Dept. of Disinvestment, Group of Ministers, PSU Sale

Accepting the proposal of the ‘365 X 24 hours working’ Department of Disinvestment, the central government has constituted a Group of Ministers with Finance Minister, Minister for Road Transport and High Ways and Minister for Administrative Department to decide on the terms and conditions of the sale of the public sector units.

The Cabinet also approved empowered the Core Group of Secretaries to take policy decisions on the procedural issues of these strategic sales of PSUs.

It seems that the government wants to gift all the PSUs to the corporates before the 5 year term of the Modi Government is over.

Private participation mandatory for Metro Rail projects -Central Government.

It seems that the Modi Government will go to any extent for helping the corporates and the big private business. The latest is the government order making it mandatory for any metro rail project to have private participation.

The Central Cabinet has adopted a new policy for expanding and regulating metro rail projects, in which it is mandatory for private participation. The success of the metro projects in Delhi, Kolkata  and other metro cities and the collections being received has been in the eyes of the corporates and private business for some time. The central government, which is always for enriching the corporates has now made this new policy of mandatory private participation in metro projects. It is to be read in connection with the privatisation of the hundreds of railway stations and handing over the huge land assets to them for minting money.

The policy also stipulates for profitable projects. Of course, when private participation is there, it should be profitable, since the corporates should not be made to lose their funds for social responsibility.

Doordarshan, AIR condemned for not broadcasting Tripura CMs Independence Address

16 Wednesday Aug 2017

On August 15, the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

CONDEMN CENSORSHIP OF TRIPURA CM

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the refusal by the Doordarshan and All India Radio to broadcast the customary Independence Day address of Manik Sarkar, Chief Minister of Tripura.

The Doordarshan and All India Radio had recorded his speech for the occasion. However, they subsequently informed him that the speech cannot be carried as it is and asked him to “reshape” it.

This is a gross infringement on the right of a Chief Minister to address the people of his state on Independence Day. This act is reminiscent of the Emergency days and goes beyond as it seeks to gag the elected Chief Minister of a state. The Central Government is trampling upon the autonomy of Doordarshan/AIR and Prasar Bharati by such acts of censorship.

The Polit Bureau demands action against those responsible for prohibiting the broadcast. The Modi Government should stop treating the Prasar Bharati as a department of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The working class is determined to fight against the anti-worker policies of the government squarely. The Central Government employees went on strike on 16th March this year. Bank employees are going on strike on 22nd August followed by Postal employees on 23rd August 2017. BEML employees went on strike last month as also BSNL employees on  27th July 2017.

The central trade unions have already decided for massive Parliament March followed by a strike, the number of days of which will be decided later.

Yes, 2017 is the year of struggle by workers against the anti-worker, anti-people policies of the government. The working class will never surrender to the attacks by the government.  They will never allow the government to suppress their organisation and their demands. Unity and Struggle is their weapon.

UNITY FOR STRUGGLE, STRUGGLE FOR UNITY AND UNITY & STRUGGLE FOR VICTORY.

The denial of broadcasting of the speech of the Chief Minister Tripura,  Manik Sarkar, on Independence Day by the All India Radio is condemnable. It is an attack on the Federal structure of the country envisaged in the constitution. The central government which control the AIR should apologise to the the people.

Life is sometimes short…

Life is sometimes short for some people. But yet many of them leave us after great service to humanity. Jesus Christ, Bhagat Singh, Sankaracharya etc.  are a  few of  them.

If they can do this in a short time more could be done in double or triple of that time.

Effort and determination is the basis of their lives.

M.K.Damodaran Advocate

Advocate M.K.Damodaran passed away today at 2.15 PM at a Kochi Hospital. He was under treatment for heart disease for a few days. He was 70 years old.

M.K. Damodaran was always with the Left and the Progressive forces. While practising at Tellicherry, he was closely connected with the P and T Coordinating Committee. He dealt with the 1968 strike cases free of charge. He was my Advocate in the case filed against victimization transfer to Laksha Dweep.

He was a legal expert and was the Advocate General of Kerala for many years.

His death is an irreparable loss  to judiciary and to the Progressive forces. I have lost a dear friend.

My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends.

the 70th anniversary of Independence Day was observed all over the country with enthusiasm and with full participation. In addition to the programmes at the All India and State level organised by the government lakhs of various programmes were organised on that day by political, cultural, sports, trade union organisations, including libraries, peoples movements etc.

I am happy that I could participate in two such programmes at Kozhikode, one a residential association programme and another at a Library and addressed.

70th Anniversary of Independence

14 Monday Aug 2017

On this 15th of August, India has completed 70 years of its existence as Free India. It was after great and sustained struggles by the Indian people under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and many other veteran leaders that India got independence from the British colonialists on 15th August 1947. India became a sovereign secular democratic Republic on 26th January 1950, after the adoption of the Constitution of India, the main architect of which was Dr. B.R.Ambedkar. The first Prime Minister of Independent India was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who led to the country with the slogan of ‘socialist pattern of society’.

Congress ruled the country for many years and now it is the BJP government. But even after 70 years, poverty was not eradicated. About 30 % of the people are still below the poverty line as could be seen from the very many statistics of the government itself. The rich has become richer and the poor, the poorer. Difference in income is increasing every day creating wide disparity. Illiteracy continues and young children are working to eke out a livelihood, instead of attending the schools.

While celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Independence day, let us pledge to take all out efforts to make the country progress in to a secular, democratic republic as envisaged by the great freedom fighters!

Warm Greetings to all friends, comrades and best wishers on the eve of the 71st Independence Day!

Take stringent action to punish the guilty – CPI(M)

14 Monday Aug 2017

Posted by VAN NAMBOODIRI in General

New Delhi, August 13: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the gross negligence of the UP State Government and authorities of public health that has led to the death of 63 children so far due to the shortage of oxygen supply. This is impermissible.

The arguments doled out by the UP state government and the Chief Minister attributing these deaths as not due to the shortage of oxygen but bad sanitation and civic conditions is unacceptable. Warnings of oxygen shortage have been given for some years now and the non-payment of dues to the oxygen suppliers appears to be the main cause.

Blaming sanitary conditions for these deaths speaks volumes for the much tomtomed swach Bharat campaign of the Prime Minister and the BJP. Further, the UP CM has himself represented Gorakhpur constituency for the last twenty years in the Lok Sabha. His contribution for the neglect of hygienic conditions cannot be overlooked.

The CPI(M) Polit Bureau demands a high level judicial enquiry be instituted to establish the culpability, beginning with the Chief Minister and the state government, followed by stringent punishment of the guilty.
