My recent tour to Bihar, Jharkhand & Odisha and the interaction with workers have once again revealed the brutal exploitation of the casual/contract workers in BSNL.
The contract workers are being paid much less than the minimum wage fixed by the central government. PF contribution is not deducted, and iif deducted it is not remitted to PF Sccount with the contribution from contractor / Principal employer ie. BSNL Management. It is the same case with Insurance contribution. Casual workers who are on the job for 20 or more years are converted to deny them the monthly pay scale.Lakhs of rupees are swindled through ghost workers. There is no end to such exploitation of these poor workers.
This brutal exploitation is a black dot
on the face of the BSNL and its management. If the issues remain as it is, the management will have to face the wrath ogf the workers and sustained agittions.

It is a shame that BSNL does not pay its core workers up to the standards. The company will run if the GM is absent for a week but face several customer dissatisfaction and losses in the form of disconnections if the broadband technician takes a leave for the same week.Still, the technician is paid Rs. 4300, which many will agree isnt even enough for a minimum living standard. It is due to inhumane practices like these , BSNL, indias largest fixed telephony provider is facing stiff competition and suffering major losses against private players and it is giving the government as well as the people a bad name.

Yes, the exploitation of casual/contract labour
in BSNL is continuing. Uniting the workers
And resorting to agitations is the only way to end this exploitattion.
