All Profit making PSUs to be listed

Disinvestment/strategic sale, PSUs

The Central government has taken decision to list all the PSUs making profit for the last three years in the market for disinvestment / strategic sale. The expected amount to the government through strategic sale /disinvestment for the next financial year is a whooping Rs. 72,500 crore. There are 71 PSUs making profit continuously.

The Modi government is aggressively continuing its ‘selling the family silver’ to benefit the private corporates and big business. Whatever disinvestment or strategic sale so far done has shown how the people’s wealth is being handed over to the corporates for paltry sums.

Not only the trade unions, but a massive movement by the people is needed to stop this anti-national move of disposing of the nation’s wealth.

The recent collapse of two buildings in New Delhi’s Connaught Place has created doubt about the heritage Connaught place buildings. Now the Expert Committee with representatives from NDMC, IIT, CPWD, Sub Divisional Magistrate and others have stated that about 900 buildings in Connaught Place are in danger of collapse.

This is serious. Connaught is in the centre of th Capital and is visited by lakhs of people every day including foreign tourists. These are also heritage builds of Leuton’s Delhi. Immediate renovation is needed.

Cabinet Approved Merger of Affiliated Banks with SBI

Affiliated Banks, Merger, opposition, SBI

Despite strong opposition from the bank employees and their unions, the Cabinet has reiterated its decision today, 15th February 2017, to merge the following 5 affiliated banks with State Bank of India:

1. State Bank of Travancore
2. State bank of Mysore
3. State bank of Hyderabad
4. State Bank of Patiala
5. State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur.

The decision of the Cabinet is to be strongly opposed since it is against the interest of the customers, the banks and the employees. This is part of the neo-liberal policy of India and intended to help the private banks. This will result in closure of many branches of the affiliated banks and retrenchment of many employees through VRS or CRS.

Our full support to the struggle of the bank employees against this anti-worker anti-PSU decision.
