The posting of an RSS Leader as Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research is seen with anxiety by the fraternity of historians. There is fear that RSS ideology and mythology may be reflected in historical facts. A report from Times of India in this respect is re-produced below:

“NEW DELHI: Yellapragada Sudershan Rao, the new chairperson of Indian Council of Historical Research, is an active member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana and heads its Andhra Pradesh chapter. He is currently involved in a project that would fix the date of Mahabharata war.”

Com.P.K.Chandranandan,veteran leader of CPI(M) and one of the topmost leaders of the Punnapra vayalar Revolt passed away on 2nd July 2014 at Alappuzha at the age of 89. He was ailing for some time.
Com. PKC was underground for more than 12 yours to avoid arrest in the Punnapra vayalar and other struggles. He functioned as the District Secretary CPI(M), State Secretariat member etc. for a long time.
His simple life and close contact with the grass root workers were exemplary.

49% FDI, Defence

The Defence Ministry is proposing to increase the FDI in Defence from the present 26% to 49%.
There were no FDI in Defence earlier considering the risk and security of the country. In 2001, 26% of FDI was allowed despite strong opposition from the Unions etc. Now the NDA government is proposing to increase it to 49%. The proposal of the Ministry of Commerce is to increase it to 100%!
This proposal should be strongly opposed by all and defeated.

Contract Labour union leaders being victimised.

02 Wednesday Jul 2014

The victimisation of union leaders of BSNL Casual Contract Workers Federation is continuing. The Circle Secretaries of UP(W), UP(E), Karnataka etc. are still out out of work. Many District Secretaries are also retrenched. The latest is District President and Secretary of Ludhiana. After the union was formed and minimum wage was demanded, they were retrenched and are still out. However the workers could get some improvement in wages. We demand that the retrenched leaders of BSNLCCWF be taken back.
