BSNL, loss of connections

I am reproducing below a report in the Economic Times which states that BSNL lost 2 Crore connections last two years. This is a serious situation which has to be changed for the better. The Forum and the Unions should continue maximum efforts.

“State-run BSNL lost about 2 crore subscribers in the last financial year as the telco could not match aggressive marketing by private operators besides persisting issues related to coverage and quality of its services.
According to an official in the Department of Telecom, BSNL lost about 1.78 crore wireless and over 20 lakh wireline subscribers between March 2014 and March 2015.
Stating the reasons responsible for the loss of wireless subscribers, the official said BSNL was not able to match the aggressive marketing of services by private telecom operators.
Also, the official added that due to the PSU’s inability to invest in upgradation of its network during the period 2008-2012, there were issues related to mobile network coverage, capacity and quality of service.
“The reasons for decline in wireline subscriber base include the general decline in demand for fixed lines telephone on account of shift to mobile services,” he said.
At the end of May 2015, the wireless subscriber base of BSNL stood at 7.76 crore with a market share of 7.96 per cent.
The wireline base stood at 1.60 crore with a market share of 61.07 per cent.
The company, however, is taking various steps to increase its subscriber base and revenue through investments in network and improve quality of service.
As a part of its phase 7 project, the company will be investing Rs 4,804.77 crore in network augmentation which will result in addition of 14,421 2G sites and 10,605 3G sites across the country.
Apart from that, BSNL has taken a number of initiatives to attract customers which include unlimited free night calls from landline, free incoming calls on roaming and a host of different special plans.”

Rs.9,000 for full-time skilled domestic workers – far below the demand

Domestic workers, minimum w

As per report, it is stated that the central government is considering the proposal of the labour department for a minimum wage of Rs. 9,000 for a skilled domestic worker.

This is completely unsatisfactory. The Central trade unions have demanded for Rs. 15,000 for the unskilled, contract workers. The entire workers are going on a one day strike on 2nd September 2015, on demands, including the above.

The government should decide for a minimum wage of rs.15,000 and not below that.

Bank Unions protest posting of private CEOs

Private MDs/CEOs, PSU Banks

The Bank Unions have strongly protested against the posting of the CEOs of Public Sector Banks from the private sector. The government has now posted the MDs/CEOs  of Canara Bank and Bank of Baroda by private sector persons.

The Bank Unions say that there are sufficient efficient, qualified  and eligible persons in the PSBs and there is no need of entry from the public sector.

This is fully correct. The BJP government is making these appointments to torpedo the public sector banks.

Independence Day 2015

Revolutionary Greetings and Best Wishes to all comrades, friends, best-wishers on the eve of the 69th Independence Day, 15th August 2015!

Despite 68 years are over after India got Independence from the British rulers, the conditions of more than half of the population are still much to be improved. The rich have become richer and the poor the poorer. A large number of the population is still illiterate. Corruption has become a part of the system, eroding the values we hold high. Communal tensions are created by vested interests to suit their purpose and divide the society.

A change is required to improve the conditions of the vast masses of the country. The working class has got more responsibility in this respect. Let us contribute our mite towards the same.

The struggle by the Kerala BSNL comrades are continuing under the leadership of CCLU, BSNLEU and SNEA. The non-cooperation started on 12th August is continuing with full participation of the workers and employees.  The non-implementation of the agreement with regard to the interim relief of Rs. 100/ per day for the contract workers by the management has created the new situation and renewed struggle.

Com. V.A.N.Namboodiri, Patron BSNLEU and President, BSNLCCWF  spoke to Shri Anupam Shrivastava, CMD BSNL from UK and impressed upon him the urgency to approve the agreement on the interim additional wages and create an amicable situation. He informed that even now the wages of contract labour are far below the ordinary wages of workers in Kerala which are about Rs. 650/- per day. Though the demand was for an additional Rs. 200/, the interim relief agreed was Rs. 100/ only.CMD stated that he has already directed Shri N.K.Gupta, Director to go to Thiruvananthapuram next week and discuss with all concerned and settle the issues. He also assured that the issue will be settled early.

According to press reports, BSNL, has decided to introduce an Unlimited Free Night (from 9 PM to 7 AM) On-net Calling Facility to CDMA/WLL postpaid customers across India starting from the 1st of September 2015.

As per the information, CDMA/WLL customers will be able to enjoy unlimited free night calls (Local & STD) to all landline and mobile networks from BSNL.

This is a good decision which will further increase the connection of BSNL or at least will reduce the surrender of BSNL connections.
