Poverty Line with Rs. 32 in rural and Rs. 47 in towns

07 Monday Jul 2014

The panel headed by former RBI Governor C.Rangarajan is on the same path as the earlier committees on defining poverty. The committee has stated that those spending below Rs. 32 in rural and Rs. 47 in towns will be treated as poor. This is atrocious, to say the least. The line has got to be upgraded much more.

Even according to this standard there are 29.5 % of the population viz. about 40 crores people who are below the poverty line. The situation is worse than many African Countries.

The report is going to raise a lot of questions on the government in the country.

Budget Session

The Budget Session of the Parliament is starting today, 7th July 2014. It is certain that the issue of continuous price hike and other issues will be raised by the Opposition parties. Congress has stated that it will behave in the Parliament as the BJP has done when they were in opposition. Does it mean that there will be continued walk-outs and disturbance?
The Left Parties are expected to raise the proposed changes in the labour laws by Rajasthan Government which are against the workers and prompted by the employers.

Huge Disinvestment proposal in Budget ?

Budget, Disinvestment, PSUs

It is reported by Times of India that NDA government will seek to raise up to a record $11.7 billion in asset sales in its maiden Budget this week.
The privatization target could reach 700 billion rupees, almost equal to all proceeds over the last four years, in the new Budget going to be presented in the Parliament this week.

If this is true, then many PSUs will be disinvested and some of them may have strategical partners also, which means, gradually the PSUs will be handed over to private companies as in the case of VSNL, Centaur Hotels, BALCO etc., which was done during the last NDA government.

The government can expect mighty struggles from the workers and their unions.

29.5% of people poor in India – Rengarajan Commission

29.5% poor, Rengarajan report

According to the Report of the PMEAC chaired by C.Rangarajan, 29.5 % of the population in India are poor. This means almost 1/3 of the population. This is calculated on the basis that persons spending below Rs. 47/- are treated as poor.
Even 6 decades after Independence, this is the sad situation. Rich becomes richer and poor becomes poorer. Whether it is UPA or NDA, the policy is tilted towards the rich and powerful. The poor sections are ignored. A revolutionary change is required.

Comrade Jyoti Basu

220px-Jyoti_Basu_-_Calcutta_1996-12-21_089_CroppedThe Birth Centenary Celebration of Comrade Jyoti Basu, veteran trade union, CPI(M) leader and former Chief Minister of W.Bengal for a record period of 23 years, will end on 8th July 2014. Com. Basu was born on 8th July 1914.

The CPI(M) had called upon to organise the Birth Centenary Year from 8th July 2013 to 8th July 2014 by organising meetings, seminars, publication of books, discussions, social activities like blood donation camps etc. All these programmes were organised in an effective way in many places.

Com. Jyoti Basu was a towering personality and one of the tallest trade union leader in the country. Born in AN affluent aristocratic family of Bengal and after completing his barrister course in England, he was expected by the family to have a successful career. But he selected serving the people after coming to India. His close contact with the Communists in Britain changed his entire life. He became a member of the Communist Party and devoted his life to the people.

He had to face severe challenges is his life. The brutal attack of the semi-fascist Congress rule of 1970s in W.Bengal was not easy to surmount. But under Jyoti Basu’s leadership, the party survived the period and in 1977, came to power with good majority. The land-reforms and other progressive acts of the Left Front Government of W.Bengal under his Chief Ministership have been hailed by all. He stood strongly for the trade union rights of the workers. Com. Jyoti Basu was the Vice-President of CITU since its inception in 1970 till his death. He was a Polit Bureau Member of the CPI(M) since its formation in 1964. His strong secular stand created confidence in the minority in the state.

RED SALUTE TO COMRADE JYOTI BASU ON HIS 100TH BIRTH DAY ANNIVERSARY !

Strict Instructions for Foreign Tour by Officers

06 Sunday Jul 2014

The Finance Ministry has issued strict instructions with regard to foreign tour by top officers of the government. Those proposing to go on foreign tour will have to explain a host of things including benefits of the trip and why the objectives can not be achieved by the Indian Missions abroad, a junior officer or through video conferencing.

These were already there, but nobody bothered. Even those officers who were to retire within a few weeks went on costly foreign tours, which will have no benefits to the government.

The question is, whether the government is serious or simply issuing one more order. The Government should strict action for unnecessary and unfruitful tours.

Cash for seat, corruption, Kumaraswamy

One other cash-for-seats scam has been revealed. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Shri HD Kumaraswamy JD(U) is shown in a video agreeing for Rs. 20 crore to give a seat in the Upper House to an applicant.
The interesting factor is that the former Chief Minister is not denying the video, but is justifying that by telling that Congress, BJP, every body is doing the same.
The Indian politicians have gone down the drain to the lowest stage.

FDI, opposed, Railways

The proposal of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for 100% FDI has been opposed by Home ministry due to security reasons. It is of the opinion that there should not be FDI in highly sensitive parts of the railways. The sensitive parts includes passengers, luggages etc. are also.

Revision of Pension of Pre-2006 Pensioners

05 Saturday Jul 2014

REVISION OF PRE-2006 PENSION WITH EFFECT FROM 01.01.2006 AS PER CAT ORDER DATED 01.11.2011 FOR ALL PRE-2006 PENSIONERS AND NOT LIMITED ONLY TO PETITIONERS

Bharat Pensioners Samaj has pointed out Government’s mis-interpretation of Hon’ble Princpal CAT’s Order for revising Pre-2006 Pension with effect from 01-01-2006, to the effect that the order would be applicable only to the petitioners who have filed the case before CAT and not to all Pre-2006 Pensioners. However, the contention of Bharat Pensioners Samaj in this regard is that Hon’ble CAT’s Order was confirmed by Hon’ble High Court and reached finality after Hon’ble Supreme Court dismissed Government’s SLP, Review Petition and as well as Curative Petition. Hence the same is not an order In personam. (Courtesy: BCPC)
