every day.

The opposition parties have already demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister. The Parliament session now is surely going to rock for many days with the opposition parties charging the UPA.

CAG reports expose scam after scam

18 Saturday Aug 2012

The UPA II government is in real trouble. In addition to the already exposed scams like 2G, CWG, Adarsh, Axis etc. the CAG has given three other reports which exposes the scams in Coal blocks allotment, Delhi Airport PPP for  DIAL and also in power sector. All these will come to a huge loss of about Rs. 3 lakh crore to the government, according to CAG.

The coal-gate scam of loss about Rs. 1.86 lakh crore is more damaging since Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister, was in charge of the Coal ministry. It will be difficult for him to escape from the charge of loss in coal-black  allotment as in the case of 2G scam.

The Parliament session tomorrow will really be  a battle field by the aggressive opposition and the defending ruling coalition.

‘Coal-Gate’ loss to Govt. Rs. 1.86 lakh Crore -CAG

17 Friday Aug 2012

There is no end to the high level corruption in this country. Like 2G scam, CWG scam, Adarsh Scam, Axis deal scam – the government is already merged in to mega scams with many ministers involved in the same. Now three other high level scams have been exposed in the latest reports of the CAG presented to the parliament.

The ‘coal-gate’ scam involving a loss more than 1.86 lakh crore to the government is one of them. During the period 2004- 2009, many coal blocks have been allotted to private companies without any auction and at very cheap rates.  This has resulted in loss of more than Rs. 1.86 lakh crore more than the 2 G Scam. Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was in charge of the coal ministry at that period.

Has Corruption become ‘Honourable’ ?

04 Wednesday Jul 2012

During the last few years corruption seems to have become honourable and even a necessary cap for many of the politicians and top bureeacrats. Those businessmen, MNCs etc. who bribed Ministers and top officers and got benefits and became super-rich used to boast themselves of their ‘achievements’.

Now it seems that in politics also corruption has become honourable. Hundreds of top level politicians and bureacrats are now charged with corruption, punished, arrested etc. and many of them are in jail or bail. Many has escaped conviction. Many escape even FIR with their high political status and being in the ruling party.  But there seems to be no remorse at all forany of  them. They flaunts themselves before the camera, issue statements denying everything and is suppported by many. They are given big receptions when released on bail or on parole. I do not want to mention any specific individual since the fact is known to all.

The media has also got a role in this ‘honouring’ of corruption. Giving wide publicity as if these corrupt persons are ‘heroes’, the public opinion is also being influenced.

This situation should be changed. There should be a strong condemnation of corruption and corrupted persons so that this evil which is adveresely affecting the health of the country should be removed or atleast reduced.

London prepares for Olympics

27 Wednesday Jun 2012

London has been in preparation for the Olympic Games for the last four years or more, though the same is to be held in July 2012. Almost every arrangement is finalised months back, before the games. Wherever you go, you can see the publicity for the same. The newspapers and media are full of reports about the coming event and the chance for UK in the various events. The opportunity is being used as a platform for improving the image of the country amongst the world nations.

Compare what happened in India in connection with the preparation for the Common Wealth Games two years back? Of course, there was wide publicity, but publicity for the worst. Despite money lavishly spent, the arrangements were not ready till the last-minute. Thousands of crore of rupees were pocketed by unscrupulous persons  in the State Government, the Organising Committee and all committees connected  with the games. The country  was shamed before the entire world.

It is high time that India and the its people should act  and act decisively against corruption and the culprits involved.

Auction not the only method for sale of natural resources – Govt.

25 Monday Jun 2012

The government on Monday told the Supreme Court that “auction cannot be the only permissible method for disposal of natural resources” and a uniform policy on their distribution is “neither practical nor can it subserve the common good”.

The Centre also asserted that the allocation of natural resources is a policy matter and beyond the purview of judicial review.

The submissions of the government came in response to the questions framed by the apex court on Presidential Reference moved by it (government) for its opinion on issues arising out of its 2G spectrum allocation judgement including whether auctioning of natural resources across all sectors is mandatory.

Supporting the policy of first-come-first-served, the government said, “Ultimately the method of allocation of natural resources, apart from being governed by the principles of fairness and transparency, should also take into account the dynamic concept of public interest which also includes within its ambit the larger economic perspective and not merely financial gain.”

Further, it said the desirability to have fairness and transparency in state auction does not lead to the conclusion that “auction is the only way” in which one can proceed further.

“The disposal and distribution of natural resources has to be made in accordance with the sector specific requirement of each natural resource. The method of distribution of natural resource has to take into account the nature of natural resource and economic policy underlying the effective utilisation of such resource,” the Centre said.

It is clear from the above statement of the government that it wants to continue the corruption and to favour the private parties they want to.

A meeting of Indian Communists & Workers in UK

25 Monday Jun 2012

It was an educative and pleasant experience. I got the opportunity to attend the Conference of the Association of Indian Communists Great Britain and the Indian Workers Association on 22-23 June at Leicester (pronounced as Lestor), one of the major cities in UK.  I was invited as a visitor to the august Conference by the Secretary, Com. Harsev Bains, whom I got acquainted when I visited UK last time. The Conference was held at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial House which is the own building of the Leicestor unit of AIC & IWA. The hall was named Com. Surjeet Nagar in honour of Com. Har Kishan Singh Surjeet, the veteran leader of CPI(M).

The Public Rally was addressed by Coms. Sitaram Yechury, PBM, CPI(M) and Robert Griffiths, General Secreetary of Communist Party of Britain. Both of them spoke on the international situation and also on the sustained united struggles against the anti-worker policies of the imperialist rulers.

In addition, Com.Sitaram Yechury spoke in detail about the decisions of the 20th Party Congress of CPI(M) held at Calicut in April 2012 and also the tasks in the coming days. The present political situation in India was also explained.

The Indian Workers Association was formed in the 1960s and is closely connection with the British Trade Union movement. Many of the veteran leaders who started the organisation were present. There were many young comrades, especialliy those who belonged to Kerala and who functioned in the SFI and DYFI. I could interact with them and understand the difficulties being experienced by the students and new entrants to the UK from India.

I travelled to Leicestor in car along with Com. Santokh Singh, a senior leader of AIC and a well known progressive poet and another senior comrade. On 22nd night I stayed with the family of  Com. Rajinder Bains at Derby, about 30 miles from Leicestor. He and his family arranged convenient stay and food.

The two days conference not only gave me the chance to learn about the Indians in the UKbut also enriched me with a lot of friends and comrades. The arrnagements for the conference and all the proceedings were well arranged and fruitful. Com. Harsev Bains was reelcted as Secretary unanimously.

Whether PM should be called before 2G JPC ?

20 Wednesday Jun 2012

Posted by VAN NAMBOODIRI in 2G Scam Corruption

In the meeting of the Join t Parliamentary Committee (JPC), looking in to the 2G Scam, held yesterday, the opposition members in the committee demanded that Prime Minister and top officials of the PMO should be called to give evidence before the committee. This was opposed by the ruling party members and instead demanded that all the earlier telecom ministers, many of whom belong to BJP, be called.

It is very clear that there is so much vital information that is being kept undisclosed by those in power. Whether it is the UPA or the NDA government, both have many skeletons in their cupboards. It is necessary that all these information should be placed before the JPC and the public.

The neo-liberal policy and so-called reforms started by 1990s had given the chance for those in power to misuse the authority given to them and have been indulging in corrupt practices to such an extend that much of the natural resources of the country have been handed over to the MNCs and big business for paltry sums. The series of scams being exposed give a sorry picture of those in power. This loot has to be stopped. For that all information should be collected and remedial action taken. Nobody, however high he/she  may be, can not be tolerated, if he/she is found corrupted and working against  national interests.
