At last the government has started thinking about women representation in the Board of Directors of companies. In the Company Bill, being prepared by the Government and which is in the final stage, it is proposed at least to have one woman Director compulsorily. This is resisted by the private companies stating that the Directors are appointed on the basis of talent and not on gender basis. But the government seems to be firm on the inclusion of woman Director. We welcome this move in the right direction.
The government should also direct the PSUs to have the same criteria. BSNL also should have one woman Director.

Respected Sir
I do not understand why do we say women should be given preference over men or women should be a part of any board. It should not be gender based and it should only be a talent based decision. Let there be only women in the board if they deserve it. Why differentiate women and men when actually the talent is the vital factor for being a part of the board.
Let us think how many women employees are part of a decision making body of any union and question ourselves why did not we consider this when we support women participation in the decision making process. We should also not be an exception to this participation at all.
Ofcourse, I am not being sarcastic and I mean no offense, I swear. What I mean to say is that we should not differentiate between men and women when the talent/ability is the vital factor for a decision making body. Please educate me if I am wrong.
Regards and Best Wishes
Dear Sir,
The situation present is that equal opportunity is not given to the women in our society, which is well known to every body. What Manu scripted thousands of years ago is even now to a certain extend is implemented ‘ women do not be given freedom’. Always she should be under the control of some male, whether father, husband or son. She don’t have the freedom even to go alone. Women are exploited both in the house as well as outside. That is why it is stated that they should be given the opportunity to be equal with men. Why the constitution provides for reservation to SC/ST/OBC etc? Why differently abled persons are given preference? It is the responsiblity of the society to give equal opportunity to the women. For that, reservation is required till the aim is attained.
“Let us think how many women employees are part of a decision making body of any union and question ourselves why did not we consider this when we support women participation in the decision making process. We should also not be an exception to this participation at all.”
Dear Sir
You have not answered this question. Let us first implement it. Correct me if I am wrong..
@Lata Jee
I am not against the decision… I question, when we approve the concept, why do we not implement it in our unions itself first.

Dear Comrades,
There are women comrades in almost all committess as far as the unions are concerned. Since inception, BSNL Employees Union is having women comrades in its office-bearers at the CHQ level. Now also. Two women office-bearers are at present amongst CHQ office-bearers in BSNLEU.In circles also it is the same. How you came to the conclusion that women members are not there is the committees? We are trying to bring more women comrades to the leadership level. In some circles, separate Mahila Committees are also formed. In the Central Trade Unions like INTUC, AITUC, CITU, BMS etc. also there are women office-bearers. In some Districts, women comrades are the District Secretaries. In our Casual and Contract Workers Union, one Circle Secretary is a woman comrade. Of course, we want to bring more women comrades to the leadership.
Thank you Comrade for your views on govt. decision to have one woman in Board.
