Coal Denationalisation

The situation in coal sector is becoming tense with the decision of the government to reallocate mines to the private companies, which allocation was cancelled by the Supreme Court, and also to denationalise the sector itself.Coal is very important and crucial for the infrastructure and economy of the country and that is why the same was nationalised earlier. Denationalising the sector will be harmful, but the government is moving fast in tat direction.

All the Central trade unions in the Coal India Limited have strongly opposed denationalisation and is moving towards a strike, if the decision is not scrapped. The strike may take place in January 2015, as per indication from the union side. The struggle will be to save Coal Sector and CIL as also to save the economy of the nation.

We fully support the struggle of the CIL Unions to save the Public Sector CIL !

Parliament session

The Winter Session of the Parliament will start on 24th November and will end on 23rd December 2014. Many bills are expected to be placed in this session.

BJP, after its win in the Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections may become more aggressive in implementing the anti-worker neo-liberal policies and handing over the PSUs to the corporates and MNCs.

Punnapra-Vayalar Martyrs

October 27th is the 68th Anniversary of the valiant armed struggle of 1946 organised by the people of Vayalar ( Alapuzha in Kerala) against the autocratic rule of the Travancore Diwan who wanted the US model to be implemented in the then state of Travancore. The people under the leadership of the Communist Party of India faced the armed police of the State with lathis and spears. The result could not be other wise. Thousands of peasants and volunteers were killed in the firing by the armed police. A few days earlier at Punnapra also similar firing took place which took many lives. The people of Kerala remember these Martyrs who fought against autocracy of the Travancore rulers, every year at Punnapra and vayalar.
Today, 27th October, was the culmination of the observation of Punnapra – Vayalar Martyrs Day. Rallies and homage at the Martyrs Memorials were organised with participation of thousands of people. CPI(M) and CPI leaders gave the lead.

Our Red Salute to the Martyrs of Punnapra vayalar armed struggle !

Congratulations to Dilma Rousseff on her Glorious Victory !

Great Victory ! Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil has been re-elected as President for a second term. In the second round of elections, she got around 52%, and defeated Aecio Neves, who is supported by the imperialists.

Dilma Rousseff as President has been continuing the socialist programes for the welfare of the people which was started by earlier President Lula da Silva, who was President for two terms from 2003. Dilma Rousseff was a former guerrilla leader who fought against the military regime and was jailed and brutally assaulted.

Hearty Congratulations !

Protest Against TRAI Recommendations of Spectrum Surrender by TRAI

BSNL, Spectrum, TRAI

TRAI has recommended to DOT to get the 1.2 MHz spectrum in the 900 MHZ band surrendered by the BSNL for auction to private telecom operators. This will leave BSNL without sufficient premium 900 MHZ band of spectrum for its own operations and services.

We have earlier stated that the present TRAI is openly acting as an agent of the private companies. This recommendation once again confirms our assumption. We strongly protest against this fresh attack on BSNL.

The Forum is meeting on 28th to discuss this as also the implementation of Deloittee recommendations in Maharashtra with regard to reconstitution of SSAs.

Coal India Unions on Struggle Path

agitation, Coal Denationalisation

The Steering Committee of the Central Trade Unions in the Coal India Limited is meeting at Ranchi on 31st October 2014 to plan their next agitational programmes against the proposal of the government to denationalise the Coal Sector. CIL is one of the biggest PSUs in the country with about 5 lakhs of workers. The private corporates have been pressurising the government to denationalise the sector for a long time. In the meanwhile the 1.86 lakh crore coal scam also was exposed.

The BJP government is moving fast for the denationalisation, which will be completely against the interests of the workers and the country as a whole.

The move of the CTUs is correct. We fully support and express solidarity for the struggle of the coal workers and their unions.

Government ignores health of PSU Banks, No CMDs, NPA increases

NPA, PSU Banks

It is well known that the government is not interested in improving the PSUs, Banks included. It will advise for the improvement of services, but at the same time will do every thing to demolish these PSUs. BSNL, MTNL cases are well known to all.

It is the same with the PSU Banks. There are 20 PSU Banks, in addition to those affiliated with SBI. Out of these six banks are working without any CMD. These are Bank of Baroda, Canara bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Syndicate Bank and Bank of India.

The NPA (Non-Performing Assets), meaning bad loan, are increasing in all the PSU Banks. There is no strong action to get back the amounts from the corporates, big business etc. who have taken the loan and are not repaying. The top management is fully responsible for giving loans with out proper security etc.

The Unions in the PSU Banks are exposing and protesting against these NPAs, but neither the Bank management nor the government is taking any serious remedial measures.

Black Money in Swiss banks being converted to Gold and smuggled ?

black money, Gold-smuggling, Swiss banks

Reports have come in the media that the statement of the Government that names of holders of black money accounts in Swiss and other foreign banks will be made public after filing charge sheets seems to have created some panic to the involved account holders. The Swiss Banks are also worried, since any such exposure would harm them.

As per reports, the Swiss Banks are advising their clients to close such accounts or to divert the money from the banks. Another method is by purchasing gold and smuggling to India. It seems that the second option is already being implemented. The yellow metal worth more than Rs. 70,000 crore has already left for India, according to Swiss authorities. The catching of gold biscuits in kilos in many airports in India is an indication of the same.

Whether the Government is watching and taking necessary action to curb the smuggling as also the unaccounted money account holders? Or whether the government will succumb to the high decibel pressures of the corrupt politicians (both Congress and BJP) and the big business houses? Let us wait and see.
