The Syndicate Bank Officers’ Association (SBOA) has called for stringent measures for defaulters from the government like attaching personal properties and declaring wilful defaulters as criminals to check banks’ non-performing assets. “Nearly 50 per cent of the NPAs — at around ₹1,00,000 crore — are from 30 to 40 big corporate houses, and they are patronised by the Government mainly by their inaction,” D S Punja, General Secretary, SBOA, said. Casual/Contract workers issues – Organise Demonstrations on 26th February at SSA level

26 Feb, BSNLCCWF, Demonstration

The Central Executive Committee of BSNL Casual and Contract Workers Federation held at Bhubaneswar recently has decided to organise Demonstrations at SSA levels on 26th February 2014 on the long pending issues of the workers like regularisation, minimum wage, EPF, ESI  etc. It has also decided to observe 2014 as the year of the casual and contract workers.

The CEC meeting of BSNLEU held at Rajkot on 7-9 February has fully supported the decision and has called upon all its SSA units to participate in the demonstration  in large numbers. It has also been decided that in places where the BSNLCCWF is not formed, BSNLEU itself should organise the demonstration.

The demands of the casual and contract workers are fully justified. Whatever the government and BSNL C.O. have ordered are not paid to them. Inhuman exploitation is taking place. This has to be put an end to.

We call upon all the SSA units of the BSNLCCWF and BSNLEU to organise demonstrations with massive participation to give a clear warning to the management that unless the issues are settled, there will be sustained agitation by the workers.

Fight for justice to the exploited casual contract workers!

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Saturday announced reserve prices for CDMA (800 MHz band) spectrum, putting minimum cost of pan-India per MHz of radio waves at Rs.2,685 crore, almost 50 per cent jump for the last auction’s base price. Of 22 telecom circles, the top five service areas in terms of their reserve price are – Delhi Rs.450 crore per MHz, Mumbai Rs.352 crore, Maharashtra Rs.282 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs.247 crore and Gujarat Rs.212 crore.

The regulator has also recommended that the entire CDMA spectrum held by the telecom PSU MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai be put up for auction as it is underutilised, besides suggesting that spectrum held by BSNL should be taken back and put for auction, except for one block of frequency in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and North-East service area. International Women’s Day on 8th March – INSPIRING CHANGE

Inspiring Change, International Womens Day

International Women’s Day is observed on 8th March all over the world. The day was started being observed since 1911, one hundred and four years back.

Women are being discriminated in all spheres, whether at home, workspot, in wages, social status and what not. In addition they are sexually assaulted, molested and harassed. In the capitalist system, women  is treated as a commodity. They do not have adequate representation in Parliament, legislatures and even at local level. The trade unions are also having only very few women leaders at decision making bodies. There is complete gender discrimination.

It is for the working class to take more interest in changing this unhappy situation. BSNL Employees Union is committed for gender equality, but not much has been done. In the BSNL, where about 25% of the workers are women, there is a very good scope to bring women leaders at all levels of the organisation. Let the International Women’s Day be observed with wide publicity and with firm decisions to ensure that women workers get justice – in the union activities also.

The Theme for the IWD for this year is “Inspiring Change”. Let us start the change for the better! The Central Executive Committee of BSNLEU has called upon the Circle/SSAs/Branches to observe the day in a befitting manner. Implement it effectively.
