The government and the BSNL management is continuously repeating that the large number of workers are responsible for the loss to the company. This is an absurd argument as can be seen from below.
When BSNL was formed, there were about 3.5 lakh workers. With these 3.5 lakh workers the company was making profit of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 crore with a total revenue of Rs.40,000 crore.
Now the total number of staff are only about 3 lakhs and there is loss to the company. As per govt./management argument there should have been more revenue and profit since the number of workers have been reduced. In fact the revenue and profit has been reduced when there is less staff.
This clearly shows that it is not the number of staff that is the reason for the loss. It actually is the wrong policy of the government and mismanagement only.
VRS – are the number of workers reason for loss? NO!

I subscribe to the views of Mr Sharma. There is no point in thinking about the past or whatever has happened till yesterday. All out efforts should be made to face the reality that exists in BSNL today because it is what is going to determine our future.
We should first try to come together and see what is best for us in the given conditions presently. A consensus is to be arrived at with the help of all the unions and then efforts to be put in that direction to ensure that we achieve our common goal.
I suggest the think tanks of all the unions to come forward on a common platform, call it JAC or anything else, and arrive at a consensus. This will only be fruitful and we should not deviate ourselves from this view at this point of time as it is very crucial and any mishap at this point will only lead to loose and loose situation.
I request your goodself to consider this and work for arriving at a consensus with the help of all other unions and leave no stone unturned to achive a common platform to express our concerns. With best wishes
The move for united actions have already started. I hope that those who are keeping away from JAC will come for joint action.
wht we have so much problem in simple arithmatic? Other companies are spending only 5-6 % on salary …. its not the number but the amount we spend. Most of the man power is useless. Look at SBI after implementation of project Parivartan they have improved a lot. Most of our staff is misfit and even new recruits are being wasted. Most of the TTA /JTO are deployed in useless duites such as sleeping in exchanges at night and doing file work in circle office. We need to send them in filed .
It is not through reduction of staff or reduction of expenditure that a company grows. The main point is to increase the revenue.Even when there were 3.5 lakh people it was not only because the expenditure was less, but it was because the revenue was more that we got profit. I completely disagree with your opinion that the workers are useles. It is only through the work done by the workers that the company is able top provide service. Many people are swayed by the media propaganda against the workers. Why the revenue could not be increased. The main reason is that the government and the Management utterly failed or obstructed procurement of mobile lines. If those lines were procured, the present position would not have come. To cover their failure, the managment is trying to put the blame on the workers. How to increase the revenue should the main target.
