International Action Day

The International Action day falls on 3rd October, the Foundation Day of World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), which was formed on 3rd October 1945. Since 3rd October this year was on Dusserah, the Day was observed on 4th October in Delhi.
A well participated procession was organised from the AITUC office to BTR Bhawan, the office of the CITU, where the meeting was held in the Conference Hall. Representatives of Central Trade Unions and Independent federations were present. On behalf of BSNLEU and AIBDPA, Coms. V.A.N.Namboodiri, K.G.Jayaraj, and staff from BSNLEU Office participated.

The presidium consisted of Coms. Amarjit Kaur (AITUC), Hemalatha (CITU) and leaders UTUC, AIUTUC, AICCTU etc.Coms. A.K.Padmanabhan (CITU), Dhar (AITUC) and other leaders addressed and focused on the history of WFTU, the demands placed by it and the theme for this year’s Action Day, ‘Unemployment’. Sustained struggle is required to compel the government to provide more jobs and reduce unemployment. The government was also criticised for not accepting the ILO Conventions 87 and 98 which provides the right to organise, strike etc.

Similar observation of the ‘International Action Day’ have been received from many parts of the country, where BSNLEU, AIBDPA and BSNLCCWF have participated actively.

GREETINGS ON BSNL DAY, 1 OCTOBER !

1 October 2014, BSNL Anniversary

BSNL is completing 14 years of its service to the people of India on this 1st October 2014. It was formed on 1st October 2000, converted from the Department of Telecom and Department of Telecom Services to a Public Sector Unit. Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) and Mahanagar Telephones Nigam Limited were also formed earlier in the same way. VSNL is already sold to the Tata Telecommunications for a meagre amount, coming not even to half of its real price. Hence the workers have not allowed even 1% of disinvestment.

The immediate task is the Revival of BSNL. The Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations and all the unions/Associations are together in strengthening the organisation. But unless the government changes its policy and the management starts functioning effectively, it will be very difficult.

However, we are optimistic. Let us bring all the stakeholders together to work and strengthen BSNL and provide a better service to the nation.

Let this be the task for the 15th year of BSNL !

AIC BSNLEU Kolkata

The Notification for the VII All India Conference of BSNL Employees Union to be held at Kolkata from 6th to 9th October 2014 has been issued. This is the VII AIC of BSNLEU. The earlier conferences were at Visakhapatnam, Lucknow, Guwahati, Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram and Ludhiana. All the AICs were part of the forward march of the BSNL Employees Union, the union recognised both by the workers and the Management.

During the last 13 years, since the union has been formed on 22nd march 2014, many developments have taken place. Two Wage revisions have taken placed which benefited the workers in a good way. Promotion Policy has been implemented. Many other settlements have also been made.

The BSNL is passing through a difficult period. Workers also have their responsibility in reviving it.

The AIC will discuss all these issues and take suitable decisions.

Forward to AIC at Kolkata!

BSNLCWF, Karnataka

While I was attending the District Conference of BSNLEU Bangalore Circle Conference, BSNLCCWF Circle Secretary, Com. Mahantesh, Com.Cheluvaraj, All India Vice-President and a few other leaders of the BSNLCCWF came and met me. We discussed about the issues and the organisation.
Karnataka unit, through continuous struggles have advanced much and the management and the contractors have been compelled to concede the rights of the workers and implement minimum wage, EPF, ESI etc. The victimised workers have been taken back. There are still some more issues to be settled and those are being attended to by the union. Com.C.K.Gundanna, Circle Secretary BSNLEU is the Circle President of BSNLCCWF and all help is being given for the settlement of the issues. My Hearty Congratulations to the Karnataka Comrades!
Com.Mahantesh remitted Rs. 15,000/- towards the CHQ quota of membership. CHQ is financial difficulty and this remittance has come in time of need.
We hope other units also will remit their quota without delay.

BSNL workers, Protest Action

BSNL workers have responded to the call of the Forum of BSNL Unions/Associations in a magnificent way. Reports have been received from many centres about the massive participation protesting against the retrograde and anti-BSNL recommendations of the m/s Deloittee committee. Tens of thousands of employees have participated all over India. The photos are published in the BSNLEU website and also website of other unions.
We are happy to note that the workers have understood the bitter attack that is going on against the BSNL and its employees. The recommendations of the committee should be thrown to the dustbin. Our hearty congratulations to the workers.

Next programme is the Lunch Hour demonstration in front of BSNL Corporate office on 21st August when the meeting of the Circle Heads is going to take place. We request all the unions to mobilise the maximum numbers in the demonstration.
